I'm sold--Demarcus Ware at 13

I happen to be in Alabama this week and I picked up a local paper that had an article on Demarcus Ware.

In essence this kid is a pro-typical Texan kind of player...extremely hard worker, great attitude, high energy, etc. His coach's only complaint was that he was late to a couple of appointments because he was the lead vocals in his church choir!

Kid takes nothing for granted and will come in hard. According to the Montgomery Advertiser, he ran a 4.46; vertical of 38"; 225lbs X 28; power cleans 400lbs at pro-day workout!!

According to Frank Coyle (Draft Insiders): "He is best suited as 3/4 set where he can be an impact defender early in his career. He shows the outstanding aggression and suddenness off the edge to change games as a pass rusher... most likely will need further time learning 3/4 scheme to be a fulltime starter."

That would fit CC's comment on not drafting a starter. I'm just not sure he'll be around at 13 with more teams converting to 3/4.

I agree, he would be a great pick for us. However, I doubt he will be there when we pick. The more I have been thinking about it, the more I like the idea of trading down to the late teens very early twenties, gaining an extra 3 and then picking up T. Davis or M. Clayton with the first. Then using the 3s to get a solid O-lineman and a solid D-lineman. Those picks coupled with the Buchanon pick would make a pretty solid first day and address most of the bigger needs the team has.

Dont worry if Ware is gone. Merriman is a Texans guy too.

"Terrapin junior defensive end Shawne Merriman will hold his second annual holiday coat drive benefiting area youth Sunday at the Terp men's basketball team's game against UNC-Asheville. His generosity stems from a childhood of economic uncertainty and is one of many service activities student athletes participate in each year. "

I agree there. I think Dallas is in love with Ware at this point. I dont see him falling to 13 and the question of who might fall to us is a question mark depending on who the 49ers take and what the dolphins do. they seem to have the effect of the draft tied up.

He's definitely looking like a big impact player and with questions surrounding Peek he may definitely be the guy. It seems Capers wants to give Peek more of a chance so it's hard to be completely sold on this idea. I feel like Spears may be a bigger need and I guess depending on how FO grades him a big possibility if still there. The trenches have to be addressed at some point soon whether offense or defense so while Ware is the sexy pick maybe not as prudent. I wouldn't be disappointed though more speed please.

No OLB is going to have an immediate impact for the Texans.

Babin and Peek will be the starters. They will be the guys rushing the QB in passing situations.

I doubt a WR will have much of an impact either.

The only position where a rookie can have much of an impact this year is RB. Someone who can break tackles or someone who can take it the distance (neither of those are strengths for DD) could really have an impact for the Texans.

Ware is absolutely on my short list of guys I’d be thrilled with at 13. Peek is a RFA next year and it will only help us to be strong at this position where we have been weak over the first 3 years. With more teams running the 3-4 the best of these tweeners are being pushed up the draft boards every year. If we draft him I can see the veteran Peek starting, using Ware in packages at first.

I think it is great that Ware could be picked before us...I don't see DJ, Merriman, and Ware all going before us. If Ware is picked ahead of us one of the others may drop. I have had some dillusional thoughts of Merriman in the middle with Greenwood. Greenwood will have most of the coverage duties while Merriman can just run a muck...granted he has to have that ability...He would probably want to drop some pounds too...if possible.

With Ware in the top 13, someone should drop to us. Either making the spot highly tradeable or giving us a pretty good prospect.

2QBs+3RBs+2CBs+3DE/OLB+2WRs=Good possibilities.

That is ignoring the "What the he||" pick before us...I am guessing there will be at least one of those.

Very good point with the math there. I think that either one of the top 3 LB or top 3 RB will fall to us. You might even put in T.Williamson in that group too, he has been shooting up a lot lately and teams need wideouts.

i still don't know what we do if Pac Man falls to us.

We do know that Ced Benson, Williamson, Ware, Marcus Spears, and Pac Man are the likely candidates to fall to 13. One of them will fall.

Alex Smith/Aaron Rodgers
R.Brown/Cadillac/Benson
Braylon/Mike Williams/Williamson
Merriman/DJ/Ware
Marcus Spears
Pac Man/Antrel Rolle

With the gurantee that Alex Smith and Aaron Rodgers getting drafted in the top 10, we are locked to have one of those players in bold.

Right now it looks like we would have to use our 78th and 13th and trade up a bit if this were to happen. He did mention if we trade up, it wouldn't be too far. I think its more likely we trade down to get more bodies now that the Buchannon deal has been made - assuming that the deal is confirmed by everyone. What are your thoughts?

UD,

I'm just not sure we can plan on those folks going in the top 12. For example, apparently some teams like Carlos Rogers better than Rolle or Jones. If thats not smoke, then CBs may fall little given the depth. If this scenario occurs, thats not necessarily good for us. I mean we don't need a corner and unless a team really likes one guy, they may be willing to take the best of what's left at their pick.

I agree, there will probably be 1 or even 2 WTH picks in top 12. This talent pool is so close. I fear we'll have no chance at Benson, DJ, Merriman or Ware.

With Ware and Williamson looking more and more like possible top 12 picks it looks like there will be a lot of phone calls after #12 pick. Excellent chance Barron, Benson, Merriman, Spears or two mentioned above falls to us. Texans should definitely be in advantageous position to grab one or deal down with hefty asking price considering some of these guys could be in high demand. :monkey:

In my mind there are only 3 players were targeting now....

Thomas Davis - Speed and tackling, what we lost in sharper and more... coverage skills worth the #13the pick

Damarcus Ware - Best speed rush OLB...according to "experts". Must trade down before Dallas pick

David Baas - most dominating C-OG..... trade for the eagle's 2 picks....maybe Khalif barnes

I'd be happy with any of those guys.

I would shoot myself if the draft went something like this and we get no offers to trade down. Many say Rodgers can really fall if Alex Smith get's drafted number 1 overall. So who do we select if we get no trade down offers. Pollack? Thomas Davis? Pac Man?

SF-Alex Smith
MIA-Ronnie Brown
CLE-Braylon Edwards
CHI-Mike Williams
TB-Caddillac Williams
TEN-Antrel Rolle
MIN-Troy Williamson
ARI- Cedric Benson
WAS- Shawn Merriman
DET- Derick Johnson
DAL- Demarcus Ware
SD- Marcus Spears

Well this is good til you add in the trades that will happen. We all know there will be some. I think Miami and Tampa will have a trade. I think Cleveland and Minnesota will have a trade. I think Tenneesee and New Oreleans will have a trade. I think Detriot will try and trade down. So there is a possibility of players going in different spots.
SF- Rodgers
TB- M. Williams/Brown
Min-Edwards/M. Williams
Chi-Brown/Edwards
Mia-Brown/C. Williams
NO- DJ
Cle- Merriman
Ari- Rolle
Was-Williamson/ James/ Pac-man
Det- Trade down with someone or go James or Spears
Dal- Ware, Spears
SD- Spears, James, Clayton, Barron, Williamson
possibilities for each thing.

I see what you are saying, but I think some team would be willing to move to get a guy most value in the top10. There is a drop off...especially in RB, WR, and probably a few other postions too. Someone will bite. Nothing says it has to be some great trade. We could move a couple of spots and see what happens, but with Ware and even Williamson moving into the top 12 or so, our trading options increase highly.
