Mario To Houston A "done Deal"

Guess what it isnt...

:stirpot: We have no Idea what the texans are cooking up at the moment. Neither would people at profootballtalk.com.. They are saying that because the NFl is investigating Reggie Bush. Its all rumor till a major sports network confirms it or the texans confirm it.

I'm not so sure. I'll be happy with either player. If Williams ends up being the dominant pass rushing force the team thinks he will be, it will be well worth it to have him on the team for the next 10-12 years. Pass rushing studs on the line are very difficult to find, much more so than a competent running back.

I'm willing to give the team the benefit of the doubt on this. As a PSL holder, I want to see the team WIN!

Go Texans!

PASQUAWALLLARELLI says the Texans and Buhs's agent havent done a damn thing.....thats the first sign that this is falling apart...and it just continues. In addition, why would Reggie want to sign at this point? This is disrespecful and pride will get in the way. He will lose a couple of million, but I guarantee you he will go #2 to team that wants him. Way to go Texans, Way to go.

"done deal" is a very loose term. Basically, it means they have agreed to terms, and I am sure that is all it is. If they were to draft him #1, here are the terms under which they would proceed. I am sure it is not a signed contract and I am sure that in the passing of deal terms back and forth with Williams camp there is language stating that agreement to terms is based on his selection of being their choice.

So what??

The last thing the texans want to do the day before the draft is answer questions about why they are choosing this person over that one with the #1 pick... They have other picks to plan for and I am glad they are not revealing anything.. They will have plenty of time for explanation after draft day.

I would call the Jets and take less than the draft value board. Just their 2 firsts. We could still possibly get Williams at 4 and if not take Ferguson or Hawk and have that extra pick. Williams is going to be under tremendous pressure by the entire football world if taken at #1 over RB. Some guys step up under it and some crumble.

Exactly...

If the Texans pass on BOTH Reggie Bush AND Vince Young for a guy who took off most games at NC State and got most of his sacks in a handful of games he decided to play (See: Mario Williams)...to quote a retiring legend, whoa nellie. That would be the icing on the stupid cake.

Why do you assume the Jets would do the deal? Just because it's a bargain on the draft value sheet? The Jets may not want to put all their eggs in one basket and pay through the nose for the privilege of doing so.

I would be very disappointed if we went w/ Mario, and i think mario will be great let me get that out of the way.

A Defense isnt made w/ one great player, but a great running back can make an offense, guys like reggie come around once every 10 years maybe, please texans make the right pick.

The Texans have even gone as far as telling Williams' people that he is their No. 1 choice. The Texans had been locked in on Reggie Bush, but want to get a pre-draft deal with whoever they choose.
General manager Charlie Casserly denied to FOXSports.com that Williams was their direction, but the source insisted that such talks are very much going on and the two sides are huddled are intense talks. The agent for Williams, Ben Dogra, had been reluctant to seriously negotiate with the team unless he was confident that Houston was genuinely interested in his client for fear that they would use such a negotiation in dealings with the Bush camp.

Is it possible we agree to terms, then select them in the draft and pass those terms to a team that wanted him for a certain price, but couldn't negotiate with him directly since they aren't the #1?

Are the Jets looking to replace Abraham and get Williams at a reasonable price if we can negotiate it for them? Then we trade down based on friendly economics.

There is something more to this than just going after him ourselves. Maybe one of the other teams that want him wanted him only at a certain negotiated contract price.

Too late....there's another rumor that McNair was invited by Howie Mandell to "Deal or No Deal" show. His family members included Kubiak, Casserly, and his wife. He picked case #5.....at the end, all he had left was two $$ amounts for .01 cents and $1Mllion dollars. McNair then decided to exchange his Case #5 for Case #9.....Case #9 had a penny!!! The crowd went into schock a boooed them out of the stage. Some people claim that they threw tomatoes at them!! Case #5 had $1 Million dollars...he had it all along....but he decided to play games and lost.

It has been widely reported that the Jets love Reggie Bush. Bush has also expressed his love for NY. That makes me assume the deal could get done.

Texans appear to be focusing on Williams, not Bush
By Len Pasquarelli
ESPN.com

Even as Houston Texans officials continued to insist they have made no decision about the first selection in the draft, there were strong indications Friday afternoon that the team has redirected its focus to North Carolina State defensive end Mario Williams.

Texans executives were in substantive negotiations with Ben Dogra, the representative for Williams, throughout the day. Conversely, ESPN.com learned that the agent for Southern California tailback and Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush had not heard from the Texans, as of late Friday afternoon, in more than 24 hours.

The two sides spoke twice Thursday, but only briefly and made no progress toward an accord. During the week, progress was incremental and one person close to the discussions termed them "a little bit like being in quicksand."

In addition, league sources told ESPN.com that, in terms of guaranteed money, the latest offer made to Williams exceeds the best proposal made to Bush.

Minus any conversations with the Bush camp since Thursday, there seemed little chance the Texans could strike a pre-draft accord with the draft's highest-profile performer even if they were to jump-start the negotiations on Friday evening.

Texans general manager Charley Casserly had cautioned earlier in the week that anyone concluding the team had decided on Bush and was only using Williams as leverage was mistaken. He reiterated that the Texans were serious about both players, negotiating with both agents, and that one of the two would be the top pick.

Dogra, however, was originally reluctant to enter into negotiations because he felt that his client might be used to force Bush into a deal. Clearly, the Texans convinced him that was not the case.

Were the Texans to choose Williams, it would mark the first time since 2000 that a defensive player was the first prospect off the board. The Cleveland Browns chose defensive Courtney Brown with the first pick that year.

The choice of Williams by the Texans could also dramatically alter the landscape of the early segment of the first round. The New Orleans Saints, with the second choice, have indicated they would snap up Bush if he fell to their slot. But the Saints had hinted, in general, that they might entertain trade offers for their pick.

The availability of Bush at the No. 2 spot would almost certainly elicit trade offers.

I dreamt this last night.

I dreamt we got sideways with Bush, his representation and family and ended up taking Williams. It seemed like a really real dream.

If we take Williams, I am responsible for it.

After VY declared, I made some "Draft Vince" t-shirts.

After we picked up Carr's bonus, I made a Reggie t-shirt, complete with rhinestones. Because I figured it was inevitable. I decided to finish putting the rhinestones on the t-shirt last night.

In other words, if I make a t-shirt for a draft choice, maybe it means that we won't take that guy.

I was gonna have my friend wear the Reggie shirt to the draft party--I guess she could and if we don't pick him, we can always X out the Reggie with a Sharpie and write oops.

Well, hurry up and put together your "draft Williams" t-shirt! Please hurry!!!

Who do want instead? DBrick?

I am running out of time--the tshirts were pretty fancy. I guess I could scribble out a Super Mario t-shirt.

I do not remember a draft like this. Anyone?

If that is the case, then you need to pay my $25 bet I had with Jerek on who we would take, Bush(me) or Williams(jerek).

Texans | Still willing to deal pick
Fri, 28 Apr 2006 16:06:40 -0700

According to the NFL Network, Houston Texans owner Bob McNair said the team is willing to trade down from the No. 1 spot in the upcoming NFL Draft if the right offer comes along.

HA! Posturing is what we are doing, as I thought. Too much information about our intentions are being 'leaked' into the media in hopes of stirring up business.

McNair has his marketing hat on today.

sportsradio 610 Lance Z was just on and said his sources are confirming Mario will be the #1 pick tommorow :brickwall

Hmmm...

Full throttle towards Reggie with no inclination of Mario. All the talking heads are agreeing - yep, #1 pick is chosen. Let's talk about the other top players since Bush = Texans.

NO's pick becomes the more tradeable since the Texans are obviously going Bush, and since the draft is deep - why trade up to #1?

No offers heard of for Bush via CC.

Alright - it's draft-eve. What? Bush hasn't heard anything in 24 hours? The Texans are heavy into Williams now? You mean BUSH IS AVAILABLE?!?! Will the #2 get him or will someone else jump in front?

HOLY SCHNIKES!!! Hello Texans, yeah this is team "x"... let's talk. I still think Bush or trade down, personally.

Stay tuned...

If this is true and we take Williams with the first overall pick, I'd like:

-to see what have the premier DE's in the NFL signed for recently and how does it compare to what we will pay Mario

-to trade Babin or Peek on the draft day for picks or for a good NFL DB.

Just think now we will have 60 mil invested in Williams and 25 mil In Weaver LOL. That is a lot of money tied into that Defense End spot.

Mork, Jerek, Coach C., and the rest of the Mario bandwagon from a while back expect a large reputation boost from those of you who did not believe us when we told you about this kid.

Nope.

I would suggest you follow my lead. I don't bet on things that I cannot control. This means that I wouldn't have done your bet, nor do I bet on my golf game.

This post actually calmed me down quite a bit. Good post, and I like your logic behind the events that have gone down in the last 1-2 hours. I just hope you're right. :)

That's ok, I still feel pretty comfortable about winning the bet. I still think this whole thing is fodder to reel Bush a bit lower in expectations and bait trade queries.

Well, local Fox just interrupted the Simpsons to "break" that the Texans and Williams reached a verbal agreement and all that had to be completed was Williams' signature to finalize the deal. Morons.

Easy! Don't break your arm patting yourself on the back just yet!!

;)

This has to be some sort of bad joke or nightmare. The Texans are on their way to being on the You Can't Blame shows on ESPN (i.e. You Can't Blame Portland for taking Sam Bowie). Nothing like having an opportunity to validate your franchise, and flushing it down the toilet. Nice work, McNair. :brickwall

That's what I was thinking.........."With the first pick in the 2006 NFL Draft, the Houston Texans select, Sam Bowie." Sure hope he lives up to his hype.

Texans | Team telling Williams' people he will be No. 1
Fri, 28 Apr 2006 16:42:14 -0700

Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports the Houston Texans are in intense negotiations with the agent for North Carolina State DE Mario Williams to become the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft. The Texans have even gone as far as telling Williams' people that he is their No. 1 choice. Texans general manager Charlie Casserly denied to FOXSports.com that Williams was their direction, but the source insisted that such talks are very much going on and the two sides are huddled are intense talks. Agent Ben Dogra did not want to enter intense talks unless he was confident that Houston was genuinely interested in his client for fear that they would use such a negotiation in dealings with the USC RB Reggie Bush's camp.

Wow...state of shock...they have to be some of the stupidest people in NFL. Not only are they going to pass on maybe the most dynamic player of his generation but the pressure be they just put Mr. Williams under may be unbearable. Essentially he better be one of the best DE to ever play the game or he is in trouble. Hopefully he will have 10 sacks by the 2nd game...

So what if Casserly has denied it. Its not fact..

WILL EVERYONE GIVE IT A REST!!! ITS NOT A DONE DEAL TILL TEXANS OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCE IT!!!! (FOR THE 4518th TIME!!!)

This could be a rumor to spark trade talks with other teams it could be motivation for Bush to come to an agreement.. Heck it might just be someone sitting a stall goin to the bathroom and heard mario Williams's Name....

Quit jumping to the conclusion short bus and stop and look at the big picture...
