This was a tough game to judge, due to the first teamers playing bits throughout the game, but here we go!
QB - Carr showed poise, even though the o-line was horrible and still managed to complete 7-10 = B+
RB - No time, but no cuts either = D
WR - If the line doesn't proctect, how can the wr's show what they have. Johnson mishap, but he'll give more than the negatives = b-
Line - Horrible = F
D Line - No penetration. Looked like they were in another game somewhere else = D
Linebackers - Missed tackles, misplays, BABIN IS AS LOST AS SPACE! (I don't know about this kid. Not showing the quickness advertised) = D
DB's - overmatched by pro bowl talent and backup's. But, with no front 7 penetration, you can only cover for so long! = C
Safeties - Coleman better get it together next week. Has to make better calls in the secondary = C
Kicking - A
Special team - Moses has to win the competition. Elusive, but just not fast enough to break the big one. I'll take sure hands and good field position, rather than inexperienced fumbles or mishaps - B+

Except for the line play, I thought the first team offense played well. They had no turnovers! Even on that last series when the starters were in, a touchdown would have been nice but we got a field goal, which is better than turning the ball over. Carr didn't try to force the ball when there wasn't anything there.
It's difficult to grade units individualy because of the impact they have on each other. Such as the D-line not keeping blockers off the LBs, etc. But I will say that that was the worst game I've ever seen Sharper & Foreman have. Sharper played as if he didn't really want to be there, and Foreman just didn't want to hit anyone. I'm not a big fan of Foreman, but he's not as bad as he showed last night. He would have been cut out of the league a long time ago if he was. Wong looked like he needs many more reps at ILB to be effective. With Peek looking as bad as he did, I don't think he gets them.sabbat00 said:
I see a lot of posts blasting Babin's performance, but it was Peek that the Steelers were steamrolling. Peek has the same problem against the run that he had a year ago, jumping inside and getting sealed. Babin didn't get off his blocks and pursue like the Steelers did, but at least he held up at the point of attack.
I think the best thing is to keep Wong at ROLB and hope that Foreman & Sharper wake up by the season opener. Unless Peek figures it out soon, he's a situational pass rusher & a special teamer at this point.

Excellent analyis! That is pretty much how I see it too. Peek was really getting sealed inside, allowing running play after running play to bust outside for major yardage. He has to learn to hold up and keep containment. He must force the back back inside where more help is available. If Peek doesn't improve in a huge hurry, he will be relagated to situational pash rusher status, at least for this year. And, although early, I would like to see a more from Babin if he is to start. The problem is if he doesn't start who will? Peek? I think it's going to be baptism by fire for Babin.

I think Lucky summed this up the best myself. Peek just doesn't look like a starter right now and Foreman has always been a player that was marginal in my eyes (for the last couple of seasons). Not only did Peek find himself out of position a few times, but when he had a clear shot at the ball he failed to make the stop. If he can't tackle any better than he showed Saturday he will never be a starter. I'm not worried about Sharper and I expected Wong to be thinking more than reacting in the middle. Ro Smith didn't hold up very well either. I was, and will continued to be a bit worried about his play until I see him beat a few of the chronic double teams he will face in a 3-4 system.
