Matt Stafford traded to Rams for Goff and 2 1st round Picks

Stafford, Rodgers, DW4...these Qbs are getting mighty full of themselves wanting to be traded after signing these mega deals and extensions. If I were any other player of the team I’d be pissed. These guys already get all the shine when a team wins, they are also typically the highest paid players on the team. Now they’re out here submarining franchises by demanding trades with exorbitant contracts?

Goff was the redhead step child for the Rams. Every time they had success it’s was McVay’s brilliance, or Gurley’s versatility, or Donald and the defense. When they failed though it was almost always blamed on Goff...sometimes unfairly.

If I’m him, I’m excited to be done with the Rams even if I’m headed to Detroit.

He signed that contract before the new GM and coach were hired. He is a Maserati, he doesn’t want to be driven like a Pinto. He got the hell beat out of him this year and he doesn’t see it improving in the foreseeable future. His career will be wasted here, just like Watts has been!

The full blockbuster trade involving two former No. 1 overall draft picks ... #Lions get: QB Jared Goff 3rd-round pick in 2021 1st-round pick in 2022 1st-round pick in 2023 #Rams get: QB Matthew Stafford

They gave up a young QB with some talent and multiple 1st round picks and a 3rd for Matthew Stafford? Holy shat, DW4 better bring in a cargo ship of compensation.

I didn't hear that Stafford had demanded a trade but did hear the Lions were ready to make the move. Rodgers and Watson on the other hand could be forcing their respective teams to make a move. I think Rodgers was frustrated due to a bad coaching decision in their loss to TBx2 (Tampa Bay / Tom Brady) and he'll be back in GB. Watson might be the next mega-trade now that Caserio and the Texans have seen what Stafford delivered to the Lions. A Watson trade just would probably light up the night sky.

If Watson is leaving....I hope it's to the Dolphins. They have the most in regards to draft capital. I would want the following package:

TEXANS Get:
1. I'll take Tua off the their hands in the hopes that he looks like a starter after camp. If not, he's a trade chip before the 2021 deadline.
2. 2021 RD1-03-003 / RD1-18-018 / RD2-03-035 / RD2-18-050
3. 2022 RD1
4. 2023 RD1 / RD3

DOLPHINS Get:
1. QB- Watson
2. LB- Mercilus (Full Contract)
3. WR- Cobb (Full Contract)

If the Texans were to move Cooks for a RD2 and Watt for a RD3 then they could have a really solid 2021 NFL Draft:

RD1- 2
RD2- 3
RD3- 3
RD4- 2
RD5- 1
RD6- 3
RD7- 1

15 picks in 2021 would definitely help towards rebuilding the Texans. They shed some more dead contracts in 2022 while having (2) RD1 picks and full compliment of picks means more young players. 2023 would offer the same package....thus making the 2023 NFL Draft that target period for a QB, if needed, and in possession of (2) RD1 picks to make it happen.....again, if needed based on the team's record.

Four 1sts minimum. Plus extras.
Without a top 3 pick in any trade the Texans will be Whizzing in the Wind. Per almost all trade value charts a 1.2 is worth 3-4 1.27. So 5 1s from someone like the Steelers would be bad.

THe Texans gave up a second for Cooks

The Saints traded a first to get Cooks in 2014.

The Patriots traded a first to get Cooks to the Saints in 2017.

The Rams traded a first to get Cooks to the Patriots in 2018.

And we couldn’t get a first for Hopkins.

And we are supposed to be optimistic that the Texans can take advantage of the Stafford trade with Cal signing off?

That’s my point.

I think we are all just beaten down by the last 2 years of trades...Cautiously concerned is where im at

Goff must feel awful.
I dunno how does Les Snead, Rams GM, still have a job with that organization ?
First he uses the #1 overall for Goff in the '16 Draft and couple years later gives him a new contract which of course has turned out to be another giant costly mistake in judgement for the Rams.

You just made me feel a whole lot better. And I thought O’Brian was the only dumbass GM, that’s a complete whack job. Chargers will easily replace Rams as Los Angles #1 NFL franchise and I didn’t see that coming.
If that defense plays like they did in 2020, Rams are going to be a top 3 team in the NFC.

Fit right in around here though.

Didn’t the Chargers just sign away they’re DC, Brandon Staley? Think your top 3 NFC defense is highly suspect going forward, in fact I would wager a beer they won’t be a top 5 defense in the 2021 NFL season :wesmantexanfan:

I think what this trade shows is that the Texans are serious about not fielding offers.

I can almost guarantee that if the Texans were even slightly thinking about moving him they could have asked for and gotten more for watson from the rams.

The Rams didn't even have a 2021 first to give. It belongs to the Jaguars from last year's Jalen Ramsey trade. They had to trade away their 2022 & 2023 1st round picks.

What more could they have possibly given?

Call the FBI. Arrest Brad Holmes for Grand Interstate Larceny. Add in a count of attempted arson, as he’s clearly trying to burn down the Rams Franchise.

The Jets have to be in shock. The only saving grace is that the picks are spread across 3 years. Pucker up Joe Douglas.

I actually like the Rams side of the deal. They upgrade at QB. IMHO, they free up money to be players in FA and they have faith in their scouting dept to findplayers outside of rd 1. Unlike what some on here think you can find great player outside of rd 1 as long as your scouting dept isn't hamstrung by the NOt Texans Worthy thingy.

I also like the deal for the Lions, they get a competent QB to lead them through the 3 yrs or so that it will take to rdbuild and the picks that will be needed to rebuild.

There's more risk for the Lions because they need to hit on those draft picks. They're kind of in the same boat as the Texans are with DW4. Cant win with Stafford and dont have picks to add talent around him. So you might as well trade Stafford and start over anew because you aren't going anywhere with Stafford.
