Joe Thomas

ESPN Cleveland (Tony Grossi) is reporting that the Browns will trade Thomas on or before the draft. Looks like a full house cleaning for the Browns.

Cut Hoyer and that gives 15 mil in cap space. I would give up a 1st for Thomas.

I remember that. They tried to trade him to the Broncos before the trading deadline this past season. The NFL Network had reported a deal was close but then it broke down in the final few minutes before the trade deadline.

Joe Thomas, at this point, doesn't want to play in Cleveland anymore. Who can blame him?

He's 31 years old now: 9-time pro bowler, 6-time first team All Pro. He's a future Hall of Famer. One of the best left tackles in our league for a long time. Elite in every sense of the world.

How's his injury history though? I'd give up the #22 pick in round one in a heart beat for him. But we have to make sure he can play at an elite level for at least four or five more years.

I don't want another Tony Boseli.
A dominant Left Tackle who's damaged goods or something.

And plus, have we all given up on Duane Brown or do you envision him making a move to right tackle, to ease his injury concerns moving forward?

I wouldn't mind if the Texans trade for Joe Thomas. But he's pretty pricey. The Seahawks, are reportedly interested. I don't want to be involved in a bidding war, giving up too much in a trade.

If I were Rick Smith, I'd make that call to the Browns GM. It doesn't hurt to talk and at least see what their asking price is. I'd want to see his medical records, obviously, if something became more serious in a trade.

Seems too good to be true for an elite left tackle to be traded. Given our history at the position, prior to Duane Brown, I'm just nervous is all. LOL.

I just don't want to get my hopes up for nothing. I remember when we drafted Tony Boseli in the expansion draft (how excited I was). Or when we came close to acquiring Orlando Pace that one off-season (we were prepared to lose two first-round picks for him before the Rams decided to pay him the bank and keep him). Two of the greatest O-Lineman I had ever seen play the game back in the day, only to be let down in the end.

If we pursued him in a trade, Joe Thomas would be the third greatest O-Lineman to ever play the game that we tried to bring in here. The first two didn't pan out. Maybe the third time is the charm?

I just don't know if it's worth it. I still believe in Duane Brown.
I'm okay with the Seahawks or some other team trading for him.

You don't need the greatest Left Tackle in the game to win Super Bowls. If that were the case, Joe Thomas and the Browns would have some rings. You can win with good left tackles. They don't have to be the best in the game.

I'd rather trade for speedy and explosive wide receiver, Josh Gordon. He was emerging as one of the best playmakers and wideouts in the league two seasons ago prior to his year-long suspension last year. He's still only 24 years old. He's from Houston too.

Imagine how explosive our offense would be with DeAndre Hopkins and Josh Gordon? Think 1999 Rams or even the 1998 Vikings. Our passing game would become something special like that, IMO.

When people talk about the best passing attacks of all-time.
The 2016 Texans would enter that prestige list. It would be special.

If the Browns are having a fire sale, I'll take Houston native Josh Gordon. He's only 24 years old. His prime years are ahead of him. He's not 31 with some of his best years behind him like Joe Thomas.

Josh Gordon is one banana peel away from out of the NFL.
He's also motivated and ready for a monster year in 2016. He's changed his life around. Wherever he plays this year he'll dominate. I'm not too worried about him.

There was a good story about him a few weeks back talking about how it's been a long and tough process dealing with his addictions. He had to change the people he hung out with and give up all of his bad habits. A total lifestyle change.

It's hard not to cheer for the guy.
At least he's been working hard to change.
He's also been keeping in great fitness shape.
Working out at the Baylor campus with the football team.

Only thing is I think he's in a bad situation in Cleveland. How happy is he going to be in the long run putting up monster stats on a very bad team that keeps trying to find a new starting quarterback every other year?

Although, the Browns could be wise to trade him next year at this time. Let him show he has his head on straight, and that he's still an elite level young talent. A year of 1,700 receiving yards and 10+ TDs, with mediocre quarterbacks would certainly increase his trade value from where it is right now.

Unlike Johnny Manziel (who has shown very little in the NFL), it appears Josh Gordon is serious about his NFL comeback. Kudos to him. Hopefully it pans out for him. Josh Gordon, the last time he was playing in an NFL game, was one of the most exciting playmakers in the league. This is an elite level talent.

The NFL is all about young talent. Older talent, even elite level talent, scares me. I'm a little hesitant about Joe Thomas. I think his best days are behind him. Maybe he has three or four All Pro years left. An elite left tackle, if healthy, can play at a high level into their mid '30s so he may be worth a first-round pick.

So now he's hanging out with Johnny Manziel

In 2010 as a sophomore at Baylor, Gordon was arrested with teammate and future Texans legend Willie Jefferson for passing out in their car at the drive thru of a Taco Bell. They were both high. Jefferson was sent packing to SFA and Gordon was suspended.

In 2011 he failed a drug test and was suspended. He missed the window to enter the supplemental draft so he transferred to Utah and sat out the entire season. He then entered the supplemental draft in 2012.

Miraculously, he wasn't suspended at all in 2012.

In 2013 he was suspended two games for failing a drug test.

In the summer of 2014 he got a DWI. Then one month later he failed a drug test and was suspended for 10 games. One month after he was reinstated the Browns suspended him for a violation of team rules.

In 2015 he was suspended for the entire season after failing a test for alcohol, which he was banned from using per the terms of his probation for the DWI.

By the start of next season he will have caught 24 NFL passes over the last three years. And he still hasn't been officially reinstated yet.

But he's turned his life around. And I believe him yo. What wouldn't I? He's only faced at least one suspension in five of the last six years...

Technically speaking, Johnny Manziel hadn't been released by the Browns yet when Josh Gordon hung out with him at that UFC event a couple weekends ago. The two of them were under contract with the Cleveland Browns.

It's not unheard of for a quarterback and wide receiver on the same team to develop a good relationship together off the field. Especially when Gordon wasn't spending much time with him on the field last season (suspended). I would imagine Gordon will spend a lot of time, on and off the field, with whomever the next Browns starting quarterback is.

So? Everybody in the world knows Manziel's troubles. That is not a good display of his supposed new found responsibility.

Josh Gordon is not going to be a Texan. Just ain't happening.

It wouldn't hurt to give Thomas a looksee and find out what he thinks he's worth. Doesn't mean we have to pull the trigger on a deal.
Josh Gordon...? I'm not convinced his head is on straight.

Just like people were telling me Brock Osweiler wouldn't be either, but I mentioned it as likely to happen nearly a month ago. Way before the free agent process even began. Everybody kept telling me, "No way the Broncos would let him go."

I'm not saying it's going to happen but to rule it out is a bit silly. We don't really know what's going to happen. And was he not a top three WR in the league a few years ago? First-team All Pro in 2013. Only WR you could argue was better was Calvin Johnson, who just retired.

He's still 24. Turns 25 in April I believe.

That was a money issue. This is a character issue. Take your pompoms from in front of your eyes.

We need another explosive wide receiver to pair with DeAndre Hopkins. I'm not sure what this draft will net us. I'd rather trade for a known commodity, who's still young, if given a chance. We could potentially have two of the top five wide receivers in the game if we traded for Josh Gordon. You don't want the Texans passing attack to become special?

I would give up a 6th rd pick for him,

In his junior year in college, he underwent the only surgery of his football career. Then in the NFL,
Joe Thomas reveals he's had three torn MCLs, two high ankle sprains with Browns............these were all prior to his 2013 season..........then various muscle tears and a relatively minor LCL strain...............he essentially played through all of his NFL injuries.....................never missing a single game in 9 seasons.

The major question with DB is whether he can make it back and play ANY position after quad tendon rupture surgery.[Only 50% of players come back to play a single regular season game after having sustained this injury. Although as a study has shown, being a 1st rounder may make it somewhat more likely that he is part of that 50%]

A known commodity? Only thing Gordon is known for is getting high and suspended. You're saying you want to trade assets for this useless player?
