Just a honest question, dd Mcnair even like football before he bought a team?

I remember something about he purchased this football team for the city of houston, he wants to quote "give something back to houston" I think i recall that he did not even like football very much: do i stand corrected? I believe i saw a post or something that said he did this for a friend / family member that past away, not sure but its nice to see that mcnair is getting involved now.
 
Not sure about the not liking football - but he did try at first to get an NHL team here.
 
I am sure he had to like football in order to put up over $700 million to get a team here. I'm not sure how closely he followed stats and standings and all the other things that football fanatics do but I have to believe that he liked football and had some understanding of it to make that kind of investment. He is a good businessman (obviously if he had that kind of money to put into this) so I'm sure he would not use that kind of money for something that he didn't somewhat understand and like enough that he wanted to spend all that money and take an active part in owning a team.
