KEYE in Austin ALREADY messing with Texan fans

DiehardChris

You betcha!
I just checked the schedule for Thursday, and KEYE in Austin is going to televise the Hillbillies to the North game instead of the Texans/Bucs game. This really infuriates me becaues the KEYE website actually says "KEYE 42 is the official home of Houston Texans preseason football." On the EXACT SAME PAGE, the site ALSO says "KEYE 42 is the official home of Dallas Cowboys preseason football."

Hey ***holes - YOU CAN'T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS!!! Or should I say - you can't have it THREE ways, because we all know what's going to happen when Austinites start crying about wanting to see VY this season.

It really makes me angry that these jerks actually say they are the 'official' home of Texans preseason football, when they won't even show the freaking game on Thursday night. Instead - we get Hillibillies vs. Vikings??? GRRRRR!!!

Could be worse, you could be stuck in New Mexico and have to pay for the NFL package just so you can see regular season games. Preseason? Man, I'm glad when we play the cowboys, cause it means I get to watch my boys before the season starts.

Or you could be in San Antonio, where they don't act like they are going to show the Texans (cause they don't)

THIRD BASE THIS THURSDAY!

I just called and scheduled a babysitter for Cage. Me and Mary Jane will be there! Let's make this a large gathering so we can just scream our heads off and make our presence known in Austin. If we get a large gathering, then maybe we can let KEYE know that that's where the Houston Texans fans of Austin hang out and they'll send a noob over to film us like they do for other teams. It's been done!

Nitro, glad to see your showing however you wont see me yet. I cant do thursday night and really dont want to do the last preseason game.
I'll be there no doubt for the Chiefs game, and thats what we are gearing up for as far as I know.
KEYE had the game on but it was the Cowgirls announcers , but the NFL netwrok had another team thank god, becaue those homers never said one good thing about the Texans.

I remember a bunch of y'all writing the station last year with no results from KEYE... Maybe the approach should be going to the front office of the Texans and trying pressure that way. Maybe they are breaking regional rules??? It wouldn't hurt to at least write the Texans FO..

What is sad is that the Titans game will most likely not feature VY, yet the official Texans station will not show the Texans game as we whittle down to 53. Incompetence and ignorance is abounding from KEYE's sports programming department.

I emialed the fan feedback a few times last year and the response was less than steller. The Texans marketing dept seriously needs an overhaul. They do nothing outside of the Houston Area.

yeah, VY will probably play one possession and then sit on his keister. Austin was a great city to go to school at but their local stations are horrible.

OT - is KLBJ still around and independent? I had heard that radio station was bought by the evil empire, Clear Channel.

This is nothing new. When I lived in Austin many years ago, the local NBC station (which carried the Oilers) had the Cowboys and Oilers rights for a particular Sunday. The Cowboys were awful while Houston was in the playoff hunt. The station did a telephone poll to decide which game to show which the Oilers won handily.

The station must not have liked the result, because a few weeks later when the situation came up again, they didn't ask, and, no big surprise, they showed the Cowboys.

The moral is, call all you want, the station will do whatever it wants. If you want action, contact the advertisers; they're the ones with the pull.

Are you serious that they are already not going to show the Texans opening day in Austin?

If so, looks like im switching to sattelite.

KEYE is NOT the official station of the Texans no matter what the hell they say. They opted for the Cowboys feed on Saturday and to my surprise/dismay they are showing the Titans vs Jags game on opening day. Normally they have waited for the Texans to stink it up for a few weeks before pulling the plug. Watch their sorry asses start back peddling when the Texans start showing they are clearly better than the Titans. Screw them. I traded in my Texans season tix for NFL Sunday Ticket this year so they can bite me.

We've been through it all. Calling the station...calling the advertisers...e-mailing the Texans. Nothing worked.

Nobody cares because the Texans don't bring ratings in Austin. The only way that they'll get respect in Austin is if they make the playoffs and the Titans totally tank.

We can count on seeing them twice a year on KEYE for sure.

I am about just fed up with this crap, but the cost from switching to DTV would be higher because of what I have, plus the bundle packages I have for internet and phone.

I am in a no win situation.

Can't get NFLN because they want to charge the cable company and they do not want to pay unless they can charge the customer who wants it versus paying for it and giving to everyone for free.

This is such a huge crock.

Give me through the night. I am going to make a website directly aimed at KEYE. I am ending my cable service and switching to DirecTV.

Why do that, simply create a page about this and we can put it here. This website has great rankings and we would get a lot more exposure here.

It'd be nice if the NFL had something like MLB gameday, where you could watch games on the computer. But Texas residents shouldn't have to resort to that or buying a satellite dish.

I sent my profanity laced e-mail to KEYE. Don't expect anything of it but it helped the anger. Somewhat.

I do not live in Austin.

I thought that the reason the tv station there shows Titan games is because ratings show that all the VY worshipers want to watch him and not the Texans. According to the station, there are more VY worshipers than Texan fans living in Austin.

ps. I am so thankful I do not live in Austin.

1 1/2 more years of school left and i am working on getting in there....I'll fix it:fans: (hopefully)

Profanity laced tirades or emails will not help the cause. If you send a well thoughtout carefully worded email that has a strong tone to it, your point will come across better.

Which is what I did and I also sent one to the Texans but I do not expect anything from them, because they seriously do not give a crap about Austin or San Antonio either.

I sent a polite e-mail last year. Now it's just inexcusable. I probably shouldn't have ended with "eat sh*t", but it's our home opener god damnit.

sometimes it is hard to control anger......but when they see profanity and outrage they would probably immediatly discard the email. However when they see a more professional approach they see a valued insight on something they might be able to improve on. At least thats what they should see. If all else fails get a bag of dog $h!t..light it on fire and put it on the building door step (J/K) :cowboy1:

Yes the took the ratings from one Titans game but it was very skewed as in not a very accurate barometer(sp) on ratings. There were so very iffy circumstance about how they got there numbers.

Might have been a bad choice on words, but if I ever meet Gary A Vincent in person he will know my true feelings about how bad of a job he does and that he can take his sorry good for nothing ass to Nashville and let bud adams Tbag him all he wants.

You're right, however they normally at least wait until the Texans show they are not going to be competitive before making the switch.

BTW, why don't some of you Austinites help me put something together. I want to start a campaign against KEYE on this site. I can create a page that will probably get some decent rankings and exposure.

Austin and Keye's love affair with Vince Young was the reason I switched to DirectTV last year

:doot:

Let me know what I can do to help. I'm game.

If this mean sticking it to keye and making fun of them and hopefully costing them money in advertising, then count me in.

If it is only to piss off Keye program director, that works to.

Maybe you can make an anti keye smilie :user:

This story made the news last year and they interviewed Vincent and he said the rating were better for the Titan's games this last year and the next year (2007) they will carry at least the first few Texan games and see if it will catch on.

I'm so tired of calling KEYE and explaining to them that I'm not buying it, that , no, the decision to carry the Titan game wasn't made in New York and I don't apreciate having my intelligence insulted that way.

OK, I have just created a logo for our anti-KEYE campaign.

Wow, now I'm supremely pissed off. With all the crap about the Titans last year, KEYE did in fact release a statement last year saying they would at least televise the first Texans game. What a load of horsecrap.

Just got a response... another form letter of course:

Thanks for writing to KEYE; we appreciate you taking the time to contact us.

Needless to say, the controversy over KEYE airing the Texans or the Titans is already running at full throttle. This year, like last year, KEYE officially chooses its game assignments 12 days out from the date of the game. Again like last year, we will make those decisions as we go through the season.

Figuring into each decision is the idea that KEYE should attempt to provide the sports programming that the largest number of people in Austin want to see, and at the same time, we would like to offer programming that supports our in-state sports franchises. Like last year, those two goals are often at odds with each other.

One thing we can be sure of is that our decisions either way will unfortunately disappoint a portion of the sports fans in Austin , and we will never please everyone.

Looking at the number of people who chose to watch the various games we aired last year, a couple of trends become apparent. The most obvious is that the Titans games were viewed (chosen) by Austin football fans in far greater numbers than the Texans games.

The common Texans game last year was chosen for viewing by 33,731 households of the 602,340 households in the metro area. That is 61% less than the number of households watching the common Titans game. In truth, the least-watched game on KEYE all season was when the Texans played the Dolphins on Oct 1st. In that game just 15,000 households tuned in. The second least-watched game of the season was also a Texans game with just 23,000 watching.

On the other hand, the least watched Titans game was a throw away on New Years Eve and was watched by almost 36,000 households. On average, Titans games on KEYE last year were viewed by over 56,000 households, with a high over 72,000.

Clearly, our wish to support Texas sports franchises is out of line with our desire to please the largest number of local sports fans we can. Our response to this will be as it was last year – that is, to fairly cover both teams as best as we can. We will make our game choices as we go through the season and will publish our choices in the available programming guides.

Again, thanks for writing to KEYE, please feel free to contact us at any time.

F U KEYE!!

You can't go off of last year. This is a new year and a new team. The Texans WILL be better than the Titans this season, MARK my words. Of course all the bandwagoneers will be back off the Titans and to the Texans once this happens.

Let's all pray for the Madden curse to continue (to affect performance not personal injury of course).

Somebody made a suggestion about hitting the advertising companies that are on KEYE.. Is there any Houston based advertiser on KEYE. If so, they would be the ones that I contact first....

How the hell do they know how many people are watching? No one called or asked me what I was watching. I don't have one of those boxes either.

BTW, how were their ratings Saturday night as the Texans kicked the **** out of the Cowboys? Maybe they should have switched their programming at halftime because you know all the tard Cowboys fans were turning the channel at that point.

No one has ever asked me what I watch, I would like to call those numbers out that is just flat out bull crap. That is really pissing me off.

:wild:

I realize this is an Austin thread, but in checking to see if we're going to see the game here in San Antonio, I see it still says TBA. That's code for Tennessee Broadcasting Association. I've fired off a preemptive email, we'll see what response I get.

I'm looking to see if you guys intend to pull the same stuff you did last year with not showing the Houston Texans. I see the game is still TBA. I hope this isn't a sign that we're going to have to tolerate your lies about not being able to choose the game you show, as you did last year. I contacted CBS last year and was assured the final decision is YOURS to make. So, lets get some honesty going. I'll start. If we see a repeat of the same stuff this year, I assure you we will be putting up an Anti-Kens website, and will persue by all measures within our legal bounds to make your decision a bad one. There are thousands of Texans fans in your viewing area, if you think we're going to sit idly by this year while we're being lied to, well, you couldn't be more wrong. If I'm jumping the gun, my apologies, but my anger hasn't subsided from last years bone headed decisions.

Sincerely,

Absolute total freaking BS!!!!!!
I hate vince young even more than ever now. Once that Madden Jinx gets him, let's see how their 'ratings" are then. These numbers they are putting out are a complete joke. It's obvious that some damn teasip is the GM at the station and he wants to have young on for all his home boy tu cronies.
This SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I will watch a make a list for their local advertisers in the next day or so, and we're gonna start calling these advertisers and telling them, WE WILL NOT SHOP, BUY OR SUPPORT you until you pressure keye to show the LOCAL NFL team.

Thomas,

Thank you for the update regarding not having games aired in Austin. We have a partnership with KEYE-TV to show all of our pre-season games. I’ve placed a call to them and will keep you informed of why the game wasn’t on the air.

The Texans are very interested in having our games aired (both TV & Radio) in Austin as well as running promotions and hosting events in the community. I’m trying to get the interest up so they will agree to partner with us.

Hopefully in the coming weeks and months you will see a vast improvement in Texans coverage. I will continue to work towards getting those partnerships established.
