Texans wanted to sign FS Kendrick Lewis but he didn't want to be a backup to Rahim Moore and signed with Ravens.

Not much. Average player at best. RT:@rvngirl==> thoughts on Kendrick Lewis to Baltimore?

The thread title is false advertising! I'm getting a lawyer!
Oh, my bad. Apologies. Just grabbed the first Lewis thread returned in a search.

He will be a back up regardless. Will Hill is expected to start at one safety spot next season, as safety Darian Stewart, who started 14 games last season, signed with the Broncos on Friday.

Matt Elam, a first-round pick in 2013, struggled last season, while 2014 third-round pick Terrence Brooks saw his rookie season cut short by a knee injury.

Oh well. It's not as if Rick Smith has had a problem finding good safeties in the draft. #shilohkeo

Stewart is a Bronco

I'm a bit gutted at this news tbh. Felt that resigning Lewis would have forced Swaggboi to up his game a few notches. We had huge issues at both S positions for long periods of our history and now, as much as I like the Moore signing, we've let a steady player walk out the door who may well have won a starting job.

Couldn't force him to stay. We upgraded the position, he didn't like his chances and went to a team with a worse backfield situation. Sucks, but that's "free" agency.

Totally agree with you on this, and who knows if Swearinger can have a lightbulb moment during this offseason he has the tools to be a great player, just that it's asking a lot for him to cut out the bonehead mistakes. It's clear that RAC feels hes the man at this point so I'm happy to roll with that.

Not sure we can remove the "bonehead" from DJ, but perhaps our new FS Rahim Moore can help -- he calls DJ (and Kareem Jackson) good friends of his.

Im happy- had to do something....Matt Elam is not the answer at either position and will probably be out of football by 2017...

haven't found a good one since Ed (Gulp) Reed left for the Texans in 2013

Got a solid player. A bit better in run support than coverage, few dumb mistakes.

For those who might be interested:
The Baltimore Sun obtained a copy of the contract, which includes a $1.4 million signing bonus.

Lewis got nonguaranteed base salaries of $800,000 in 2015, $1.4 million in 2016 and $1.8 million in 2017.

He has a manageable first-year salary cap figure of $1.26 million and a 2016 salary-cap figure of $1.866 million.

Yep! I guess if you're going to lose a guy you want, losing him because he's not good enough to start for you is about the best reason for that I can think of.

Honestly, I think he would've gotten a lot of snaps. But he wanted to be called "starter", even though that's pretty meaningless these days on the back end with so much nickel and dime played.

But I'll miss his sure tackling.

Kendrick - Thanks for your contributions as a Texan
