Marino, Young into HOF but Irvin snubbed

I heard that there was a faction of pro-Art Monk voters who are refusing to vote for Irvin until Monk is elected. I'm sure John McClain will have an article on this as he is a Hall of Fame voter and lifelong Cowgirl lover.

Interesting. I heard there were some politics in the HOF voting, but maybe more than I realized. This sounds like a group of politicians in Congress holding out on supporting a bill without support for their own bill. Yea, be interesting to see what McClain has to say about this.
I dunno, Marino is a slam dunk IMO, but hard for me to see how Young gets
in before Irvin (or maybe Thomas to).

This stinks. Despite playing in eight Super Bowls and winning five, the Cowboys still have only five players in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Every year some Cowboy gets snubbed.

I cant believe Derrick Thomas did not get in, I agree with Marino and Young. Irvin will have to wait a few years.

Thanks. I do remember the car accident now. The thing I always remember about Derrick is that his father was a Vietnam war hero.

I just might have to make a trip to Ohio in August. Being a lifelong NINER fan, this would be a priceless moment for me. I HAVE TO GO!!!!!

Anyone know yet who will be playing?

This doesn't surprise me. They screwed over Bob Hayes for years and he was certainly deserving.

When a guy like Art Monk is still not in, I don't have a problem with Irvin not going in his first year.

Besides, it'd be a lot cooler if they waited 5 more years and let Irvin, Aikman and Smith all go in together. :D

Listen we can't let everyone in the hall of fame... we can only let 4-5 every year. its just the way things work. people will eventually get in.

Not true. I just read where Harry Carson has been up for a decade or more and hasn't been voted in yet. He is so tired of the entire process that he has asked that his name be taken off the ballot rather than go thru the insult of a yearly snub from the HOF committee.

Bob Hayes is dead now for what 2 years so I guess it doesn't matter to him anymore....never mind that they had ample years to induct him while he was alive and well.

I look at this at sort of the same scenerio as the Guy V. Lewis snub with the basketball HOF. It's not right, it demeans the process of who deserves to be in and after awhile it all becomes a big joke.

I am amazed the Art Monk isn't in yet. Irvin should have been a first year inductee. This system is country clubish.

I have no problem with Irvin not being a first ballot HOFer. He will get though, it's inevitable. I didn't know Monk was not in. Thanks just not rught.

Irvin and his off the field distractions like drugs and cheating on his wife were highly publicized when he was here. If Art Monk isn't in, then he shouldn't be in.

That type of conduct is suppose to be something the committee doesn't take into account. It is strictly your on the field performance.

Based on that LT wouldn't have been anywhere near Canton and he got in on the first ballot (which I agree with). He was a cocaine addict and cheated on his wife.

McClain had an interesting take on his segment this morning on 610. He was speaking with a SF writer who said Troy Aikman wasn't a "slam dunk" inductee. So he is trying to get with others on the committee to make the votes public. That way you find out who is voting yes or no; perhaps it's because of the writer's location, a team bias, whatever.

I give up trying to figure this stuff out. I think it's just basically a popularity contest in some cases and they don't really care about the player's on field performance.

Troy Aikman wasn't a slam dunk? He won 3 Super Bowls to Youngs 1. There aren't many Cowboys in the Hall Of Fame even though they achieved huge success.

That's what McClain said. He said he was talking about guys eligible for next year and he mentioned Troy being a "slam dunk" and this guy from SF said he wasn't. I guess that meant he was not going to vote for Troy.

I don't know. I'm kind of inclined to wonder if Troy will make it next year.

My feeling is the voters ought to take the helmets off the players, forget who they played for and just go by performance. Obviously some of the voters are not doing that.

I'm very upset that Bob Hayes has never made it. Too late now! He's dead! And he was very hurt by the snubbing over the years. I completely see where Harry Carson is coming from. Why put yourself through all that year after year?

Steve Young Has three rings, two were as a second stringer.

it's cause they were a great TEAM let me refraise TEAM. i mean after all one man cant achieve all the great things needed to get into the Hall of Fame without great players surrounding him !

Oh, my mistake. He still doesn't deserve those two. Not to sound rediculous, but they shouldn't give Super Bowl rings to guys who didn't contribute, like Jimmy Smith, Steve Young and practice squad players.

So should Bernie Kosar's ring from being a back-up in Dallas elevate him over Dan Marino who never won one?

Or were they a great TEAM because it was chocked full of great PLAYERS?
