Jackholes honor their own: Dick (in)Justice named Texas Sportswriter of the Year

Chronicle columnist Richard Justice has been named Texas sportswriter of the year for 2010 by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.
This is the fifth time Justice has been honored by the organization. He was a three-time winner with the Washington Post and has won twice with the Chronicle.
Justice, who has worked at the Chronicle since 2000, and the other state award winners will be honored during the NSSA’s 52nd Annual Awards Weekend May 14-16. Eric Nadel of the Texas Rangers Radio Network was named Texas sportscaster of the year.
Longtime play-by-play announcers Brent Musburger and Bob Uecker and Bob Ryan, a 42-year veteran of the Boston Globe, have been elected to the NSSA Hall of Fame. ESPN and ABC broadcaster Mike Tirico was named national sportscaster of the year and Peter King of Sports Illustrated was named national sportswriter of the year.

Are you *******ing kidding me? He's won it FIVE times?

As a former journalist, I think I just died a little bit inside.

Dick Justice Sucks VY's sausage

Giving this award to some highschool kid reporting in his school newspaper would give the award more credibility.

Apparently, the association uses similar standards of evaluation as Bob McNair does.

"Dick Justice is on the right track" -- association president

So where are the people who are going to call us morons and defend Justice by citing his proud history of awards? (speaking on, McClain said this morning on 610 'you know, I was doing a lot of Googling and...' the wife and I looked at each other and laughed and I said 'ground breaking journalism research at its best.')

I like Justice. It's funny that people hate him so much when it's obvious his blogs should be read as satire and nothing more. He laughs himself all the way to the bank when people freak out over his articles and blogs.

If you think people hate him for his blogs (which are shamefully unfunny), then you haven't been paying attention.

If it weren't for guys like Richard Justice, then the rest of us wouldn't know what good sports journalism is. Congrats to you Mr. Justice, a well deserved award for someone setting the standard to record lows. If it were a limbo contest, you would be world champion as no one can possibly lower the bar any further. I can't wait to see how well he does in the National Trolling Finals. I believe he is the favorite in the race.

I think a lot of people that are upset by Justice also don't realize that professional wrestling is rigged, that it's a show, it's staged.
Same with Justice, it's just a show and an attempt on his part to provoke, even annoy the reader. And now and then he'll also put something down in print which is real intelligent like his take on Bob Mcnair awhile back.

Yeah he is a random provocateur and the only reason you thought he was real intelligent on that take was because he agreed with you. Throw enough darts and eventually one will hit a position you agree with. If he wants to have a one man show comedic satire act then have at it. He is a joke as a journalist.

And why is this thread in this forum? I could care less about any info concerning Dick Justice. Bury this thread in one of the other forums.

I think most everybody realized Justice hit the ole bulls-eye with his take
on McNairs comments to the team about what his peers told him following the MNF loss to the Ravens. Didn't you ?

If it's something most everybody realized then it was hardly astute. My personal view was it was typically spinning for controversy from Justice. Something to talk about. Players, coaches, owners say something positive in negative times. No revelation there.

Bah, humbug !
Lighten up there, life is short.

meh.....do not care. I don't go to the Chronicle's website anymore. There are to many folks here that post stuff as soon as it happens, so between Texanstalk.com and nfl.com I can get everything I need without soiling my computer or my brain by going to the Chonicle's site.

I'm shocked that a group of elitists would give an award to an elitist.

I remember that his piece on Bob McNair was poorly written. Attaching Bob's name to the end of every sentence isn't provocative-- it's an annoying gimmick.

How? Write a bunch of articles that make people mad and then get named sportswriter of the year.

Ridiculous. Nobody can make my blood boil like Justice can.

Don't you get it, half the time the guy is "pulling your leg". It's a put-on, a tease, he dosn't really mean it. Why on earth would that make you mad ?

Past history of winners of this award from Texas, it goes back a fair bit. It seems one (main?) reason Dick Justice probably won this award for Texas is the rather small pool from which these writers are selected or considered. If you look at the the list it shows that the only winner not from DFW, Houston, or San Antonio was from Amarillo some time ago. Perhaps their choice is an indication of the overall lack of quality that is the journalism we see today (not just in sports either). Also, maybe they just used some pictures on a dart board to see who would win this "prestigious" award.

I find the comments at the bottom of Justice's articles more insightful than the article itself.

And his blog is just asinine.
