Pat Kirwan and several coordinators and GMs are rethinking that. Don't be surprised to see a lot more running this season and a return to a more traditional two back set.

I think so but then I'm probably biased .... But if you look at what he was able to do with Schaub , who never could move and didnt have a big arm & an UDFA RB .... How many times did we see his route combinations get #80 wide open , no one within 10 yards of him.

People complain about being predictable , but the fact is that the QB was so limited physically he couldn't execute. The same plays they ran the season before & went to an 11-1 start were the same plays they ran going 1-3 to end the season and 2-14 the next.

He got fired because he couldn't fix his broken QB , or the flawed one who replaced him.

I think the Ravens are a real good fit personnel wise for his offense , pending Ray Rice has something in the tank. Flacco will thrive in that system.
 
under off season coach speak 'we are going to run the ball more or more effectively " is near the top of the list. The money spent this off-season does not suggest that teams are going to emphasize the run (or at least put on one guys shoulder). I mean an ok (non great) WR3like Andre Roberts got more money than any single RB free agent. then again, it really won't hard for much of the league to run more and still keep this a "passing league."
 
One way to counter the leagues shift towards pass rush specialists is to collect huge linemen and bruiser backs and pounding the smaller nickle packages into submission.
 
You're already seeing it a little bit in college. Defenses countered the spread by going light and fast on defense, and now you're seeing a bunch of run heavy teams ascend to the top.

Football will always go in cycles.

Yup, especially in college. Teaching two different schemes or having two different groups is difficult on young, inexperienced players.
 
I think the whole "it's a passing league" mantra is largely a media fabrication anyway. Well, and maybe Roger Goodell because he thinks fans want to see pass-happy offenses (probably because of that fantasy football crap).

I cannot think of a single team who has got to the Super Bowl solely on the arm of their QB. Successful teams are committed to the pass and the run.

Even when the NFL was more oriented towards th e run, the best teams could pass. so the idea that to be really good a team has to do both is not unique to now.

Agreed.

Even the most die hard run team will abandon the run if they're down by two scores with time running out. Throwing the ball is simply a more efficient way to get the ball from one end of the field, to the other. That and excellent punt returns.

The higher scoring teams are generally also the better passing teams.

Points come out of the passing game. Throw to get the lead, run to keep it.
