Mayock's pre combine rankings

He has a couple names I haven't seen discussed

Jordan Howard-RB, Indiana
Willie Beavers-OT, Western Michigan

Anyone have any info on these guys?

I guess Mayock becomes the 1st "talking head" to rank Wentz as the number 1 QB. It was just a matter of time really the way he's been shooting up the boards. He's going to have to really screw up the Combine and his Pro-Day to fall to the Texans now! :shades:

Dak Prescott at #5 ahead of Hackenberg is interesting too. They said he interviewed really well at the Senior Bowl and he also had a pretty good game. Wonder what BOB thinks of him?

Howard is a big guy with good speed who hits the holes faster than his 40 time would indicate. Looking at his highlights and watching 1 Indiana game this yr it looks like Howard also has the most important thing for a RB. (Vision)

Beavers has ability, but the NFL will be a big step up in competition. I've only seen his highlights and he looks like a man amongst boys. I'm very interested in how he tests both physicallly/interviews at the combine. Right now I see him as a developmental OT.

Beavers is my 4th rounder and is currently ranked # 98 by draftec and #186 by CBSsports.com.
He is 6'4 1/2 and weighed in 324 with 33 1/2" arms and hands 9 1/2. Red shirt as freshman and started all games (40 ish) at left tackle. When I watch him I said "dang this guy doesn't go backward unless he wants to." He did play on injured ankle this past season & perfect for ZBS + excellent motor.

info links I hope you enjoy: from pre 2015 season

*He also did well against S. Calhoun

Also to be noted Howard had a bigger game i think then Zeik against Michigan's highly touted run defense. Not saying he's better, but it was one hell of a performance, especially when the other team knows you are the only player they really have to worry about

Howard is a really good player. He's going very under the radar right now. Big thing with him is he is just a two-down player right now which, for the moment, puts a cap on him being a feature guy like Elliott.

I would absolutely take Prescott over Hackenberg. A ton more upside.

I would agree with this. My opinion of Dak as a run 1st Tim Tebow type of QB has been changing over the last few months to where I see him now as more of a bigger Russell Wilson type. If he continues to interview well at the Combine and does well in the skills tests he could move up to an early 2nd round/late 1st round selection and may even pass Cook up. At this point in time I would have no problem if the Texans drafted him. The question then becomes, how long does he have to sit and who do they bring in to bridge the gap? Who would you want to bridge the gap? Savage, Weeden, Hoyer, Henne, Cassel, Bradford, etc.....

And if the scores are close?

Yes BUT i think their familiarity with a system resembling ours might also be a determining factor. I have no clue what kind of offense dak was in. Does it translate to what OB does?

Dak strikes me as a poor mans Cam Newton. Great size, can run, strong arm with a bit of a hitch in his throwing motion. Where he differs is the baggage Cam brings. Dak is a hard worker and great leader by all accounts and a guy you'd like to be the face of your franchise assuming he can produce on the field. I think he'll creep into the 3rd round by draft time.

I wouldn't put much stock in Wonderlic scores. Blaine Gabbert got a 42 but he can't handle pressure. Kaepernick got a 37 but he can't read a defense. Manziel got a 32 and he's a moron. Peyton got a 28 and he's the most cerebral QB ever. Marino got a 15.

Relying on test scores is a total crap shoot.

I understand this, but all the QBs under OB minus 1 had a fairly high score, so I wanna guess and say it plays a big role with OBs evaluations

The Wonderlic only becomes a concern for me when it is noticeably low. Example is Vince Young's 6 which IMHO is a direct relation to his not being in the NFL today. When I see a 12 or below it's cause for concern and any thing in that neighborhood needs additional homework as to why.
