King Bill's First Draft

I thought OB's first official draft was deserving of it's own thread.

Draft selections are often contentious due to we fans and our opinions. We fall in love with certain players at certain points in the process. We abhor others. However in the end we as a group are re-energized for a new NFL season.

That said, I feel like O'Brien the General Manager managed this draft well. He filled positions of need without over reaching, with solid lunch-pail type players. No real splashes where made, but all selected this year have the potential to do good things for this franchise.

Without the players ever setting foot on the field and just judging by selections, trades and and needs filled, I give OB a solid B+.

Lets discuss.

I give this draft a B and if Blacklock/Greenard hit that grade goes to an A.

I know what I had in mind and I see what OB delivered.....I think he did a better than expected job drafting the right players at positions of need. I'm going to watch how Heck delivers after OB traded up to select him as a Swing Tackle.

Not sure how this ended up in the "Mock Draft" section. But I suppose more fans would Mock OB's selections than praise them, so maybe it makes sense.

Ignorant fans would. This wasn't a sexy draft. This was a meat and potatoes type solid draft. One that was a very solid draft. (I'm sure you meant for there to be a healthy dose of sacrcasm in your post

I lot of my postings on the forum are intermingled with heavy doses of sarcasm.

I felt every other team in the AFC South had a better draft than the Texans. Two B’s and one A grade (Indy), IMHO.

If anyone has noticed I haven’t blasted O’Brien over the draft. The Texans poor job in managing the roster, before they even lost Duane Brown, has had a dominos effect that hurts them even todayand into at least another year. They’ve been behind the curve ever since, which was a problem of their own making. They wait until a problem area becomes so big that they overpay (in future draft picks and salary cap) out of desperation.

This weak draft class for the Texans was a culmination of about 6-8 years of horrible mismanagement from front offices prior to O’Brien becoming the GM de facto. So I’ll change my grade from a D to a C-. A passing grade.

For the record I’ve rarely given the Texans high draft grades. They typically do pretty well in the 1st and 2nd rounds and lousy the rest of the way. That was always a complaint I had with Rick Smith.

Other than the minor fiasco with the Detroit trade, I'm inclined to agree.

I have to be honest with myself though. There's still a part of me that wants to drop this by at least a half-grade just due to NOT getting a 1st rounder in the Hopkins trade.

Hold on @santo, wo wo wo. Hold up. I didnt realize you were such a big dude. Or that you were in shape or a former golden gloves champ.

Dont hit me. Can you just yell at me instead?

How am I supposed to lead a revolution with a jaw wired shut?

I liked the Colts two picks in the 2nd. And when you throw in getting Buckner for their 1st, yeah Indy hit it out of the park.

The Jags did great in the 1st with two defensive studs. But, don't they have good drafts every year, with nothing to show for it?

Disagree with your Titans assessment. Reached in the 1st for a DJ Fluker type that will eventually need to kick inside. A couple of backups in the middle rounds. They did come up with a starting CB, so it's an OK draft. Not better than the Texans draft.

Agreed, Ballard is a bada$$.

He's gotta find a QB though. Who would've thunk it.
