A year ago, two years ago, it was will the person be healthy enough to play the position. This year its who's going to win the position? I think the coaches are going to have a tough preseason and training camp and there are going to be a lot of difficult decisions at the end of the preseason. I do not think the coaching staff are going to relish the end of the preseason. They may look forward to the season, but a lot of tough decisions are going to have to be made before it starts. The preseason games this year will be used to evaluate players, and as such, may not be special events for us fans. I think its going to be very hard to evalute what this year's team is going to be like until the play that 1st game against SD. What are your thoughts?

I think most of the roster is set and there are very few open positions. We will have a few tough cuts but the starters and first line reserves are pretty much solid.

the 2nd olb spot between peek and babin

Don't see that one really being in much dispute. Unless Babin completely falls on his face the job is his and Wong and Peek will split the ROLB spot. But really here you are talking about three guys that will definitely be on the team. The real question is the kinds of decisions down the depth chart like aj discusses on his Voice of the Fan article about the defense on the Texans' front page right now.

Something that will be interesting to me is if they adjust the # of players at different positions they keep--for instance 3 RB's and 2 FB's or 2 RB's and 2 FB's giving another spot somewhere else. Last year I believe they kept 9 OL. This year they might be able to go with 8.

I personally think there will be more competion than some of you think. I think we may see some good competion at the WR spot. We will see competion at the TE spot. There will be a lot of competion at the O-Line positions. We have yet to discuss the defensive side of the ball. Remember, I'm saying we have a number of young people that we are going to have to decide what we will do with. Some may be called projects, but are we going to cut them loose or what? I think many of you are underestimating what kind of talent may be sitting in the wings. Plus, don't forget some of the people from the NFLE. Yes, most are not NFL talent, but will they push a 1st or 2nd stringer is an interesting question. The real point is we are getting good enough that we are having to ask these kinds of questions. It really bodes well for the future.
