Jeremy Cash, Safety, Duke

This guy is a talented player and he does everything pretty well. Excels at play toward and attacking the line of scrimmage, so maybe more of a box guy. He was the ACC defensive player of the year and also an all american. I think we should look at him as a potential second or third round pick.

If the offense didn't stink so bad I would agree with you. Cash is my #2 rated safety behind Ramsey.

I'm hoping Smith realizes he needs to add a QB/RB/OT/WR/TE with speed. Most of the draft capital should be spent there. However if Cash is BPA I will be on board with the pick. Great player

Safety is a position of need, with all the other positions that you've listed. I wouldn't be confused by a safety in the second round, as long as we take a QB in round 1.

Definitely a box player but is a bit more versatile than other box Safeties like Barron or Collins. He's not great in coverage but he can hold his own unlike those two.

Interesting that he's considered a 2nd round prospect by most while Barron/Collins were considered 1st rounders despite being deeply flawed prospects. Funny how that happens. Put Cash in an Alabama jersey and he's probably getting top 20 hype right now.

Well, he broke his wrist and is getting surgery. That's why I have him in round 2 or even 3 if he doesn't test well.

So, on draft day I had Cash as a third round, maybe (if your lucky) 4th round pick.

He went undrafted and was picked up by the Panthers.

I knew he was limited in coverage but he seemed fit for a hybrid S/LB role, as he did play that type of role for Duke at times. He had the accolades and character to go along with it.

What happened?

Like someone (you?) said in another thread, we the fans do not have access to all the information that the scouts and teams do.

OTOH, it may be that he was just overlooked.

I read somewhere that a lot of teams took him off their board due to medical/injury concerns. I'm not sure what the deal is though.

Same thing happened with Cody Prewitt last year. A lot of people liked him, myself included. I liked him a whole lot actually. He does undrafted. Reports come out that he has an injury issue. Tennessee picks him up. He gets hurt on the first day of camp and misses the entire season.
