JAGUARS NOTEBOOK: RB Taylor out until at least June

By BART HUBBUCH, The Times-Union

Fred Taylor won't be allowed back on the field until at least June, Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio said on Sunday.

The veteran running back had arthroscopic surgery in January to repair damage to the medial collateral ligament in his left knee, an injury that caused Taylor to miss the final two games of the 2004 season.

Although Del Rio said Taylor's rehabilitation is on schedule, he ruled out Taylor for the three-day minicamp that begins on Friday.

Taylor missed the first two weeks of the Jaguars' offseason program to work on his recovery in Miami under the supervision of the doctor who performed his surgery.

Asked if Taylor's injury is more serious than just arthroscopic surgery, Del Rio said, "What I can tell you is his rehab is doing well. We expect him to be 100 percent for training camp.''

Jaguars considered Clarett

The Jaguars said they were open to taking Maurice Clarett but not on the first day of the draft.

That cost the Jaguars the chance at Clarett because Denver grabbed the controversial former Ohio State running back on Saturday with the final pick of the third round.

"We wouldn't take him in the first day, and he was able to go in the first day,'' Del Rio said. "It'll be fun to watch and see how he does. He's been so hyped and talked about.''

I was talking to my friend who is a jaqs fan and he said that he has never been the same since the injury.

The Tennessean's Paul Kuharsky from his NFL Notebook:
Jacksonville running back Fred Taylor's knee injury means he's out for June and new offensive coordinator Carl Smith left open the possibility that Taylor could miss the season.
Getting conflicting info from Captain Jack & his new OC? I think the Jags would be in a world of hurt if Taylor is out for any significant part of the season. Greg Jones, Toefield, & the rookie Pearman aren't going to scare anyone.

Paul Kuharsky, of the Tennessean, reports Jacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator Carl Smith has left open the possibility RB Fred Taylor (knee) could miss the season due to his recent knee surgery. At a minimum, as noted previously, Taylor will not be able to do any work in June.

Now Taylor could miss the whole season, fragile Fred has struck again and Jacksonvilllie will not be the competitor they were with him.

They just had our OC on Sirius and they say Fred Taylor is likely to miss the 05 season with an ACL that needs repair. It is not torn but severely stretched and he is not going to do anything until August. They say there is a very good chance he is done.

Key injuries can kill a season. I would think your team depends on more than one player. We had a very large number out for the 2nd season and we still did pretty well considering. An injury sometimes provides an opportunity for some one else to show their stuff.
