Ryan

THIS YEAR
two of the last three No. 1 overall picks going at it head to head. How do you think the rook's chances are of holding off one of the league's best DE's tomorrow?

I'm saying slim to none:texflag:

I think "welcome to the NFL ROOK' works too!

I don't see Mario dominating Long.

I do see him easily winning the battle though.

Agreed. Long is the real deal... plus - Miami can say all they want that they're going to let Long defend Mario one-on-one. There's no way that's actually going to happen. Like Mike Tyson said - everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth. If Mario has success early, they'll get Long some help.

It would be nice, but I don't see it happening. Mario will however have another great game I think. I just dont see Jake Long getting handled like he was Jordan Black.

Long will get a real test this week. Miami flips Long to the overbalanced right side when they go to their wildcat formation...it will be interesting to see where the coaches line Mario up when they see that look. Long is a better run blocker than pass blocker so Mario may do well in pass rushing but more poorly in the run game. This should be a great matchup between two players who should be team cornerstones for years to come.

Relative to the league, Miami throws less than league average.

The defense, not just Mario, has to be careful of overpursuit this game.

Plus Pennington doesn't throw all that deep when he does throw. ...hard to accumulate sacks going against a guy who mainly throws off of 3- and 5- step drops.
...plus their play-action must be respected given who their RBs are

Mario will have his typical good game, of that I'm sure. But if Miami runs more than they pass, it just means Mario will probably not get a sack today but a lot of tackles.

I loved the play where he destroyed the double team. He does that consistently but the opposing QB always gets rid of the ball before that. It was sort of a coverage sack since the back end actually held up decently.

I hope Mario goes to the pro bowl this year. He deserves it!

He's a pro bowl shoe in since Allen and Taylor are out of the conference and he was snubbed last year. The big award is All Pro because it combines both conferences. He got that last year and if he keeps playing like this he's gonna get in this year as a 1st teamer.

He also drew a Jake Long holding penalty when Long prevented Pennington from getting flattened by # 90.

if its the play the announcer was talking about it really wasnt against long. someone else held him. it looked to me like mario had most of his success when he lined up on his left and was going up against the rt tackle. long actually held up pretty well on the plays i saw them lined up against each other.
