McKinney traded to Dolphins for Shaq Lawson

On the matter. Pressures are important but with Shaq it seems like they're not disrupting the play nor getting a sack. This Shack can't sack!
Oh, I agree.
Lawson is no Watt.
But Lovie Smith should be able to run the back end better than what we had last year.
That should help the front 4 (the whole rotation) and not any one guy in particular.

Yes Lawson over BM but not over a cap savings if McKinney just cut. This is a Bill O'Brien type trade unless it is foreplay for a later deal. Even then, I just don't get it. Anyone think that a Howard trade for someone on our roster could be next? That would benefit both teams while not making Howard part of a DW trade in that Dolphins could give up more picks.

Miami could use the $9 million savings for Howard to take a high dollar player from Houston.

Edit: I believe if traded Cobb's dead is $4 with savings of just over $6m. His cap for Miami would be the $10 so they would get a WR for less than what paying Howard who wants to leave. Hmmm
and with the cap savings the Texans would have to go spend it on a... well someone hopefully as productive as Lawson.

If McKinney was likely to be cut (meaning we recoup nothing for him), but instead we trade him for a player who has utility for the Texans in new DC Lovie Smiths defense, does that not sound like a good deal for the Texans ?
BTW Lawson is also two years younger than McKinney.
I mostly don't get this move because I don't think Lawson is all that good. So I don't get paying 8mil for a pass-rusher that's not all that great at rushing the passer. We are spending 20mil on two former 1st round DEs, that are supposed to be good at rushing the passer, but in reality... aren't. At least McKinney was good at his job.

so who are we missing on? What’s your list of players we should have signed and at what price?
What I had hoped Caserio would do is not spend $$$ on vet contracts for the backend of the roster. I'm fine with the Collins signing, because he will be part of the d-line rotation. He's played well. But the majority of these guys are not seeing the field other than special teams or injuries. Let rookies and UDFAs take those spots. Caserio is nickel and diming the cap to death.

Teams are about to release vets that can start. Where's all the savings from cutting Watt? $8 million to a part time DE. Another $8 million for 30 year old RBs. $7 million for a 33 year old OT that hasn't played in 2 years. What happens to the cap if Watson winds up traded? That's over $5 million to hit he cap. And where's the rookie pool $$$ coming from if they gain multiple 1sts and 2nds?

This is exactly the opposite of how I would envision Caserio re-building. This looks exactly how O'Brien went about signing FAs.

And I haven't seen anything Caserio has done so far that will improve the Texans from going 0-16 to a 2-14 team in 2021.

Exactly.

I don’t think Caserio has caught on to the “rebuild” concept as we see it. Joker acting like he’s, re-tooling, or re-loading.

This plays right into the tank and most of these deals are short term deals. BTW, DJ isn't getting paid 8 mil unless he becomes a pro bowler again and we know that ain't happening. Most all of this $$$$ your griping about will be coming off of the books next offseason. If they trade DW4, I'm pretty sure they will find a way to get under the cap.

I see this yr as a throw away and clean up the books type yr. Something that's been needed for a long time. I cant wait to here your commentary when DW4's traded and the team sucks next yr. Like they wouldn't have sucked with DW4.

Do you guys remember we were 10- 6 the year before and 11-5 the year before that. So of course he’s not looking at this as a rebuild. It’s you gentlemen that wants them to rebuild. If our defense was middle of the pack last season, this team wouldn’t have lost those close games. Or if we had a running game, this team could’ve been much better. So a quick retool might do the trick. Ask the Eagles how did that retooling do for them ( Super Bowl trophy was the reward. Not saying we will win the Super Bowl lol . Make sure I put that disclaimer on here.

Just saying let’s see how it all pans out before dooming it a failure.

how many of those released vets will come here to play on a one year contract? If so they won’t come cheap. NC isn’t giving up draft choices in these trades. Sure he switched some picks in the same rounds in one trade. Believe he got a sixth for a seventh in the BM trade. My guess is that you still may get your wish for rookies and UDFA’s to fill many of the backend spots. Both NC and DC emphasize competition in TC. My guess some of these signings are here for that role only Or to upgrade the roster if your rookies and UDFA’s don’t cut it. But IMO NC is giving every indication that he’s positioning this team to build through the draft Going forward. Seems to me to be the best and quickest way to clean up the cap rather than burdening the roster with overpriced cut vets on multiple year contracts.

This is very different from how BOB operated. The deals that have been cut are basically 1 yr prove it deals. The cap should be freed up next offseason when hopefully Mercilus/Cunningham will be shown the door.

BOB signed Martin/Cunningham/Mercilus to long term overpriced deals. None of the deals signed today were anything like that and if some weren't so blinded by either hate or not realizing there's going to be a massive rebuild in the next 24 months then maybe they could see what's going on. Taking out the trash.

Either most likely the rebuild will start this yr with the DW4 trade and continuing on through next yrs FA/draft period. Difference is with all of these 1 yr deals and taking Mercilus/Cunningham off of the books and eating DW4's cap hit this yr will leave Caserio in a position to be a major player in next yrs FA market. (If Cal lets him play in the market.) Also Caserio should have high picks from the Texans sucking and the DW4 trade to play the game with.

Some here are just griping because they dont want to pay the price to rebuild the franchise, or they just hate all things Patriots? I wonder which it is for Lucky?

I like the direction we’ve gone, got an experienced roster with a vet starting every position. None of these signings can take it easy this year because they are hitting FA again in 12 months and could make millions or have their careers finished depending on how they play.

Meanwhile, we currently have a franchise QB who can overcome some deficiencies. If come September we no longer have him, we’ll have a raft of high picks to come in and hopefully improve on what we’ve signed.

So yeah, we’re starting from a really poor position, but we have low level starters who may overperform, who fit our new scheme. We can pick BPA if we do get draft picks. I’m not expecting miracles but am happy with our business in setting us up for 2022 and beyond.

A team can get sacks , which is important, but if you don't get consistent pressure, it doesn't matter. The pressure and the knockdowns are what disturbs qbs. Alot of qbs will give up a sack, but when they're under duress, they make more mistakes

He’s signing a bunch of roster filler. Most on 1 year deals so that we’ll be doing this again next year. That’s far from retooling or reloading.
He's looking for diamonds in the rough like the dude they got from the Redskins. If he hits on a couple of starters out of these guys and hits on a couple of starters in the draft I will be happy. I would guess the LB (Pierre) and Roberts are going to be the FA s starters past next yr.

You're right though most of these guys are filler. But they're on 1 yr deals and after they trade DW4 and take the cap hit this yr along with cutting Mercilus/Cunningham, then next yr after cutting most of these guys Caserio should be flush with cap space and have a bounty of draft picks to work with from the DW4 trade. It's a good strategy but there will be pain this yr to set themselves up for the future. Main thing is Caserio has to hit on the new QB for this to all work. Do you have faith that he will hit on the new QB? You must not and this is where all of the negativity is coming from.

Still... he's spending more on this "filler" than I thought we would.
I think majority of these guys won't make the team. What Caserio is doing IMO, is building competition and hopes he hits on a few of them.
