Jay Cutler became to the second veteran NFL quarterback to leave the field and head to the broadcast booth this offseason.

Cutler will join Fox Sports as a game analyst, working alongside Kevin Burkhardt and Charles Davis, Fox spokesperson Eddie Motl confirmed to USA TODAY Sports on Friday. The move comes a month after Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo retired to embark on his broadcasting career with CBS.

“I don’t know if retirement is the right word; I don’t feel that anyone ever really retires from the NFL," Cutler said in a statement released by Fox Sports. "You are either forced to leave, or you lose the desire to do what’s required to keep going. I’m in between those situations at this point in my life.”

Jeez Cutler had as good a career as Romo didn't he, so why not put him in the booth?

How did Cutler get a tv job? Terrible personality with one of the worst postures I've ever seen out of a professional athlete. Dude looks like a plumber with the way he walks around. Strange hire to say the least.

Tony Romo and Jay Cutler: Never won any big playoff games. Romo never made it past the divisional round. He was one and done every time in the playoffs except for two wild-card wins over the Eagles and Lions which was very controversial (the officials robbed the Lions that game).

Jay Cutler played in an NFC Championship game at least.

And both Romo and Cutler landed amazing TV jobs with no previous experience. They both have beautiful wives and a great life. You have to give them props for that.

Jay Cutler is actually a funny guy with a great personality off the field. A lot of Bears fans say that he's a completely different person when he's not playing football. He's excellent in the community and with his charities. It may explain why he landed Kristin Cavallari as a wife. She would never date a dull guy dating back to Laguna Beach on MTV over a decade ago! LOL

People make Cutler out to be some scrub. He was actually a better qb than most give him credit for. Definitely top 15. Diabetes and injury helped contribute downfalls. You wouldn't understand why unless you had diabetes

WTF does any of that have to do with a tv personality job?

He was hot garbage. He was one of the most talented QB's to have entered the league in the last 20 years, and his self righteous attitude constantly killed his potential. He started off really well in Denver with Marshall and Shanahan, and the minute that Shan got canned, he acted like the biggest diva once Mcdaniels came in there who likely could have made him one of the best QB's in the league. He went full diva and baby and got himself traded to Chicago, and had like one really good season there. He constantly rubbed his teammates wrong. His toughness was always called into question, and through interviews and sideline views you could just see how bad his attitude was. QB's have to be leaders and Cutler was the worst kind of leader imaginable. I don't think anyone has ever denied his talent and his unbelievable arm. He had his moments where he wowed people, but as an overall QB and leader of a team that he had the responsibility for, he was a total failure considering how good he could have been. Its no surprise at all that no teams wanted him at this point, and that should tell you just about all you need to do know about him considering how many teams that are still desperate for a QB right now.

You've never been in the TV or radio business have you?

Good god, you sound like a total and utter moron for bringing up what they did or didn't do on the field. Take a good look at every sports network and you'll see all types of guys as analysts from all types of positions. Some were great players and some were not. Some were great coaches and some were not. It doesn't matter in the end for the most part. The rest are guys that went to school for sports journalism and worked their way up the ranks and created tv personalities for themselves where they became well known.

Agreed. I have Type 2 Diabetes myself. Jay Cutler has dealt with Type 1 diabetes since he was 25 years old. Early in his NFL career. I applaud the great off-the-field work he's done with his "cure for diabetes" charity for both adults and kids.

If you ask anybody who knows Jay Cutler personally, they all say he's a great guy off the field. They all rave about his amazing personality. He may have come across as a different kind of person on the field but off the field he's a likable guy and has a lot of charisma.

I just don't appreciate the filth you wrote about Jay Cutler.
He's a great guy doing a lot of great things for a lot of people.
Who cares how people viewed him on the field? It's football not life.

Good lord can you freaking read dude? I said nothing about him in his personal life. Get off your silly little soapbox, and use common sense when reading a post. Nowhere did I say anything about how he treats his wife or the people around him in his every day life. I spoke about how carries himself when he speaks and his abilities to communicate which is what an analyst or commentator has to do on television. Its the same criticism I'd give to a blabbering idiot like Shannon Sharpe or Ray Lewis who I'm a huge fan of by the way. Some people are horribly designed to be a tv personality, and Cutler is one of them. I could care less what you appreciate about what I said about his football history and how interacted with teammates and coaches, but that's all true whether you want to accept it or not. The fact that he can't even find a job is 100% proof of that.

So now we get to the real reason why you keep blabbering about Cutler. Him or you having diabetes has nothing to do with whether or not if he is a good hire for a tv analyst which is what this conversation was originally about. You just swiped it into something that had nothing to do with the subject we were discussing. And for the record, he could surprise perhaps and be really good. There have been some guys I thought would be awful that ended up being really good to listen to. If he is good, saying that I enjoy his commentary.

Cutler led his team to a winning record just three times out of 11 seasons, and in one of those he only played 10 games. He also averaged at least 1 INT per game in 7 of his 11 seasons.

Great arm. Great athlete in his younger years. Not much else.

That is the frustrating part about Cutler. Dude was one of the best talents in the last 15 years to enter the NFL. I had really high hopes for him, and loved his game in his first two seasons with the Broncos. His attitude killed his potential time and time again though. Just when it looked like he was getting it all together again with the Bears, he went full "Cutler" again over there and rubbed all his coaches and teammates the wrong way even with Mike Martz who did really well with a number of QB's.

If you had Lovie Smith as your HC the chances for success go way down. Cutler also played behind crappy OL's and his WR's were nothing to write home about. Marshall is one of the most overrated WR in the NFL. When is the last time Jeffrey played 16 games, for that matter when is the last time Cutler played 16 games? Which was Cutler's biggest issue. IMHO

Feel free to disagree with me on this one. I think Cutler's diabetes greatly contributed to the way you feel about him. Heck it makes me feel the way I do about him after living with a mother who had/died of juvenile diabetes. (I get too emotional about this subject.)

BTW, If Cutler was the Texans QB next yr he would be the most talented QB in Texans franchise history, which should make you really sad

He will be really good.

Smart guy with a Vandy education.

You sure it has nothing to do with money or being a starting QB in the NFL..

His belief in his arm/accuracy is what did him in.. he made a bunch of dumbass throws that he shouldn't of ever tried thinking he could just riffle it in there. We got that.. he was never a good QB.

I just don't see it, but like I said there have been a few other guys I thought would be terrible that I ended up liking as analysts. Sometimes guys surprise you. That mean white guy from the Dolphins (Can't think of his name right now) that bullied that guy years ago and got suspended for being such a prick where the team got sued has made quite a few appearances over the last year. He plays on the Bills now. He's actually one of the best I've seen in years. He speaks really well and breaks things down better than almost all of them on ESPN and those shows. I hope he ends up getting a gig when he retires. Keyshawn Johnson is a guy I hated as a player, but surprisingly liked his commentary at times. Maybe Cutler will surprise me.
