Joppru Update

Number19

Hall of Fame
As reported in today's Chronicle, Bennie Joppru is eligible to begin practice starting Monday the 17th. The team has until Nov 29th to decide if he is in good enough shape to play this year and to include him in practice. Once Joppru begins practice, he can do so for 3 weeks before the team has to decide whether to activate him or place him on injured reserve.

Joppru is currently running, but not doing any cutting. IMO, he should continue with his own rehab thru Sunday the 27th. He should start practice the 28th and should be activated for the last three games of the season. This would give him a good head start on the off season, looking toward the mini-camps and next years training camp. If he reinjures himself this year, during practice or the final three games, he should be released. And of course, if the coaches feel he is ready, this schedule could be accelerated..

I agree. No need to rush back only to get injured in what looks like a down year.

And yes, if he gets injured again during the last three, say "bye-bye" as fast as possible.

ACL is tough to recover from. When it tears, it unravels like a piece of rope. This ligament connects your femur(thigh) bone to your fibula(shin) bone.
It is caused by cutting hard in either direction, by stopping suddenly, or by jumping.

Just out of curiousity, when is Joppru's option year? He's been down for 3 years now, and he couldn't have signed longer than a 4 year contract, would he?

Just wondering when he's due to be paid the "pro-bowl" money.

I'm sure he is trying just as hard as he can to get back on the field. I would be in favour of his prudent yet aggressive rehab schedule. it would be nice to see something and have a clue as to what we could have in store for the future at the TE position before the conclusion of this season.

If I recall correctly the salary situation it is really minimal compared to a lot of others. With this coaching staff and the way this season is going I would hope they would say its simply not worth it. This kind of injury simply needs time and I would love to have what his potential is without having to draft another person to fill it. It would even be nice to draft another person and be able to field 2 people for that position. I believe that's called depth. Its good to hear that he is even thinking about being out there. But, NO, its simply not worth it.

We have so missed a player at TE with Joppru's kind of talent and potential
to contribute to our offense, but we'd be foolish to expect him to be here
healthy and contribute so we surely will Draft a TE or acquire one in FA.

Both my brothers had torn ligaments when they played high school sports. One had his ACL almost completely severed. In both cases, the best thing for the injury was rest and time. So I agree with you completely. There is no reason to push a player to return to the game when you are 0-4. Better to have a TE next year when hopefully we've picked up one or two more good players.

Well the way I see it Joppru should begin practice as scheduled on the 17th. That gives him until the 29th of November to somehow become injured once again and I think that going ahead and trying to make it back in time to see the field at all in 2005 will give him a heck of head start on his next off-season injury.

I know we're all pulling for him. Just not too hard. You know how easy this guy pulls stuff.

I was just thinking, maybe we should let him play the last 3 games of the season if he is cleared to do so. Could let us know if TE should be a priority in the draft/free agency.
