In order to get more sacks, should the Texans blitz more?

Should the Texans blitz more on defense?

  • Yes, we need to blitz the living daylight's out of opposing QB's if we expect to see more sacks this

  • No, we'll be just fine with the same defensive approach from previous seasons, just wait and see.

IMO, I think they should if they want to see more sacks. I think they are putting too much pressure on the OLB's to get sacks with little help coming from the d-line. I thought the 3-4 was designed to create mismatches and fool the offensive line into not knowing who's rushing the passer and who's dropping back in coverage on passing downs. Well if we are only sending the OLB's on every passing down, IMO that makes the defense very predictable and the opponents o-line will be looking for the same people to rush the passer on every passing down. IMO, I think Capers probably intends on blitzing more this season, but he is keeping it as a secret so teams won't know what to expect from us this season.

I agree. I've always been a big fan of the blitz. But the key is your D-line tying up extra blockers and posing enough threat to keep the offense busy. I don't think we were all that scary upfront last year, so teams picked up our blitzes fairly easy it seems.

With the upgrade in speed at linebacker and corner we will Blitz more. This year we will have at least 2 LB or 1 LB and a Corner blitzing on every passing situation. Capers has done this where ever he has coached and now that he has his guys we should see plenty of it.

11-5 or 12-4 this year

I think for this team to reach anything over the 7-9 season of last year, we are going to have to have a more sophisticated blitzing pattern. I am pretty upbeat, judging that this is still the offseason, however with the all important speed factor being taken care of, I see no reason why 9-7 is not a gimme, BUT we are going to have to prove that we can beat Indy and the rest of our division, on a consisteant basis. If we can avoid the injury bug, we finally have the depth to really open up the offense and show that Carr is a pro-bowl QB with the best of them. Can't wait to see a Carr bomb to rookie "Speedie" Mathis. And AJ, well, he will just keep getting better, making life miserable for defensive coordinators trying to devise a good defense to stop him.
