I really don't think it would be hard to find a career backup somewhere who can get us more than about 140 net passing yards per game, an average of 1/2 of a TD per game, and almost 1 interception per game. That's the production that we got from Carr over the last half of the season. The easy part of the season.

I think we could definitely get more than that with Sage. I think we could probably get that with Van Pelt, Quinton Porter, or even Owen Daniels, fer cryin out loud.

2. The running game picked up
3. The Defense picked up
4. The passing game disappeared

What has David done in the last 8 games to make you think he should be the starting QB for the Houston Texans in '07??

What has he done through out the whole year??

Or should we just take your word, that he is our best option at QB, because I'm not seeing anyting to make me believe he is.

Do we need a new starting Left Tackle?? sure we do. Even though Ephraim Salaam shut out Dwight Freeney twice, Jason Taylor, & Demarcus Ware, he had problems going against yabooty(the guy from tennessee).

A new running back?? Sure do... the guy we had could barely rush for 3.6-3.8 ypc behind a poor offensive line when he was suffering from turf toe, and closer to 5 ypc when he was healed up behind an equally poor playing offensive line.

Need help on Defense?? Yes we do....... Faggins, Sanders, Dunta....... none of them seem special to me. CC Brown.... a personal favorite, but Glenn's a better tackler.....

Let's try to fix as many areas as we can, while we can, and not all but one, to see how it would look with better talent around it.

You don't need to see Ephraim Salaam on a better team to know we need to address that position.

You don't need to see Ron Dayne on a better team before you can identify a need for an upgrade.

You don't need to see Shantee Orr or Lewis Sanders or CC Brown on a better team before recognize the need to explore other options.

We need to explore alternative options at QB.

Peterson won't be there at 8, Rikki Williams is better than any running back you'll find in the 3rd or 4th round.

Now you can use your draft picks on Levi Brown in the first, Drew Stanton in the second, & the best Center you can find in the third. a 4th round DT/DE, a 5th on a LB, a 6th on a LB, and a 7th on corner.

Chester Pitts managed to start on our Line regardless who was brought in to make that decision, THat's got to say something about that bit of talent. & why does he have to be a first or second round pick?? Then Charlie Casserly(who has had success before coming to Texas), Dom Capers(who has had success before coming to Texas), Dan Reeves(who has built championsip teams before coming to Texas), Mike Sherman(who has had success before coming to Texas) & Gary Kubiak(who has had success before coming to Texas) all said the Talent on our offensive line was good enough to win. Replacing only a Center(with a ProBowler), and our Left Tackle with a third round pick.
But no matter what...... they always come up short.

In his 3rd year, J.P. Losman performed better than David Carr, despite being sacked more often. With comparable(IMHO less) talent around him.

In '06 Michael Vick's numbers are comparable to Carr's..... same kinda talent.. we have no problem saying Michael Vick sucks.

Rothlisberger..... sacked 46 times..... 3500 yards, 18 tDs, 23 INts.... are they blaming the team, or are they saying Ben needs to play better??

Marc Bulger..... sacked 49 times, but he's going to the proBowl. But that's probably because of Tory Holt.

Charlie Frye... 44 sacks....... Tell me what you think about him.

Jon Kitna....... 68 sacks..... 4300 yards... 21 TDs, 22 Ints.. would you consider that better??

Dallas gave up 37 sacks, only 6 less than we did on the year. but they were doing better than us, even when Bledsoe was the most sacked QB of the season. Romo getting sacked 21 times in ten games...... But he's going to the ProBowl.

whether you like it or not, those are the guys who performed in similar situations to Carr. But for some reason, Carr is the only one who's faults are not his own.

I think 98% of us (minus Kaiser Toro, Hook 'Em, SWTBound, and Vinny) have gone back and forth as to what we think of Carr. You, especially, said you (a) had Carr's back...and then after the draft you (b) criticized him all day long, every day and then you (c) said OK, OK I agree he should be given a shot, and now you are (d) back on the "Look at all the franchise QBs we passed on" boo-hoo-hoo stuff. I've been there, too, and it's a place we all live at from time to time. I have gone back and forth on DC a lot, as well.

Let's be fair; however, and understand that it's human nature to wish for someone to rise up and do well--We all, with the exception of a few here, felt that David might have a chance at redemption this past season. There's no shame in that, is there? If DC is a decent guy (as it appears he is) shouldn't the main emphasis of all this talk be about how we hope he can do well somewhere else? But instead, in our selfishness, we only care about ridding the team of someone. And some may argue that DC was selfish for taking thoe bonus money, fo rnot re-working the contract etc., but we are all feeding the beast of entertainment by watching the NFL and actively propping it up. We're all involved in this bloody mess together, IMO.

So let's stop acting like DC (or any other Texans player for that matter) is just some cog in the wheel of our sports fantasy lives...let's understand that he was given a shot this season, it didn't really work out, and the Texans organization tried to do what it felt was the best thing to do. But because it DIDN'T work out doesn't mean it was stupid.

It was as stupid as guessing either heads or tails on a coin flip.

DC will land in Minnesota or Tampa Bay. And then we'll all have to find a new Texans player to become the goat of this franchise. It's human nature. Plummer would do no better or worse, IMO, than DC. Jeff Garcia would also not do as well here. It's been said, and it's true: We don't have enough talent in all areas to really be a great team right now.

20 years went by before Chicago landed back into the Super Bowl. And we're griping about our condition in only 5 seasons worth of Texans football. We would need to go 15 more years to truly understand what it's like to be a suffering fan for an NFL team.

First of all... which moniker are you talking about?? which moniker fits..... what are you saying???

Then what have I been wrong about?? when have I ever said David will be gone?? I've been saying everyone is getting their hopes up too high, only to be let down, when David is starting for the Texans in '07.

I said I think David sucks, he has played poorly, we shouldn't have extended him. But he'll be back.

I've said I don't want Jake on this team, but I think he'll be an improvement over Carr, & replacing David with Jake will equal a winning season(maybe I didn't say it, but I've been inferring pretty hard). I've said I can see Kubiak selling to McNair, that we'd have a very good chance of getting to the playoffs with Jake. A good chance at 9-7 with Sage, and a decent shot at 8-8 with David. I'm saying I think Kubiak can make that argument believable to McNair, not that I believe it, if I did, I wouldn't have a problem with Jake coming to Houston.

I've done nothing but give my opinion, about what I think.... I can't be wrong, because that is how I feel, that is what I believe.

We won't know if I'm wrong about David starting, until the season starts, or David is traded...... whichever comes first.

I don't think Quinn is a franchise QB.... I don't think David is a franchise QB... & I'm not in the ABC Crew, while you and everybody else was saying that Kubiak can make David the next Plummer, I was saying you'd better hope Kubiak can make David better than Plummer will ever be.

From this list, I'd go with the Samson Satele, Drew Stanton, Doug Datish in that order.

Satele is right up there with Kalil in terms of technique and upside. I'd go with him. Blalock might be around in the 3rd...MIGHT. it'd be a tough decision between he and Satele.

I've thought about Blablock as a guard to take Chester Pitts' spot, then move him to LT, but I don't know how open Kubiak is to that idea.

McKinney is our best Center so far, Flannagan is our newest... but he's old. I would really like to see a Center who could at least compete for the job, and possibly start(because I have a feeling Kubiak is going to carry 7 or 8 OLmen on game day). Someone who should definitely be ready by 2008, with little to no drop-off from whatever we get in 2007.
