JC's Mock Draft

JCTexan

Hall of Fame
I wanted to do a mock before the draft tomorrow. Hope you enjoy:

Round 1, Pick 1: Jadeveon Clowney - DE - South Carolina

Best player in the draft. We would have two absolute beasts at DE with Clowney & Watt.

Round 2, Pick 33: Jimmy Garoppolo - QB - Eastern Illinois

Excellent passing vision with quick eyes to scan and a quick, natural delivery. Smart and executes the offense well. Quick feet to evade pressure and very good touch and overall placement. Level-headed and always under control with a strong leadership presence. Elite production as a four-year starter at the FCS level.

Round 3, Pick 65: Billy Turner - OT - North Dakota State

Athletic with good shuffle to protect the edge, staying light on his feet to mirror. Good set up quickness, patience and reflexes with body coordination and bend. Strong at the point of attack with powerful initial jolt. Looks to punish and plays with a mean, nasty temperament. Energetic finisher and plays through the whistle.

Round 4, Pick 101: Justin Ellis - DT - Louisiana Tech

Sitting at a squatty 6'1", 350 lbs, Ellis looks every single pound of that on tape. He looks like Vince Wilfork against La Tech's lesser competition: constant push in the passing game and absolute domination between the tackles. He looked outstanding at the East/West game, as well.

Round 4, Pick 135: Anthony Steen - OG - Alabama

Possesses a thick, compact frame ideal for winning leverage battles in the trenches. Surprisingly quick, both when asked to slide laterally in pass protection, as well as when coming off the line downhill in second-level pursuit. Fundamentally and technically solid in pass protection exhibiting patience to sit, punch and slide with good pad. Keeps his head on a swivel and displays good awareness.

Round 5, Pick 141: Terrence Mitchell - CB - Oregon

Sports a lean, athletic frame with long arms and a gambling mentality that can result in big plays. Fluid hips to change directions and shows good acceleration out of his turns to run with receivers across the middle or downfield. Alert defender who reads the quarterback and receiver, responding well when the ball is in the air. Very confident in his ability to close.

Round 6, Pick 177: Andre Williams - RB - Boston College

Williams is thickly-built with terrific balance to pick up yards after contact, lowering his pads and driving forward for every yard he can get. Shows good build up speed and enough quickness to pick his way through the crowd. Was a workhorse for Boston College, to the tune of 2,177 yards last year.

Round 6, Pick 181: Zack Kerr - DT - Delaware

If there was ever a poor man's Dontari Poe, you're getting pretty close to him with Kerr. Kerr is a surprising athletic man for somebody who's 6'1", 326 lbs. He's got a complete skillset. This guy has future Pro Bowl written all over him.

Round 6, Pick 211: Colt Lyerla - TE - Oregon

Physical marvel with excellent athleticism, good hand-eye coordination and toughness after the catch. Possesses impressive straight-line speed, as well as the agility and balance to operate in space. Attacks defenders as a run-blocker.

Round 7, Pick 216: Nat Berhee - SS - San Diego State

Good awareness. Reads the quarterback and steps towards the plays as it unfolds. Light feet and fluid hips allowing him to change directions quickly showing natural coverage skills. Breaks on the ball well. Avoids blockers, showing good flexibility to slip past them and make physical tackles in the open field.

Round 7, Pick 256: Jeoffrey Pagan - DE - Alabama

Built like a Coke machine (6-4, 310 lbs)- wide and heavy - and is just as difficult to move. Anchors well at the point of attack due to size and strength. Pops the offensive lineman with a strong initial punch and shows good patience to wait for the running back to come to him. Active hands and shows surprising burst to close when he gets a free lane. Good recognition of where the ball is going and pursues with passion.

Solid draft. Realistic values and met position needs.

I don't think Clowney is as great a fit for Crennel as others do. But I do think he is the most physically talented player in the draft. Can't hate the pick.

I want to like Garoppolo but I'm starting to falter. He is too skittish for me. If that is coachable I'm all in.

Love Turner.

Love Ellis.

Like Steen. Good depth player.

I like Mitchell but his lack of athleticism will be a problem.

Not a Williams fan but at this spot how can you complain?

Love Kerr.

I'm not that high on Lyerla but he's worth a flyer at this point. Fits the system.

Don't think Berhe is NFL quality but we're talking 7th round here.

Pagan is a good depth player.

Thanks for the comment. A realistic mock draft was the main thing I was aiming for.

I actually agree with you. Mack would fit the Texans 3-4 defense better, but
if Houston decides to stay at #1 Clowney is the type of talent you change your scheme for.

I want to like Garoppolo but I'm starting to falter. He is too skittish for me. If that is coachable I'm all in.

I won't try to sell you on Garoppolo but if the Texans bypass QB in the first round I think they're probably a lock to be taking one at #33. Garoppolo is my favorite that is likely to still be available (Bridgewater, Bortles, Manziel, Carr likely will all be gone). My sleeper pick would be Tom Savage.

Love Turner.

Love Ellis.

Like Steen. Good depth player.

Love Kerr.

As do I. :D

I like Mitchell but his lack of athleticism will be a problem.

Most 5th round picks will have problems. I see him starting out as the #4 CB that the coaches can hopefully mold.

Not a Williams fan but at this spot how can you complain?

I see Williams as a short yardage, goal-line back. He's a bruiser that fights for yards. That seems to be worth a 6th rounder to me.

I'm not that high on Lyerla but he's worth a flyer at this point. Fits the system.

Yeah, I see him as a 4th-5th rounder that will drop a bit because of his off the field issues. He could be quite the steal for a late 6th.

Don't think Berhe is NFL quality but we're talking 7th round here.

Pagan is a good depth player.

I only see them as possible depth players. I don't know if either are worth a spot on the 53 man roster but I wanted to be as realistic as possible with these picks.

Nicely done.

Thanks.
