LTs in the MIA vs VA

Took the opportunity to watch MIA vs VA today and see D'Brick and Winston play. Although I've never played OL, my observations are as follows:

D'Brick: Very athletic LT; sustains blocks well; good feet--quick lateral movement; good balance; he made one pla where he blocked one pass-rusher--took him down and then blocked another. Curiously VA chose to run mostly to right side...wasn't sure why. He's big, but not massive.

Winston: Huge drive blocker; pushes his guy around with ease; sets up well on pass block; feet OK; hands very good; kept his guy away from QB on all plays I saw. Great run blocker, opened some huge holes.

I think either guy helps our line, but I'm not sure Winston is the answer at LT, he would probably be fine as a RT. D'Brick looks to have the feet/athletism to handle quicker/faster DEs, eventhough Tapp (VT) gave him a few problems.

At this point I'd consider spending a top 5 on D'Brick and probably a 10-15 on Winston. Just my opinion, the rest of the season and off-season will solidify where they both grade out.

I think you made a very valid observation and report, this is close enough for me anyway to begin a base point since we all know the Texans must go with a tackle as the 1st rd pick, now I did not say the 1st pick overall just the Texans 1st round pick. just a guess but that would mean a possible ONE trade down and still get D'Brick or a possible SECOND trade down and snag Winston, personally either would work for me. If the Texans do draft Ferguson he could play LT and move Pitts to RT. If the Texans draft Winston start him out at RT and leave Pitts at LT.

with the addition of one, two, possibley three more top prospects (trade down scenero) the Texans could essentially retool in one draft.

it would be a start. i feel we need to sign some FA's....(carlos rogers anyone?) and maybe a solid LB or four.

Ferguson is a bit undersized at least i think. top five pick is not even a? we are gonna have the 1st the thing are planning out and he is not worth a 1st overall no matter how much need we have that does not justify a wasted pick. now if he was and O.Pace Or J.Ogden type of player hell yeah spend the first but not on a undersized OT.

hes not undersized, hes underweight. his frame is great and will grow into it quickly. winson is closest now to those guys, but fuergeson probally has mroe upside.

Ferguson is underweight and has a history of problems keeping weight on, plus he is basically only a LT, and most rookies don't start at LT so he'd be playing out of position for at least a year, whereas Winston can play most positions on the OL and is bigger and stronger, so I say we draft Winston.

Don't forget that he is going to get in the best shape of his life for work outs and the combined. So you can add about 10 to 15 pounds to his listed weight. Plus, once he gets into a professional lifting and dieting program he will be at the right weight for his height.

thats a few assumptions, but either him or winston will be our best choice.
