1) KAWAAN SHORT, NT
Should compete for a starting spot from day 1. Good all around player, but I especially like the way he rushes the passer from the NT position. I think he and Earl would be a nice combo at the position.
2) JUSTIN HUNTER, WR
Big and fast. I love Justin Hunter. He's raw, but he truly has #1 potential. I think he can do it all. Can catch the ball short and pick up YAC...He can also make catches down the field. He's 6'4" with 4.4 speed and good agility. He moves like a little guy.
3) BRANDON JENKINS, OLB
If not for his injury that kept him out all of last year, he'd likely be going earlier. Explosive off the snap. Would be a good back up for Merciless and I think he could actually provide some competition for playing time...Especially in pass rush situations.
3) DJ SWEARINGER, S
Swearinger can play either safety role in Wade's defense. I really like Swearinger and I think he's excellent value here. After Redd retires he's your starter and immdiately makes an impact on special teams, as a back up and if/when we go to the three safety look.
4) DAVID QUESSENBERRY, OT
I watched some clips on him at the senior bowl practices and I like what I saw. Good athlete, strong frame and he moves well. Looks like he could be really good in pass pro. I think he'd immediately be your swing tackle and could eventually challenge for a starting spot if not immediately.
5) KENJON BARNER, RB/KR, OREGON
Fast aggressive runner. Not Trindon Holiday fast, but I think he's more reliable as a returner and can actually contribute on offense. I think this would be an excellent pick up at this point in the draft. Fills two needs with a talented prospect.
6) JOHNNY ADAMS, CB
I like Johnny Adams. He reminds me of Glover Quinn a little bit. Tough corner back with good coverage skills and also has some returner ability. I think he challenges Roc Carmichael for his spot on the depth chart. Has the potential to play a bigger role in the future.
6) ZACH SUDFELD, TE
Big guy at 6'7" and about 260ish lbs. Runs about a 4.7 forty, good hands, good blocker. I think he makes the roster as the 3rd TE. Watched him on film some and I liked what I saw. Shows good blocking skills, but also really fluid catching passes for a guy so big.
7) ZACH LINE, FB/RB
I don't know if he makes the roster, but I like Line. I think he could immediately contribute on special teams, and could play the FB position for us even though he ran the ball a bunch for SMU. He's built like a full back, but he's quicker than most guys at that position. He's 6'0" and a little over 230 lbs. Could easily be a back up full back/emergency ball carrier.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I didn't draft an ILB...Don't really like the ILB's in this draft and I think we can get a guy named Jon Major from Colarado as an UDFA and honestly I'd take him over most of the guys that I've looked at in this draft. Plus, I think we can still bring Dobbins back...Maybe sign another free agent or two...
