I'm tired of this condescending attitude

For months, anytime the front office has made a move that people disagree with, the people disagreeing get harassed by people who call themselves "true fans." Now, it's the same thing. The pro-Mario people are telling everyone else to get with the program or to get out.

Well, forgive most people for having an opinion. Forgive me for not bending over and taking everything Charlie Casserly gives me, then saying "Thank you sir, may I have another?" The reason people get angry over bad decisions is because they CARE about the team.

All of us fans had to live through a horrible, awful 2-14 season. Nobody ever wants to go through that again. The one piece of mind that people got out of the season was that we would have the #1 pick in a great draft. People said that this season would be worth it if we got Reggie Bush. People said this season would be worth it if we put together a great trade package for someone else who wanted Reggie Bush. Did anyone have MARIO WILLIAMS in mind when they were hoping the Texans would tank the season? Of course not. So how can you blame people for being upset over this?

Look, I'm not going to turn my back on the Texans. And I'm not saying Mario Williams isn't going to be a good player. But it's one thing to be a good player, and it's another thing to be worth the #1 overall pick in the draft. I have an opinion, and that's that we made the wrong move. A HUMONGOUS mistake actually. Just because I have my own opinion though doesn't make me a bad fan.

So please, quit with this elitist junk about "Applaude every move the Texans make or you're just a whiny, ungrateful fan." I'm not a bad fan. I'm just not a submissive pushover. And everyone who wanted Reggie or Vince or D'Brick, they aren't bad fans. They're just PASSIONATE fans. Let people have their opinions, and get off your high horse.

Good philosophy to live by.

I mean, we got so many whiners at the moment. Makes me want to whine.

Well Charley C. will never have to live with this pick since he is going to be terminated next week anyway, according the ESPN Radio and AM610, so he had nothing to lose.

Yea If that was happening I doubt he would even be allowed to make our selection...

Have an opinion, have any opinion you want, what you said was fine. The key phrase, I am not going to turn my back on the Texans. Its when people start saying they are going to sell there tickets or I am never going to watch the Texans again. Thats what gets the "Dont let the door hit ya crowd" going.

Awsome pick. Good job guys.

I think its going to be a good year.

Been hearing that same stuff since the Texans passed on Derrick Johnson and it doesn't get any better.

I'm coming to the conclusion that this team doesn't draft smart. I'm not saying that picking Mario Williams in the first round isn't smart. I'm saying that picking Mario Williams in the first overall spot is retarded. Ok, so you couldn't get anyone to pull a Ditka. Take less than equal value for the pick. Get another 2 and maybe a 4 if necessary and move down to the 2 spot or even better the 3 spot.

What kind of office full of shaved apes goes and pays Mario-freakin-Williams $54 million dollars? This was not necessary. This was a typical stupid Texans draft move. They do something like this every year.

It's easy to look back at 2002 and say "Well we should never have passed on Clinton Portis" and taken alone that's a hindisght:20/20 kind of thing to say but it's the start of a pattern that you guys can't tell me you don't see.

In 2003 we reach for Joppru, Wand, and Ragone? The Joppru pick came when Jason Witten was still on the board. Wand was one of the Texans small school specials and Ragone, well Ragone I'll never understand. it was like they were going out of their way to build the team slowly.

3rd string QB is after all a very pressing need.

2004 things get just odd. Jason Babin? For the rest of our first day? To the Titans? Are you kidding me?

2005 and we pass on Derrick Johnson after he falls into our lap. Travis Johnson becomes our annual "reach of day one" The list of guys taken after him who have made and will make more of a difference is just shocking. You could throw a dart at piece of paper with names from pick 16 on down to the middle of the second round and have a better chance of finding a quality starter than TJ.

Now this? No trade down to speak of when we hold the rights to the guy who won the Heisman Trophy and who had a game where the loser got his rights named after him?

Pathetic. Pitiful. If you think Bush was going to have a hard time living up to the hype just wait and see how much trouble they've bought Mario Williams with this pick.

The Texans, when it comes to their personnel moves are in the elite company of the Lions, Cardinals, Bengals, and Browns. We don't conduct our business with the same insight as the Patriots, Steelers, Panthers, and sadly I must add the Cowboys. Nor do we have their (at times) "dumb luck".

Some teams draft well every year and other don't. Some teams invariably seem to make the smart trades and sign the free agents that pay off while others make stupid bargains with other teams and overpay marginal players.

The understanding that the Texans are in that group that routinely has to buy their tickets to the Super Bowl is not easy to swallow. Going into our 6th year it's starting to look more and more like a pattern though.

Good post snapple. Texanred pretty much summed up what I was gonna post. You put some thought into what should have been said that one is a fan of the team and yet does not have to follow / agree with everything the team does.

Much better than the one post wonders of "that's it - I'm a Titan fan now" posts. Guess they forget who the owner of that team is....

Im not telling the others to get out except the fans that say they want out.. Becuase we didnt draft Reggie Bush apparantly the 1 man who could lead us to the superbowl. You act like because of all this hype that he is gonna come in and rush for like 2000 yads and 50 TDS! Sure he could help our offense but we need more help on the defensive side. You only get 1 shot at taking a premier pass rusher when you definately need a pass rush.

Im not being condescending but all you other people who are throwing a huge tantrum and changing your team allegiances over a draft pick... You all know you are still gonna be texan fans... You are all gonna still hope we win... Because you all need to come to the realization niether Bush or Williams is gonna put this team in the playoffs its the 52 others and what the coaching staff does with all of them that will dictate that.. I sinceerely hope that all the rookies jhave great careers but as we have seen that does not happen.. But you have to take a player where you need him and gives you the best chance to win if he plays to his potential.

Drafting Mario Williams over Bush/Young is the one smart thing the Texans have done this offseason!

The Texans DID draft smart. One of their biggest needs was a pass rusher. One of their biggest strengths was their running game. And you wanted them to draft another runner? Now THAT isn't very smart.

You can't expect people not to be pissed when all signs lead to the Texans drafting Bush and they drop this bombshell the day before.

Mario is a fine player he will be dominating force on the d-line for years to come. Just give it some time to cool off cause it will. It did with Vince after a few weeks.

I've already blown off quite a bit of steam myself and am slowly coming back to reality that this is the right move for the Texans addressing there most pressing need. DE's in a new 4-3 defense.

Let's go Texans.

The only "signs" that pointed that way was the media hype, and those folks don't make the decisions for the team.

Well so far, I didn't get Peppers. I didn't Get Sean Taylor. I didn't get Roy Williams. I didn't get the good Johnson. I didn't get D'Brick. I figure I get dibs on a knee jerk after the move for a day and then I move on. He's a super prospect with a very good upside who fills a need from a previous mistake. If they can fine tune his motor, he'll elevate the defense. . .
I figgure Kubes has his thumbs all over this move. I support Kubiak. I'm on board. This pick is the result of several bad moves that didn't work out. We weren't in a position to take VY or Reggie. Niether wasn't worth 3000 points. We got no offers for the #1. Time to move on. Or vote with your pocket book. Your choice.

O crap I agree with BoBo. What have I done. Maybe I need to rethink my position.:)

Well Bobo if Bush was all media hype then you have to admit Williams is as well because as I have been posting all night and have yet to recieve an answer from any Williams supporter at all with these stats:

""Certainly he isn't a dominating defender yet, not when he had sacks in just 16 of his 36 appearances for the Wolfpack.

Ten of his 14½ sacks in 2005 came in just three games and against lesser opponents. Half of his six sacks in 2004 came in one outing, although, granted, the opponent was Florida State.""

How does those stats make Williams a freak and an absolute to dramatically improve our defense this year and where the hell was he for those other games if he is so damn good?

Every fan has a right to gripe about the team and decisions made. Getting pissed off over things you have absolutely no control over is one of the great things about being a fan!

But don't confuse optimism with condescending attitude. Some fans choose to drink the koolaide instead of the hatorade.

I'm excited about Williams, but I would have been excited about Young or Bush, too. Hey, we're getting a potential playmaker, and that's always a good thing, right?

How do you F this up? Maybe the Titans take Bush and we can enjoy Bush kicking the Texans' **** twice a season for the next 8 years.

Q. What to you get when you cross an aggie with a caserly?

A. What we saw tonight!

what did you think they would do?:)
