Insideop's 1000th Post Dual Texan Mock

Insideop

All Pro
I have been wanting to do a Texan Mock for awhile now and have been compiling a list of players in the various rounds, mostly from WalterFootball.com. Since this is my 1000th post I thought I'd go ahead and do a dual mock of who I would like to see the Texans draft and who I think they're more likely to draft. Some rounds they may be the same for both mocks. So, go ahead and fire away! :gun:

The way I would like it to go mock.

Rd1-Earl Thomas, FS No, I'm not a horns fan, but from everything I've seen/read he will be a great FS. Problem is, I don't think he falls this far.

Rd2-Ben Tate, RB I haven't watched Tate any this past season and would prefer Gerhart, who I did see in a few games, and either one would probably be a good pick. I don't think either one will last to the 3rd round where the Texans pick at 81.

Rd3-Linval Joseph, DT Big strong DT(6'4" 328 lbs). Good for tying up 2 O-linemen and stuffing the run.

Rd4-Myron Lewis, CB/FS Heard the Texans were showing interest in him (may have had him in for workout?). Seems to have similar measurables as Bennett and Molden.

Rd5-Barry Church, SS This is probably too early for Church but I don't think he will be there in the 6th. Would provide good depth behind Pollard and be a solid ST's player.

Rd6-Ben Burney, CB Fast (4.38 in the 40). More depth at CB.

Rd6-Kevin Matthews, OC Bruce Matthews' son and an Aggie. Had a good Pro Day. Can play OG or OC. Would probably end up on PS for development. Don't think Kubes will pass him up!

Rd7-Simoni Lawrence, OLB More depth at OLB and ST's player.

The way I think it will go mock

Rd1-Ryan Mathews, RB This is who a lot of mocks have us taking, and with Smithiak saying they want an impact player in the 1st, it could be a RB. The only snag could come if SD covets him more and moves ahead of us.

Rd2-Brandon Ghee, CB Not sure the Texans like Ghee but he had the size I think they like. They could pick from any of a boatload of CB's in this round or they could go another route like FS with Burnett. Just depends on who they rate higher.

Rd3-Linval Joseph, DT Same as my other mock. Just not sure if he will be there for the Texans this late. If not, they could go with Torrell Troup who is a little smaller(314 lbs).

Rd4-Robert Johnson, FS Moving up the boards fast and may not be here for the Texans, but if he is, I think they take him. Has a workout scheduled with them I think.

Rd5-Shaun Lauvao, OG The Texans may go another route here like OLB or SS, but I think they may start looking at O-line in this range. Lauvao has good size and quickness (top 10 O-lineman at Combine in 3 cone drill and 20 yd shuttle). Plus he was among the top in the BP with 33.

Rd6-Ben Burney, CB Same as other mock. More depth at CB.

Rd6-Stevenson Sylvester, OLB More depth at OLB and ST's.

Rd7-Shelley Smith, OG Had a good Combine and would be more depth at OG. Could develop on PS. He's from Colorado St. so Kubes probably has the inside scoop on him.

Well there it is. Sorry it was such a long post. Hope you enjoyed!

Solid effort.

One objection that I have is that I don't think the Texans will look to draft a big clogging DT like Joseph. It doesn't seem to fit the mold of what they like.

Not saying he wouldn't improve the team, most people on the board long for a big DT, just don't think he'll get picked by us.

Joseph is certainly big, but not necessarily clogging. He had nearly 30 TFL in his 3 year career at East Carolina. Joseph's versatility to project to any defensive front is what's causing his rise among internet draft boards.

I would like to see a DT with size on the Texans. I've grown tired of watching Amobi Okoye get pushed around. I'd like to see how the Colts smallish guards handle this hoss.

You may be right about this, I don't know, but with Okam's spotty play and Cody's mediocre play, they may want to go with someone like Joseph. I know some on this board are high on Owens from Georgia who is lighter weight but stout and very strong, and they could go with him in the 4th. I just don't think they will pick another 3 technique like Okoye to play along side of him. If they go with another 3 technique (Price, Odrick, Atkins for example) in the early rounds, it would be a sign to me that they intend to trade Okoye. JMHO!
