Ok, been away from the boards for a while. Infact I had to make a new name. My question is....

If we can manage to stay relatively healthy throughout the season, how will we fare over all? I went bold when I talked to my buddies. Now I'm locked in. I said if we stayed healthy we would beat Chicago overall, and make the playoffs.

Anyone eles share that opinion, or am I just blinded by loyalty? Tell me what you think. :crazy:

Now on the football side of the house. I'm taking a lot of heat over my prediction out here! I've a limited amount of time on this box to research. I've seen many of the Texans latest news, but how are we stacking up against the rest of the NFL?
 
We are an "On the way up" team. This season will likely be 8-8 with an OUTSIDE chance to be as good as 10-6, but we would need a lot of good breaks for that to happen.
 
Hey there Marine...I'm good ole US Army myself, I understand the "been away for a while" gig...I am thinking 9 maybe 10 wins and we will make a shot at the playoff's towards the end, my magic 8-ball is giving us a 50-50 shot at the wildcard.

Cool. He's still serving. Flying for Fed Ex for a couple years now, but he also flys in the reserve squadron out of Ft. Worth. He just got called up and is going to S. Korea to backfill. "At least it's not a f-ing carrier" are his words.

Anyway, the reason I say 8-8 is because the Texans play in an extremely tough division. We are 2-10 in-division over the first two years. Going 3-3 this season would be a tremendous improvement.

San Diego should be a win - that's 4-3.

Against the NFC North, I'm predicting 2-2. Detroit and Chicago won't be gimee's. Detroit won 5 games at home last year including late season wins against the Rams and PAckers. We play them in their home opener - in a dome - on the road - they had a fantastic draft and will be improved. Chicago in December is never easy. GB and Minn at home will be great games. That's 6-5

Denver and KC on the road will be tough. That's 6-7.

Cleveland at home. Chalk up 7-7.

Oakland at home and the Jets on the Road. I see a 1-1 split. We couldn't beat Testaverde at home so why should it be any easier to beat Pennington on the road in December? The Raiders? Who knows about them. They fortified their DL something fierce but their offense may leave something to be desired.

8-8.

Anything more is gravy and it means we're in the wild card hunt.

I could understand 7-9 depending on circumstances.

I would be disappointed at 6-10, again depending on circumstances (read: key injuries).
 
I'm in the 7-9 to 9-7 camp myself. I think this is the year we gain national respect and by the end of the year we will be in position for a serious Super Bowl run in 2005.
 
I'm in the 8-8 to 10-6 camp. Our defense could really be special in the second half of the season if they stay healthy.
 
9-7 or 10-6 and getting at least a wildcard slot but as I write this, there's something back there that tells me the Colts and Tutones are going to crater making the division a race between us and the Jags. How bout a 4 way tie ?
 
Injuries are a part of the game but as long as we stay relatively healthy, Imma stickin' with my 11-5 prediction.

It'd take a lot of luck to reach 10-6 and have a shot at the playoffs. I'd also be mildly disappointed with a 6-10 finish.
 
I'd think 9-7 would be a reasonable guess for our record this year. Sure, we went 5-11 last year, but in 5 of those 11 loses we had the lead in the 4th quarter. Besides the NFL is a leauge of parody. A team like Oakland goes from the Super Bowl to the bottom of the league. I'd give the Texans an outside chance at 10-6. As far as Chicago goes, they aren't an easy team, but they have a new coach with a new system and will have some difficulty picking it up. Look for the Texans to ink out a win against the windy city crew. Also, they have a legitimate shot at the playoffs. With the AFC North putting up only one or possibly two competitive teams it opens up a spot for the Texans to sneak in. The AFC West won't be much better with San Diego and Oakland bringing up the rear behind KC and Denver. Anyways, bet on the Texans beating Chicago and Detroit from the NFC North, and possibly winning against GB but thats more of a stretch. Minnesota will definately escape with a win against the Texans. Look for the Texans to have their first winning season in the division.
 
I am not so sure I would drop Oakland to the bottom of the heap. They have made a LOT of changes and we will have to see how it plays out. I suspect they will be at LEAST a middle of the pack team this year, possibly better. The Niners are the ones I think will be sucking wind big time this year. They don't seem to be making to many smart moves.

IMO, Detroit will be a lot tougher game than most are giving it credit for. They play tough at home in their dome and have upgraded the team. Of course the Vikes and Pack will be anything but pushovers. The Bears, well, they will probably be the most likely NFC Central win for us, not that we can't win the others, they will just be harder.

Don't worry, if you qualified your prediction with "if we stay healthy" - the sky is REALLY NOW - the limit. Everything is adding up great. The line is ready on both sides of the ball (looks like); we have depth; Carr is in his 3rd year and is pushing himself to take the team all the way; and D. Davis is not only talented, but tough, consistent, and ready to go. IF WE STAY HEALTHY I would say - 11-5. :soapbox:
 
Hey trooper, welcome to the boards. I like the line on both sides of the ball things are looking pretty good. It is funny - it used to be a weak point of the team. I have the feeling that we will dominate in short distance situations. However, not to burst your bubble but 11-5 I believe is a stretch. I agree with -V- and his prediction with a 7-9 to 9-7 range. If they win 6 games, have a top 15 defense, and top 10 in the league in rushing the ball, I'd take that at the end of the year as a successful season. I think that Carr needs to quit throwing picks - especially in the 4th quarter and Hollings needs to be able to competently fill in for Davis when he needs a breather. Not to beat a dead horse or anything but our offensive line will be very very good.

Dont get shot - we are all praying for you guys

My prediction is right in line with aj's--I see 8-8, for almost exactly the same reasons he provided. If we were in a cupcake division I'd see more success, but there will be some DOGFIGHTS just to get to that 3-3 mark in the division.

That said, there's no reason at all not to talk up the Texans. Even if you're wrong, you're still spreadin' the gospel. :)
 
I think we could win 11 of the games. I am not saying we will, but we have the potential to win at least 11. But to be more realistic, I am saying 10-6.
 
Thanks for the service. I would say that there is a 50-50 shot at getting 10 wins this year. The Texans really weren't that far last year if not for so many injuries.
 
I'm gonna say 8-8 and if we really try hard 10-6, judging on what we did the last few years... I sure hope I can get the games in California!
 
Totally healthy... meaning no injuries? 11-5.

But since that's impossible, I'll say 9-7.
 
Provided that Seth Payne et al are all healthy we can be 12-4.

No doubt about it.

For each significant injury deduct 1 game.

Well see how it plays out this year and all the Nostradamas predictions will be exposed.

We could have easily had a better record last year with 1/3 less talent. I am pumped with the possibilites. Look at the Panthers. They are going to be hard to beat again this year and the Texans are going to be even tougher.
 
at worst, we will go 7-9...at best, we will go 11-5 and get into the playoffs...i think we will go 9-7...
 
i don't like the pre-season predictions. we aren't even in training camp yet and we're thinking final record. football is a game of uncertainties, many of us want to say "if we remain healthy".....but even if the injury bug stays away this season, the schedule is about the toughest we could have drawn, detroit's no cupcake, the bears will love lovie's system, the pack is the pack, and the afc south is the afc south, 11-5 is a huge stretch for a 3rd year team, but 8-8 is right about par for the course, the titans will probably fall at reliant stadium and the colts and jags too, on the road, the jags may be a win, but other than that, nashville's always been tough, and the colts are brutal at home. but like i said, it's all uncertain anyway, so we'll just have to wait and see, but i do have to admit i love the optimism, but i think too much good talk before the season will ultimately jynx the fellas, few years ago somebody picked our beloved 'stros to win the world series, didn't even make the playoffs, that's all i'm saying, peace everybody.
 
A little more explaination for my 11-5 statement. Every team goes through injuries but the Texans have more depth this year at every position. Also, the players who have had to step in to play the last few yew years for the injured starters are battle tested and know exactly what it takes and the scemes of our starting team. It is like depth within depth.

11-5 baby! Write it down!
 
This is our year to get very, very close to the playoffs. If we can win four games (which I think we can) which were close ones last year, then we should have no problems with a 9-7 record. But football can be mysteriously deceiving at times. I can't wait. Go Texans.
 
8-8 that would be a succesful yr. I also say we go 2-0. I wouldn't say the Lions had a great draft, wait a year or 2 before we say that. They have good prospects. :jumpbanan
 
That is pretty much what most rational fans thought. Some of the less rational are having problems with how the season ended. I have heard of ugly wins, but this was a butt ugly LOSE. Not a great way to end the season, but it sure pointed out the need for improving the o-line.
