Houstons decision to select defensive end Mario Williams over Reggie Bush in last April's draft will be a hot topic around the league for many years to come. However, the entire Texans rookie class has exceeded most expectations and head coach Gary Kubiak hopes that this experience will enhance their prospects for years to come.
When you look at DeMeco Ryans, Owen Daniels and Mario (Williams), those kids have been starters and even leaders for our football team, so its a lot to ask, Kubiak said. Im hoping they go from year one to about year four next year and skip year two and three. Hopefully the ability to play at such a young age helps them progress much quicker.
On accomplishing what he wanted to in his first season
We still have a long way to go. If you look from a football perspective, when you come in, you teach your system on both sides of the ball. You have to make a decision when you start the season, how big a grasp your football team has on everything. I wouldnt say that on either side of the ball that weve gotten everything done that we wanted to get done. Well continue to work on that this season. Weve made progress, I see us getting better, but were judged on wins and losses and thats not good right now, so we have a ways to go from that standpoint. I like the way our football team is preparing to play, our effort has been extremely good. Our football hasnt been real clean, but when it has been clean, we give ourselves a chance to win
