Injuries again

"The following players did not practice on Thursday night: WR Derick Armstrong, WR Jabar Gaffney, C Drew Hodgdon, CB Chris McKenzie, LB Zeke Moreno, CB Jon Pendergrass, LB DaShon Polk, QB Dave Ragone, QB B.J. Symons, DE Corey Sears, RB Jonathan Wells and G Zack Wiegert." Capers said we had probably 11 to 12 guys out.

What's happening to our QB's. The only one who is healthy right now is Banks. Sorry, but are injuries going to be the achillies heel of this ball club, again. Keep an eye on this. Is the Houston heat a factor in the injuries? Oh, well, I forgot I need to be more negative.

On the positive side perhaps we will get to see Mathis play some this week and perhaps get an idea of just how he matches up to other NFL players. I still think Gaffney is questionable for this season. I still think AJ, Kasper and Mathis will be the top 3 for this season, particularly if Gaffney is unable to play. If these 3 perform the way I think they can, Gaffney may drop to the #4 receiver.

They say Bradford is having the best camp of his career with the Texans, so we'll see how he does before we anoint rookies and journeymen ahead of him. The Chronicle has a quote from Capers that said Gaffney might be able to play against Dallas, but is questionable. There's been no mention of even being out of the opener, nevermind missing the season.

Really man, you're a nice guy but your posts are just doom and gloom and about something negative concerning the team that worries you. Just enjoy the season, and let things happen as they happen. Nothing on this board is going to change how they play or who gets hurt for how long, so you might as well just be happy the season is here.

I don't really think the heat is much of a factor as many cities deal with the same thing. Miami, Tampa, Dallas, New Orleans, are probably all nearly if not as bad as Houston. Some guys have said Dallas and Miami are worse. Heat isn't the reason Carr's ankle is bothering him. Heat isn't the reason Symons seperated his shoulder. Heat didn't tear a tendon in Wells finger. Heat didn't sprain Wiegert's ankle. Heat didn't break Moreno's leg or whatever it was.

Not to mention they have an indoor practice facility which they seem to use quite often.

From the chronicle on Gaffney"

"With Jabar Gaffney limited in preseason because he's recovering from shoulder surgery and a staph infection, Capers was asked where the offense would be if Bradford had signed with another team."

This is the 1st time I have seen the word staph infection. Houston has had a problem with that in the locker room and it can be very serious. Like I said, I'm not sold on the recoverability of Gaffney at this point in time. I think it will be awhile before he's ready and he is missing a lot of TC.

(On Jabar Gaffney’s injury) “Gaffney has a slight infection that we’re giving him medication for right now. It has nothing to do with his shoulder. Really, it doesn’t do anything (to set him back). He can continue to work his shoulder, which he is doing. Whether it’s a day or two before he’s back out here – Jabar know his assignments. I think the next step for him is when we add the physical element to things. He’s done as much, if not more, than what I expected of him at this point in time.”

not the first time i heard of an infection. that was capers from tuesday i believe. he still practices but he wears the red jersey - just like a qb. no contact

he will be fine come september 11th

"There's a chance he might be able to play against Dallas, but we just can't say for sure right now," coach Dom Capers said. "Jabar's doing well. He's working hard and doing the things necessary to get healthy. He's gained most of the strength back (in his shoulder)."

so far the Texans have been exceedingly lucky compared to other teams misfortunes. heck even Tony Hollings is ready to seriously compete at RB & 100% healthy. I can now look forward to watching the battle between him and the new rookie Morency :tv:

everybody is signed. no off field problems. another great looking 1st pick. & no one other than Bennie Joppru (who may have been trying too hard to make his comeback) is out for the season. every indication is that the Texans are right on track so I don't understand or share your pessimism :tomato:

Most of the key players on this list would play If it were regular season.

I think Capers and Med Staff is doing right thing, sure it would be nice to win some preseason games. BUT in 2 weeks the tally is still 0-0. I bet about 1/2 of those guys suit up 9/11 to play. :texflag:

Your posts just keep getting better and better. At least you are consistent. So you are saying that Kasper will be our number 2 receiver? My dumb @#@ knows better than that. I think you are forgetting Bradford and Armstrong. I didn't even mention Gaffney because your crystal ball tells you that he will miss the season. While my crystal ball may be a little foggy, I don't think he will miss the season. So for the point of my argument, I'm gonna go on and throw him in the mix also. So, Kasper will have to leap frog practically everyone and I don't see that happening. Nice camp and all considered, I think he is a long shot at best to make this team. Not saying he want, but he won't be in the top three IMO.

Exactly. It's always best to err on the side of caution during training camp.

IMO, as far as preseason is concerned, if someone has so much as a hangnail, keep 'em out!

LOL, that is what Carr is listed to have a problem with

Kasper is a special teams guy and Mathis is coming from I-AA.

Ibar , I wouldn't worry about the injuries. Like someone said, in reg season, these guys play as for now. I would like to think Capers has an idea by now what those guys can or can't do. So he holds them out and lets some guys that are on the bubble get some PT and see what they can do against Oakland before the "Turk" comes

And yes, we still have depth issues.. and yes it would be nice to have signed some FA's out there but take a look at what some of these guys want or signed for .. We don't want to be in salary cap trouble before we get our "core together (which we can safely say is D-Rob,AJ,Carr, and we will see on TJ)

well if carr goes down id chose banks over BJ and Ragone anyways, and most of the hold outs are precausion, i mean its only pre-season so no need to push anyone !!!!!
