Kenneth Dixon, RB, LA Tech

Texian

Hall of Fame
Kenneth Dixon, 5'10" 213 LBs. LA Tech

Interesting RB could be a Top 3 RB in 2016 draft, now playing @ Miss St, SEC Network.

Oh wow, Dixon is questionable, not in the starting lineup but could still play.

Texian, you're growing on me.

We're not going to be able to argue this offseason if we like all the same guys..

This yrs David Johnson. I know they need a QB/OT/WR real bad but if this guy is there in rd 2-3 I take him and dont look back. He's got the running skills/agility that are on par or better than Elliott/Henry and can catch the ball like Johnson. CBS has him going in the 2nd rd which is about right.

If it was me I would sign Lamar Miller in FA he's got the speed they were lacking at RB last yr and is a proven pass catcher/pass pro. Then hopefully a RB like Dixon falls to the 3rd/4th rd and the RB position will be solved for the next 7-8 yrs. This is how teams like the Cards attack their weaknesses in the offseason.

tell me why you like Dixon better than Alex Collins

I like Collins almost as much. Dixon has better hands and appears to be a little faster. Collins is a 3 down back. IMHO

How would you feel about a draft of

Rd.1 Wentz
Rd.2 Hunter Henry
Rd.3 Dixon or Collins
Rd.3 Trade back into the 3rd rd for Haeg.

Then sign Ben Watson and Lamar Miller in FA so the young guys would have time to learn. This could happenand Rick Smith could only hope to have an offseason this great.

No thanks at least for now. I cannot mock Wentz until I see him healthy beginning in Senior Bowl and he needs to get lots of opportunities. Also, not as interested in TEs as some as I am adding to our WRs with Docston who catches like Nuk and is amazing. These two with Strong and Mumphery are my guys. Also despite detractors, Fiedo is averaging a first down every catch and was not drafted for that. He is an extra big body to line up outside OT to protect QB. He's not going anywhere. Griffin is getting back into shape and just needs more targets but that is on QB. TE is not on my board.

I'm taking Collins 2nd round. I do like Haeg but go with Willie Beavers in 4th and take Nose in third {Vernon Butler}.

Side note, we should have about $ 27 million in cap (Brees?} and I am looking at cutting Foster $ 7 m and Wilfork $ 4 m June 1st

Seems like a good plan and we're pretty much in agreement, but after the last 2 season of non production from the TE spot I not only want 1 TE but I want 2 TE's. One vet and one rookie. If the Texans have to carry 4 TE's and one less WR/RB so be it.

Agreed on Butler, he looks like a great developmental prospect. Haven't seen Beavers, can you give me info on him?

BTW, Kelvin Taylor, (Fred's son) is coming out. I really like him. The Texans should be able to find an upgrade at RB. (Taylor/Collins/Dixon/Booker/Perkins/Hunt/Drake etc...) should be available in rds 3-5.

Then you've got DeAndre Washington (who I really like as a 3rd down back) Leon Allen/Aaron Green and a RB that was a talented as Gurley as a freshman before tearing his ACL 2 yrs ago Keith Marshall in later rds. RB's always are better in their 2nd yr back from ACL.

Trying to stay away from players with knee or back injuries. I have had Stanford's OT Kyle Myers in third for long time but moved him to round two recently as I think he will be solid. I thought he'd back up and give good rotation among DB and Newton. Our Oline is gonna be ok but needs time together with some plays off that do not lead to QB getting killed. The Nose is messing up my board causing me to lower my choice for OT. Beavers needs NFL coaching and more time to adjust than Murphy, but should be rotational by mid 2016. He is said to have over aggressive punch but I have not seen that. He will be in Bahamas Bowl Christmas Eve and accepted Senior Bowl offer.

The more I watched Barbeque ..er Wilfork the more he appears to no longer be the player he was. To select a NT that could help immediately I looked at Penn St. Austin Johnson but think he might return. Butler is next up for me. So..moved Collins to second and Butler to 3rd.

LT Beaver looked very good in today's bowl (love me some Popeyes!) game. He just does not go backwards unless he wants to. Gets to second level fairly well.

Alex Collins in the 2nd looks pretty to me.

Im surprised there isn't more run here on running back prospects.

yeah do you know much about him? I have followed him a while and until recently mocked him in second. I have some info I just shared in a thread by Texian. He is real deal

I'd be thrilled with Elliott.
I'd be completely happy with Collins in the 2nd/3rd
........ satisfied with Kareem Hunt in the 3rd/4th
........ satisfied with Devontae Booker in the 3rd/4th
.... enjoy picking up Kenyan Drake in the 3rd/4th as a 3rd down back
.... enjoy picking up Paul Perkins in the 4th/5th as a 3rd down back

Haven't seen enough from Dixon that compelled me to want to get him. Nothing terribly negative, just nothing standing out from the guys I already named.

All i know is scouting reports and highlight videos.I was most impressed with him after watching all the top guys.

Appears to be a good kid to.

What pulled me in was his three consecutive years over 1000 yds and against primo teams. 1500 yards and 20 TDs this season and was SEC freshman of 2013 AND led all freshmen on NCAA. He was not the sole back either. I love watching him run and his motor.

His highlight reel was something like 14 minutes long. Looks like he consistently makes plays....

And thats what i want. Only just starting to explore video on prospects- intrigued by guys like Braxton and drake as well. Looking to add some lightning to our offense.

Dixon runs angry and it's fun to watch...I just dont know how long a career he can have with that style.

OK! You got me there. Is this a new drill or do they just record the speed at intervals along an old drill distance?

In the 40 there's an overall time and a 10 yd. split time.

Derrick Henry had something like a 141 score at the Nike high school senior sparq trials..2nd best in the nation...expect Dixon and Henry will both shoot up boards after the combine think he had a 41 vertical

There are two times for the 40, the first is a 10yd split and the familiar 40. A sub 1.50 10 shows tremendous burst, a quick first step, ability to explode thru holes, gets to top speed early (Emmitt Smith). The main reason I wanted the Texans to draft Clay Matthews III, he had a 1.49 10 so I knew he would be a very ggod pass rusher, better than Cushing and he is. If Dixon runs a 1.54 10 he's likely just another back but he does show great speed in short area so I'm optimistic.

agree 100% love 10 yard splits but quick feet for jump cuts also matter for rb's...rb's are hard for me to evaluate because eyes, vision and instincts also matter. 1st time I saw Dixon(I'm from St Louis) I said WOW! Marshall Faulk..that jump cut brought back those old memories

Problem with Henry is that he is a straight line runner. When forced to change direction he kills all of his momentum.

Clemson game was very telling. They gave him a crease right up the middle on that TD run and he blew right through it. Once in the open field he was gone because straight line he is almost unstoppable. Rest of the game they made him work sideline to sideline instead of north-south. He averaged 3.1 ypc on his other 35 carries in the game.

definitely needs a launching pad but so did Jerome Bettis(barely avg 3 ypc carry here in st Louis 3.2/3.5 avg) and he is in the hof..and Franco didn't have Fred Astaire feet

IMO a top player but will really needs to play on a team with a very good oline

does things I haven't seen since Jim Brown..old enough and lucky enough to have watched him play

and he runs upright which doesn't work as well in the NFL.

don't want to rufffle any feathers but really like your Ephesians 6:12 quote

also don't sleep on the next guys...btw no team uses sparq scores more then the Seahawks and they badly need a rb..might be Henry's new home

IMO all 5 will be solid starters
Kelvin Taylor 5'10 205 Florida junior 2nd/3rd great burst, vision and instincts dad was Fred Taylor

5. DeVontae Booker 5'11 212 Utah 2nd #5 rated rb pff very good rb quick feet, good hands, fast

6. Jonathan Williams 5'11 219 3rd Arkansas strong NFL body , has some elusiveness great #2 back with starter ability

7. Jordan Howard 6'1 225 3rd Indiana UAB transfer big back back with the speed/quickness of a small back and still carries a wallop

8. CJ Prosise 3rd/4th 6'1 220 big, 2nd gear, battles, runs too upright, good not great feet, fast, good receiver struggles to cut note elite but still a solid #1

Had a chance to really watch a couple of rbs, Collins and Elliot. If it were me, I would take collins over elliot everyday, all day. What I see out of elliot is a gap runner, similar to Richardson. Not saying he's going to be bad like that, but I dont see him make people miss in the hole. Most of the time, his ol has created a canyon before he even gets to the 2nd level. In the nfl, we know you dont get gaps like that.
Collins on the other hand has the shiftiness inside small gaps. He has nice explosion in short space and he finishes runs well. He has really good balance and very rarely gets hit flush and go down. Jmo from my film watching.

I agree on how you describe both but do have Elliott ranked first round. I think EZ is better receiving passes. I think we can get Collins in second and if gone Dixon should still be there.
