Man that is a pretty decent draft, but would like to switch up some picks. The first two are solid and if it fell that way then freakin sweet. In the third going after Ko Simpson would not be overly good. I know it is taken with a grain of salt but a certain friend of mine who happens to maybe be around the scouting guys in the organization says Ko Simpson has a 4th round grade from us. Now I dont know if that is completely true, but he says that is the way it goes, but since he had to work till about 9:30 the night he told me he might be off. Hopefully a guy like Bullocks falls there or we wait and take a guy like Antoine Bethea later on. Bethea is a small school guy similar to Donte Whitner. Fast likes to hit and can play some corner. Rather grab a higher rated guard or Wideout and then take Terna Nande or Leon Williams in the fourth. Both of those guys are athletic strong and can play inside or outside LB. Nande is a bit small, but he makes up for it with tenacity watch his games and he will remind you of a black Zach Thomas. Leon Williams is athletic and plays alot like Andra Davis LB for Cleveland. Change up just those picks and I am a happy camper.
 
I like this draft alot overall. I am not as high on Ko Simpson as some people, but he would instantly be the best safety we have imo. I don't care much for the 4th rounder. I think that's about a round too high for this guy, and besides, we don't need a DE badly at all at this point. I would rather see a CB there, maybe a Tim Jennings, or Marcus Maxey. Both of those guys would be excellent nickel corners, who could eventually start if they developed, although Jennings is a midget so he may never be more than a super fast nickel. In any case, if it went down exactly like this, you won't see me complaining. :redtowel:

NFL draft two weeks away, the one hot spot in the first round remains with the New Orleans Saints and second overall pick. While I still have North Carolina State defensive end Mario Williams going to New Orleans, the outlook of the first round could change significantly if the Saints trade the pick.
My first-round projections remain nearly the same, with the one newcomer being NC State defensive end Manny Lawson. Overshadowed by Williams at NC State, Lawson had a very good senior season then performed exceptionally well at the NFL scouting combine. Right now I am projecting the Jets will use their second first-round pick on Lawson, where he will be used as a pass-rushing defensive end/outside linebacker.
New this week are my projections for the second, third and fourth rounds. You will be surprised to see some players initially projected as first-round picks have slipped to the second round in recent weeks.

i like it...but would prefer either matua or zemaitis with our 4th
 
I'm not sure I'm crazy about Wyche. I tried to find some info on him and this is the only thing I could find....not exactly a glowing endorsement. This is from www.nfldraftcountdown.com. (I don't have ESPN Insider, maybe someone else can post what they say about him).

Strengths:
Has good size with long arms and the frame to add weight...Pretty good natural athlete who changes direction well and has a burst...Does a nice job rushing off the edge...Uses his hands well...Has good range & moves well in the open field.

Weaknesses:
Does not have great speed or quickness...Inconsistent and his motor and intensity are spotty...Needs to get stronger in both his upper and lower body...Is a liability versus the run...Production dropped as a senior in '05...Underachiever.

Notes:
Was never able to have the big season everyone was waiting for...Has some tools to work with and has not yet reached his full potential...Developmental prospect who could flourish if he can bulk up and learn to play hard every down.

I like the ESPN mock especially getting Bush and Eric Winston from Miami in round 2. Earlier in the year he was considered a 1st round selection. I know he has slipped but it would still be nice to bring him in and let him play either RT or LT. What do you guys think
 
he's a RT. he doesn't have the wingspan to be a LT. great athletically, but has been very inconsistent at miami. injury concerns, too (which i'm sure has a lot to do with his inconsistency). i for one think he should've stayed at tight end.

Holy Crapola!!! This is the absolute sweetest draft we could dream up. We get Eric Winston who is going to be fully recovered from his injury and should slide into RT. Ko Simpson at 65 is the steal of the draft and Wilkerson would probally be the best LB on our team.

That's what I thought about Winston. What I saw in the senior bowl pratices was a guy still protecting a knee. Every say he's a 100% . But it fits our tendincy to roll snake eyes in the second. Lots of great players @ 33 under this scenario. Rather have one of the dancing bear gaurds myself. Pick'em.

I like that one too because I think we can get a quality OLineman in the later rounds too and there is more depth and talent at OL than LB.

At 33 I would rather pick up D'Marco Ryans from Alabama or even Abdul Hodge, LB Iowa.
 
I actually really like his first 10 picks, a rarity for me to like Kiper's picks. There are a lot of picks in the 1st round that I don't see going quite this way, but all of them are at least pretty reasonable, the 2nd round starts to get a little carried away with a lot of the picks and I don't like the Wyche pick at #98 (if we are going to go DE, why not get Dumervil or maybe Adeyanju who are both still on the board). Going from who he has available at each of our picks, these are the guys I'd take for us:

#1 Reggie Bush (I'd still prefer Mario but I'll leave this at Bush)
#33 Nick Mangold (I really like Eric Winston, but there are a few questions about him and with Colledge available at #98 in this mock I'll take him there and Mangold here)
#65 Ko Simpson
#66 Maurice Stovall/Brandon Marshall (I personally like Marshall as much as Stovall and I think he will end up falling to the 4th round and we could get him there)
#98 Daryn Colledge (if we don't go Winston at #33), otherwise Dumervil or Demetrice Webb
 
Pretty good draft.

Im not REAL high on Ko Simpson in the 3rd.. but that may be too good a deal to pass up. I just dont want a FS that scored a 10 on his wonderlic. Still..he would be an immediate improvement in our secondary i think.

Im also in agreement that James Wyche is a STRETCH at that pick. After a full day off to consider who is left on the board, we take Wyche? I hope we arent that dumb.

here is who i would have rather taken.

DeMario Minter (may have questionable attitude, but at least he has the physical tools)

Rodrique Wright(maybe not a need, but still worth grabbing. Maybe it would placate the rabid Vince Young supporters here in Houston)

Greg Eslinger (perfect center for the Kubiak style Oline)

Daryn Colledge (perfect tackle for the Kubiak style Oline)
 
ACTUALLY... The guy we need to take in the 4th who isnt even listed in Kipers draft..is Ray Edwards. I think he is twice the prospect that Wyche is.

We dont have a 5th rounder, so I think we should definatly be taking Edwards in the 4th.

Why are we taking a WR in the 3rd round? We have drafted two already (ok not technically, but a 5th for Moulds, and a 7th for Walter). Doesn't that kind of cover us? I like your draft, but I would take another defensive guy at #66, either a LB or CB. I'm not all that high on Ko Simpson either, but again, not bad. And Colledge at #98 is an absouloute steal.
 
I'd like to see an OT with our 2nd and the BPA out of CB, FS, LB, DE, or TE with our two 3rd's and our 4th.

Kippers Mock is whack, but I like your position acquisitions list. It seems everyone has their favorite prospects @ each position. I won't bring up the 1st pick but I'm leaning towards trading down more than ever, I would enjoy having two #1's next year, that being said in the 2nd round I like offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth

pick #65 Ko Simpson should be taken long before the Texans pick again so another FS I really like that nobody seems to talk about is Pat Watkins from Florida State he would be a natural replacement for Marcus Coleman, similar size @ 6046. pick #66 you still have two killer guards available Max Jean Gilles & Charles Spencer, the top LB's, CB's, FS's & DE's are gone so this could be a possiblity, or TE. Kipper has Notre Dame TE Anthony Fasano available & the Texans will need to upgrade Brunner with a competent blocking TE, as a bonus Fasano has good hands and can help Carr underneath as outlet or stretch the field

I would like to see the Texans use the 4th round pick along with trading down from #1 to secure more second round picks, but if they keep pick #98 they would go bpa, is Wyche that guy? probably not but not a bad pick, he does have both Rodrique Wright & Jonathan Scott still around, would not mind seeing either one in a Texans uniform :)
 
someone's doing their homework. put this in a time capsule and compare to the actual. I'm not saying these players but the positions and point at which they take 2 offense and then go 100% defense is exactly what I see happening.

I'll address this to Grid as well, but why are you not a fan of Ko?

Just to be fair I'll tell you why I like him. Dude is a friggin ballhawk and he tackles extremely well for a FS. The guy is like Ed Reed in that he always seems to be around the ball in the secondary. I remember in the Georgia game this year Ko was playing with Shockley all game. He would give a guy just enough cushion to bait Shockley and then jump all over it. He should have had 3 or 4 INT's. Granted Shockley is awful, but Ko also harassed David Greene the year before.
 
I may be a little bit biased but Ko Simpson can play some football. He is a great Rover and can hit hard, his wonderlic was dissapointing but when it comes to actually playing football he is very skilled. Getting him in the 3rd or late 2nd would be a steal IMHO.

Walter was a decent pick, but I don't plan on him being a good #2 WR at any point in the future, I think he's a career #3 guy. Moulds is a great addition but I only see him having two effective years left in him, and WRs generally take a year to two come around, so I think we need to look for Moulds' eventual replacement as our #2 WR now and give them a couple years to learn behind Moulds and AJ before we put him in the starting lineup, plus if a guy like Stovall falls to the 3rd round I'd definitely look at him, although I think Brandon Marshall is just as good of a WR and we could probably get him in the 4th round.

I'm with you on drafting a WR, I don't think Walter or Mathis is ready to step into a #2 and I though I like Mathis I don't think him or Walter are that great of WRs right now. Getting a guy like Stovall (who I am really high on) would probably immidiately become the #3 WR and take over for Moulds when he gets older.

im a pretty big Nwestern fan and i can tell u zach strief was a great player there and he could possibly be a steal for u guys. i dunno how he fits in ur system but w/e.... also i think he was voted to ABC all-americans or sumthin, u could look it up. i remeber he dominated Hali when they played penn st this year :)
