PLANO, Texas (AP) -- Former Dallas Cowboys receiver Michael Irvin was charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia after police searched his vehicle during a traffic stop, Plano police said Sunday.

Irvin, an ESPN analyst and semifinalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, was arrested on an outstanding warrant for speeding in Irving after being pulled over Friday afternoon for speeding in Plano, the Plano Police Department said. Police spokesman Mike Johnson said he didn't know what kind of paraphernalia was found.

Do you think this will keep Irvin from being inducted to the Hall of Fame?

Depends on the outcome. However, I don't believe that Irvin would have gone in this year anyway.

I would think if this amounts to anything and is a drug issue Michael will lose his cushy ESPN job.

The news clip said it was a misdemeanor charge. So I guess no drugs were found. I'm totally clueless about this type of stuff.

He's the bonehead of the year if he's caught with anything drug related. I like Michael; I appreciate what he did while playing and he has the world by the tail. Nice family, great job, fame, fortune. I just don't understand the pull of the drug culture but it sure destroys people's lives.

I love the Cowboys and am sorry this happened, but at the same time, this may explain a lot of the *****ic statements coming out of Irvin's mouth during the Terrell Owens affair.

I've been reading things online, DMN stuff and just in reading between the lines I would NOT be surprised if Jerry doesn't sign Terrell. I just have that funny feeling from hearing some things he's said that he's intrigued by the possibility. I don't know what Bill might think about it but I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see a contrite Terrell having a news conference one day with Jerry. I don't think Jerry would care if that would set well with the fans or not.

Michael has always said sort of stupid things...to me he's not very well spoken but I guess his football experiences warrant the ESPN job. In the case of Terrell I think he's just backing a friend.

Back to Fox Sports he goes.

If I'm not mistaken (and I definitely could be on this one), he was out of broadcasting for a couple of years the last time he was caught with drugs.

Fox Sports may not even take him now.

Looks like his career is going down with a :thud:

I think he's going to start preaching on late night TV with MC Hammer and the old lady with blue hair! :loser

I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt and believing his story about helping a friend in rehab. He even named a reverend and a particular faith-based treatment program here in Houston on the Dan Patrick Show today, so I'm not sure how far he would want to take a falsehood. Besides, who are we to say he's lying? idonno: (I'm not a Cowboy or Irvin fan...I've only started enjoying his personality and analysis since he became a media dude)

I've never judged people by their addictions anyway. I judge people by what they DO on those addictions.

Yea I'm on his side too and I believe him if he says he was helping a friend.

He put himself in a horrible position though.

I put this one right up there with "the dog ate my homework". This excuse does't work when Mothers find cigarettes in their teen kids' coat pocket....I'm sure the Cops fell for this old worn out excuse just the same as those Moms do.

What gives with the new Avatar?

It was a pipe. He claims it belongs to a friend that he's trying to help quit or something like that. This time, I think I believe him, but he needs to lose some old friends and move on.

I would never believe a punk crack user. Irvin has to prove he isn't using because of his past.

Don't hold your breath on a drug test, though. That would be the easiest way for him to prove his innocence.

I heard a blurb on the news that Michael is going to confer with his lawyer today about taking a drug test.

From what I understand he got caught with a crack pipe in a bag with pot residue inside his sunglass case under the driver’s side seat of his Mercedes. Coke clears your system very quickly so there won't be anything to find if he takes a drug test.

In related news his dog ate his homework.

Actually they said it was weed pipe...But I am sure he was holding it for a friend...

Crack/Coke stays in your system for 72 hours so by the time a drug test came around he'd be clear. I beleive he still smokes marijuana but thats it. Who knows though!

I was arrested when I was 19 for paraphernalia . I was with a guy that got busted for having a half oz. of pot and I had the rolling papers in my pocket so they took me in for a paraphernalia by association charge ...... :ok: :challenge .

I guess you learn from your mistakes .

I hope they expose this guy for what he really is once and for all and fire him from espn, I cant stand his cocky attitude and he totally ruined "The Longest Yard" for me.

Rush Limbaugh was fired within days for simply stating his mind.

Michael Irvin is given these nice softball interviews and gets to apologize after commiting a crime.

Whoo, good thing words are seen as worse than drugs at ESPN.

Irvin called it a crack pipe on ESPN with Stu. He has already changed his story from the version he gave the cops. http://www.profootballtalk.com/rumormill.htm

I haven't heard all these updates and discrepancies. Now it definitely seems a little fishy. He even seemed like he was over-explaining it on the Dan Patrick Show, come to think of it. :fib

Freakin' crackhead!! Burn him at the stake! ;)

i love the "the pipe belongs to my friends', who i picked up from rehab" explantion. that's like robert blake being found with the gun that killed his wife and him saying, "uh,, it's my friend OJ's, whom i'm helping to try to find out who killed his wife. irving is a dirtbag, plain and simple.

Michael Irvin gets a one week suspension from Fox. I tune Michael Irvin out any time he comes on the air, disgusted that young sports fans are watching him.

If he found a crack pipe, why did he put it in his vehicle? Why didn't he crush it with his foot, and sweep it into the trash or just throw it into the trash. How many affluent or non-affluent kids search the family trash can in the garage? I think his excuse is complete BS. If I owned Fox, he would be gone.
