That all said, I don’t believe that the Texans draft a QB at Number one; I’ve said that for months. Now, I can see a scenario... where the Texans stay in the top eight and select Manziel or Bortles...

Manziel is the ultimate playmaker with a competitive streak to match the one O’Brien possesses... can be allergic to the pocket at times and not throw his receivers open as well as other weaknesses.

Bortles is the best combination of size, playmaking, arm strength and toughness in this quarterback draft class... throwing mechanics and footwork need some work

Bridgewater is my second ranked quarterback as I think his cerebral football nature and IQ are quite attractive... how his...body will hold up and his overall consistency... Pro Day...raised a few red flags...his Louisville game tape... squelche..that worry.
...
Mettenberger is coming off an ACL tear in the team’s regular season finale in late November. Without that injury, there’s little question that Mettenberger’s name could be heard on Thursday night and not Friday night. It still may, thanks to that cannon.
...
Savage... has a howitzer and he played in a pro style attack, yet he was inconsistent, often inaccurate with ball placement.
...
Logan Thomas... Inconsistency, scattershot accuracy, coaching changes and limited offensive skill player resources all plagued Thomas over the last two years. But, he throws the ball as effortlessly as any quarterback in the draft.
...
Wenning caught my attention in his junior year. He seems to have the characteristics typically found in next level quarterbacks.

Fales doesn’t have the arm many in this class have but his ball placement and accuracy are on par with the best I’ve seen at the college level.

Don't sleep on Wenning as a developmental guy. And Fales is a guy Matt Waldman tabbed months ago.

Big fan of Wenning. Small school player but four year starter. Got tons better each year. I'd give him a look starting with our comp pick in the 4th and at any point after. Depends on how the first four picks go though.

2014 Pro Days: Nebraska's Taylor Martinez works out at QB, WR, DB
With 28 evaluators from 23 NFL teams in attendance, quarterback Taylor Martinez, who wasn't invited to the NFL Combine, performed drills on Thursday at Nebraska's on-campus pro day. Considered a better athlete than polished passer, Martinez showed off his speed in drills and also some versatility by working out not only at quarterback, but also wide receiver and defensive back.

Recently recovered from a foot injury that ended his 2013 season, Martinez ran his 40-yard dash in the mid-4.4 range with some stopwatches as low as 4.41. He also recorded a 3.83 in the short shuttle, 39-inch vertical jump and 10-foot-9 broad jump...

Patriots Slot WR Julian Edelman was a college QB.

Having watched Martinez, I would put his football IQ as Vince Young-like

Good luck to him I guess.

Glad he has finished at Nebraska

Texans OL Draft Board
John Harris | Texans Analyst

Draft Options
1st - T Greg Robinson - Auburn, T/C Jake Matthews - Texas A&M
2nd - T/G Xavier Su’a Filo - UCLA, T/G Joel Bitonio - Nevada
3rd - G Trai Turner - LSU, T/G Jack Mewhort - Ohio State, T/G Billy Turner - North Dakota State
4th - T Cameron Fleming - Stanford, T/G/C Wesley Johnson - Vanderbilt, T/G Dakota Dozier - Furman, G Jon Halapio - Florida
5th - T/G Matt Patchan - Boston College, G John Urschel - Penn State
6th - T Laurent Duvernay-Tardif - McGill (Canada), G Kevin Danser - Stanford, G Kadeem Edwards - Tennessee State
7th - G Trey Hopkins - Texas

UDFA - G Kevin Pamphile - Purdue

One of the most intriguing linemen in this draft is Su’a Filo from UCLA... more than likely the best guard prospect on the board and perhaps as highly rated as the fifth best tackle prospect.

Bitonio shows flashes where I think he could be a top 50 prospect and other times when he’s a late day two project. He completely shut down UCLA star OLB Anthony Barr... however, Boise State DE Demarcus Lawrence gave Bitonio headaches...

Trai Turner is young and strong, yet needs some technique work...

Billy Turner dominated lower-level competition throughout his three years at FCS three-time champ North Dakota State.

Fleming played for a nasty, physical Stanford squad...

Johnson is much better in game situations than he’ll ever be in one-on-one practice...

Furman’s Dozier who, as a left tackle, shut down Clemson star DE Vic Beasley...

Once O’Brien was hired, I figured it was a lock that Urschel would end up in Houston playing for his former head coach. A math savant and one of the smartest football players on the planet, Urschel isn’t a guy that buries defenders, yet has experience in this offense and is a sound football player.

Canadian Duvernay-Tardif... he’s got quick feet and the right dimensions to be a right tackle, but it’ll take him a year to find his way in the NFL.

Texans D-Line Draft Board

...As such, it goes without saying that the Texans will add a defensive lineman in this draft, perhaps even linemen. Note for most of the options below the slash marks, indicating the ability to play different defensive line positions. If that duality wasn’t a priority in the past, it definitely is now and will be for the foreseeable future. The good news is that there are solid options for the Texans throughout this entire draft.
