Jay Glazer: interesting tidbit

Jay Glazer made an interesting revelation today on the Fox NFL Sunday show.

He said that when the Houston Texans are interviewing candidates, they are having them break down game tapes of Reggie Bush. No mention of Vince Young.

Sterling Sharpe just made a funny. When asked if the Texans should draft Bush or not, and he said, "You got to draft Bush, and you should go for it on 4th and 2...That's just free advice."

That was Tom Jackson, not Sterling Sharpe. Sharpe hasn't been on the show in a while....Jackson is a long timer....and doesn't even look like Sharp.

He said the Texans should take Bush and "keep him in on 4th and 2's"...not "go for it"

I think Jay Glazer is very good at rehashing news already released on ESPN, not really an good inside info (save for the NY teams).

That being said, I do think it is interesting that all this stuff is out in the media about how the Texans are going to for sure take Bush. This is either entirely true, or the Texans are attempting to work the draft in some way we do not yet know about. The latter is probably unlikely considering our GM.

I would love it if we draft Bush and he turns out to be the next (insert name of HoF RB here), but I just dont think he will translate to the NFL... whatever,

The Texans should imho be having candidates break down tape of Bush, Young, and Carr. Get each of their opinions as to the direction this team needs to go and how they think they can get there. It seems McNair has put all his marbles into the quick fix a couple players away from contending thinking. Is Casserly that good of a snake oil salesman? You have to at least look at all your options. Is Reeves selling the same thing as Casserly? I'm not saying we aren't close to contending but listen to the coaches you are interviewing. It is like having about 8 different consultants for free. Use it to your advantage. I like Bush a lot but I do think it can send this organization into a downward spiral if the Texans make a bad decision on draft day. Look at ALL your options and don't be so single sighted.

Yep, I see the same thing and it is very troublesome.

But if they believed before the Rose Bowl that David Carr has some real talent and that poor coaching has resulted in poor performance, then why would they all of the sudden change their minds? If he was their guy on Wednesday afternoon, then why wouldn't he be their guy on Thursday morning? Did David Carr get worse in that 12 hour span? And if you do believe that he is the problem and that Vince being from Houston has nothing to do with the decision, then why shouldn't the Texans also be breaking down game film of Cutler, Jacobs, and Leinart as well?

Nobody has Cutler, or Jacobs as a top 3 talent. Leinart is the only one in that group....and I for one think he is Drew Blesoe with Pennington's arm.

In McClain's artical today Casserley said they'd be waiting to make their decision until they had the input of their new coaching staff. I'd take that to mean that they aren't being single sighted. Jay Glazer isn't the most reliable source for Texans news and he never said that they weren't breaking down tape of others besides Bush anyways.

If they believe that they were the best fits for the team, then they could trade down and get them later in addition to getting more picks.

With rumors being circulated this year about the breakdown of P Buch, I really have to think that the front office with a stern eye from McNair would be breaking down film of all prospects to cover their *ss.

well, no duh, but we have the 1st pick in the draft and that is tangible....finding a trade partner and manufacturing a speculative trade isn't...probably why it's not as common or as easy to do when talking a little football on a message board. It's easier to discuss who you want for the first overall....as you can see.

Reports are surfacing that the Texans are going to take Reggie Bush even with Vince coming out. I have NO problems with that whatsoever. I think Bush is the right pick and a better player.

Here is what I do have a problem with. Why are you revealing this information? You should keep EVERY NFL team in suspense of who you are going to take. That will make the teams drafting behind you nervous that you might take "their" guy and increase the trade value of the pick.

Say the Titans want Young bad (which I think they do). They are sitting in the #3 draft position. If the Texans are smart, they should threaten to take Young. That would force the Titans to trade up to get him. They would probably offer their #3 overall pick and a 2nd or 3rd rounder at least. Then New Orleans takes Leinert at #2 and guess what??? We still get our guy Reggie Bush at # 3 AND pick up more picks!!!! (the best of both worlds)

Why are we playing into the hands of our opponents yet again by revealing what we are going to do ahead of time? We are decreasing the power of one of the most valuable draft picks in recent memory!

Well I guess you can talk to Vinny about that because he just answered a similar question. What if we trade down to 3 and then Bush is taken 2nd? Then we get neither Bush or Vince Young.

So why not Leinart then? You may think that he won't be as good as Young, but there are a lot of scouts who believe that he is more NFL ready and less of a risk.

Cutler has a much stronger arm than Pennington. I see the Bledsoe comparison, but not Penningtons arm. He's not a floater QB.

Leinart is soft. He's gonna have to toughen up. He's got sum bum knees. Leinart is more like Pennington to me than Cutler is.

Thats easy. You trade down. I bet there would be someone who would love to have Leinart. Perhaps the Jets, Raiders, maybe even the Rams would love to have Mr. Leinart. Also I bet the Lions would love to get into that position. For that spot we can probably get their first this year and next year plus a 2nd and 3rd this year and maybe even a second next year(i havent looked at draft value charts). With this we can really address a lot of areas. Remember our sub par D? We can add a top notch defensive player like Mario Williams, Jimmy Williams, or perhaps Micahel Huff. Rememebr our somewhat pourous oline? Maybe we can add a strong guard line Joseph or Giles or perhaps a RT in McNeil. I would not be dissapointed at all if we traded to 3 and both Young and Bush were gone. Might actually be better that way. Might not be the sexy way to go, but might be the better way to go.
