Just wondering....

Ok...here's a crazy thought. If we don't go for Young early in the draft, what do ya'll think about grabbing a QB with one of the third round picks? Yes, we have soooo many other needs, but this is a move that Casserly likes to make. Kind of like the "what the h...." move he made drafting Ragone a year after drafting Carr. And yes, I know that Casserly is not going to have the final say as he has in the past. Again, we have other areas of need, but when you think about it, if Carr doesn't improve, what then? Rely on Ragone or Banks as our future? I'm thinking if they have a QB rated higher than other positions, they may select a QB at that time.

I don't necessarily agree with it if it happens because of our needs, but I would not be surprised if that's something they would do. Anyway, just throwing it out there and let me know what you think....

This team is terrible in every facet of the game.I would spend this offseason upgrading all 8 layers of the team.Starting at QB,I would either draft Vince Young or pickup a FA at value with a chance to start.I think Tim Hasselbeck would be a good fit for a Kubiak offense. He has just as much experence on the league as Carr and could really put some heat on him for the starting job.I could see going after Reggie McNeil as a WR/QB just to tinker with but I don't see this team developing a Brody Croyle. If we upgrade every area we should see results from the hard work in the offseason.ST is maybe the only area I see that is acceptable. We can do it if we take the right approach and we can be very competive. The most important thing is to improve in all areas from 30 rank.If they follow my plan on defense i'm sure with Sherman helping we should be ranked atleast 15th by seasons end but could possibly be as high as number 5.You upgrade all these positions and will be better in 2006.Right now we need atleast 2 43 DE and 2 43 LBer that have experence. Then if we could upgrade the secondary with top CB and maybe Chris Hope,we won't be the same defense you seen in 2005!I'm not talking big money i'm taking .HoldmanTommy Polly,Keith Adams,Kampman,Bosch,,just get atleast a few vet to keep us a float. We can upgrade in the draft.I doubt we would ever get Hasselbeck for vet min but its worth a good pitch! All areas of the defense was the worst in the league..THE WORST!Run Pass Big play, everything I looked at was bottom barrell. It won't be hard to improve but it will take a lot of work to be top ten and maybe not as much money as we think.6 players ain't nothing to changing a whole defense.Right now our defensive speed is to slow...

Upgrades
QBs 60
RBs 70
WRs 70
TEs 60
OL 65
DL 40
LBers 30
Secondary 69

Total defense 31 rank
Pass defense 24 rank
Rush defense 32 rank
Receiving defense 16 rank
Scoring defense 32 rank
turnover defense 26 rank (We were at the very bottom in ints and Forced Fumbles)

Total offense 30 rank
Passing offense 30 rank
rushing offense 15 rank that still needs improved
Receiving offense 27 rank
Scoring offense 27 rank

Its not any one players fault, its everyones fault.

It will be interesting to see what all Kubiak and Cass can do to help us,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,:texflag:

If it was my team I would sign a few LBers for a year to stop the bleeding, sign a solid CB so I could roll coverage,,,maybe get a vet fs safety we know can play a cover 2.

Offense i'd draft another RB,WR,OL,TE,and pick up a QB to push if not draft Vince Young. As much as were paying a center we could upgrade pretty easy for not much more.We have a lot invested in a line to be in a position were in.I don't think its the talent I think its the heart and Vince would be a big impact there..

I don't see them adding a QB in the draft. If they are going to bring in a new QB I think it will be a veteran that is better than Tony Banks, an experienced guy that can help mentor Carr and give some veteran leadership if necessary rather than bringing in another young QB that doesn't know the NFL game. As for bringing in someone to "seriously challenge" Carr for the starting spot, I'm not sure I see that happening either. It's not that I don't want them to, but if you sign Carr to that kind of money, I think (as they've said multiple times) that they expect him to be the man, so I don't see them bringing in someone that they think will take the starting spot from him and drop our $8 million a year QB to the bench. That isn't necessarily "right", but that's the way things generally happen as this is a business. They need a better veteran guy than Tony Banks in case Carr does get injured, or he really stinks up the place and they have to bench him for part of a game or more, and to provide a little bit of that competitive edge and some tutelage to Carr, but they aren't going to pay the money to bring in a guy that could seriously take Carr's starting, it would be expensive to find a free agent that could do that and that undermines their whole stance on Carr being their guy. They aren't trying to make Carr sweat it out about winning his job, they're trying to give him the rest of the tools around him to elevate his game and let him concentrate on doing his job, learning our offense, and elevating his play to the level we need it at. I have no problem with them bringing in a more capable backup "insurance plan", but I don't expect to see them bring a guy in that will take Carr's spot.

We may be able to get by with just one DE AND 2 or 3 43 lbers..Its sucide because we won't get top talent on the market at value but If we have like 14 million plus a few cuts at LB to add cap.I'll tell you right now the LBs on the market won't be answer but they could be solid.

I figure a cap charge of
Proven 43 players
3 MIL DE
3 MIL DE
866 43WLB
866 43SLB
866 43MLB
4 mil CB for the future,,young and upcoming! We don't need to deal witrh a rookie in the secondary this year.We still need Buchanon for our nickel
stop gap Safety

And will have one heck of a start on defense.Maybe we just go one defensive end and see how it works.LBs one or 2 year deals. Its going to be tough enough putting proven players from the same system and it working...Its could jell!Peak has the speed to play in the 43,he borderline but if he can cover TEs he'll make it other wise the LBers are going to be fighting for A DE spot...We can play a lot of zone this first year to help us but the coaches are going to have there work cut out for them.I just hope we have the talent on the team with Orr and a few others..If you guys want to just go into the season with the same 34 it would be cheaper but you may get the same result!Just by adding a few Speedy LBer AND SS/LBs we will be able to setup a 34 also if we can run both..We can keep part of the 34 to fall back on till we get rolling but Parcells didn't run any 43 when he switch to the 34.He did have a whole draft and 2 first and traded a 3rd this year to do it though.Parcells was also working toward it all along. That why the defense dropped the year he went 6 and 10.We had no 43 depth. You may see some 43 this year but who knows,,,,I'm ready to see this team come together and make some noise!

You are not even vaguely on topic for this thread. You have a whole thread of your own for how to transform the team. Please help us keep the MB organized by staying on topic for the threads.

I think the only way they pick up Qb's are the duel threats. They may add a guy who projects as a WR in the NFL like the Aggie Qb , cant remember his name, to play WR first and maybe be the third stringer. That lets you handle #3 Qb and #4-5 WR with just one roster spot, but I dont see them adding a high qb with a high draft pick.
