I think Sunday will be kinda rough

Doom Capers

Waterboy
Lets face it, SD may be one of the worst teams in football. But Ladanian Tomlinson will probably run all over us, which is a weakness it seems. Things could get ugly.

The right side of their front 7 is Igor Olshansky (rookie) and Steve Foley (Texans cast off). Look for lots of runs over Wand and the left side.

Foley is not a bad player, he helped our D out alot last year. It will be tough but we will be a very good running team this week. We will win.

I dont think LT could keep it up for the whole game against our D. He may get some big plays but I doubt he'll dominate.

We will win, but it's gonna be tough because the NFL is always tough. This is the NFL, which stands for "Not For Long" if you're Jerry Glanville and you can't coach well and you shoot your mouth off about the fans in Houston, lol.

The nation seems to think that we'll win so far:

I Can't Forsee Tomlinson Dominating Our D...125 Yards? Possibly...200 + Yards? Not Likely...This Should Be An Easy Win For Us...

I think the game rides on us establishing our running game early and often, with the Chargers secondary 3rd and long situation could be tough to convert. The chargers 3-4 has me slightly apprehensive as our running game was non-existant against the only 3-4 team we played this preseason (steelers,) on the flipside of course is that the O practices against a 3-4 week in and week out so they should certainly be familiar with how to block against it. I do expect us to win, though I'm not predicting a blowout, I think our O-Line and D will need some time to get in synch before we start ripping teams.

Game's are not won on paper remember when the Texans played the winless Bengals and were apparently on their way to a easy victor....... oh by the way we got our butts kicked ....we are playing a professional team on the first game of the season stats don't mean squat :thumbdown

any given sunday...on paper we should win...on paper...you never know what's gonna happen...all i know is i look on paper at the lines...what i see is a rookie 7th round pick going against g-funk...a rookie center going against payne/deloach and making calls against our 3-4...i see an old oben going against a young tough smith...i see our defense front three having no problem with their front five...but let's face it an given sunday anything can happen...as far as we know LT could have a career day...still i'm hopeing we win and make it three opening days in a row

"On paper" the Astros were supposed to be doing great all year long too ...
Well they must have finally looked at the paper !!!! :hehe:

The Chargers get two 1st rounders next year (courtesy of the Eli Manning trade). They better spend one on the O-line and one on the front 7 on D. They should end up with one of the top 3 picks in next year's draft (San Fran and Arizona are competition and play each other twice). Perhaps they could get the stud LT they passed in this draft.

LT is only half your problem.........

Antonio Gates is your other.....

And Igor on defense will frighten your OLine..guaranteed.

Our defense isnt like last year folks...you know ill be on back on monday to give you "i told you so"s .......

Ill go so far as to say Wes Welker will be an eye opener to you as well.

YOU ARE GOIN DOWN AND YOU HAVE REASON FOR YOUR CONCERN ON THESE BOARDS :hehe:

Wow. A Charger fan. I didnt know they existed. Nice try troll. Wes Welker; wasnt he the guitarist for Limp Bizkit? Good luck Sunday, and enjoy the #1 pick in the 2005 draft.

Two years ago the Chargers delivered an eye opening beat down of the Texans. That game was maybe the ugliest game in a season full of ugly games.

There's no way in the world I can see the Texans not preparing for the rematch. They're going to go out there and bring the payback Sunday. As nice as it is to see a Chargers poster talking up his guys (Whoever they are? Anybody know any of those other guys besides LT? Are you sure they're on your team Charger fan?) it won't make any difference. The Chargers are two years waiting to get this butt kicking.

The Payne Train's coming.

Damn here we are giving yall a few "compliments which i dont see why" and you come on here talking a bunch of BS. What do you expect us to do roll over and play dead,,,,how bout this i'll go to yalls message board Monday and tell ALL yall that we TOLD YALL SO . Ever heard of Andre Johnnson, Domanic Davis, David Carr, Corey Bradford, ok ok how bout Jamie Sharper, Jay Foreman, Aaron Gleen, Marcus Coleman ??? No well thats to bad otherwise i dont think ya woulda come on OUR web site. By the way good "LUCK" sunday.

With all due respect to you Houston folks here, I think you are in for a rude awakening on Sunday. True you have a nice crew of newly uninjured players. However, have you taken time to look at the preseason work of both teams? Your offensive front is going to get worked over, badly. They simply don't match up well against our um, no-names. Your back is skilled, but our run defense is not going to give him room. Watch the tape.

On offense, you will not stop our run, period. In the air, Dunta, who played too agressively all preseason, will be exploited often. Your sole hope and bright spot in the entire game is a potentially good pass rush, but just as you point to the rookie's in our O-line, you are relying on one in your rush.

31-13 Chargers. I'll be back on Monday to gloat. As far as the rest of your season goes, I wish you good luck, I like Carr, he's got heart.

With the trash you guys are talking about your team, I almost thought this was the Patriots board for a second. Maybe the Texans can win a few games before you guys start talking like your team is Super Bowl champs, huh?

Come back and gloat if you win Chargers fans. Just get your butts back here to take your lumps if you lose. That's all I ask.

Ok, for the sake of the argument and out of boredom I want to compare to two lines by size.
LT Seth Wand ------- 6'7" 327 lbs
LG Chester Pitts ----- 6'3" 320 lbs
C Steve McKinney ---- 6'4" 302 lbs
RG Zach Weigert ----- 6'5" 309 lbs
RT Todd Wade ------ 6'8" 317 lbs

LE Igor Olshansky ------- 6'6" 309 lbs
DT Jamal Williams ------- 6'3 305 lbs
RE Adrian Dingle -------- 6'3 272 lbs

Is the Chargers site accurate? 272 for a 3-4 Defensive End? Seems like he must have put on some weight since then because that seems more suited for a 4-3 DE.

In any case, "On Paper" as far as size, it seems to be going our way. Add to the fact our offensive line has practiced against the 3-4 for over two years now and SDs defense just implemented it this year.

I will point out that our worst offensive performance of the preseason was against Pittsburgh, which runs a 3-4 defense. So the "practiced against" it concept might not be a factor.

There is plenty to be worried about. No team is a cakewalk. We are starting 2 rookies and 8 out our 11 players on defense didn't play a lot at their positions last year. Our rookie CB has been torched a bit in preseason. We just don't have a lot of absolutes. Too many questionmarks to be giving us the outright win already. Can David Carr have a good QB rating? Will our defensive line hold considering the nagging injuries to Walker and Payne, 2/3's of our defense? Where has Robaire Smith been? I don't think I heard his name once this preseason. Can the backup D-line put pressure on the QB? Will Wong be able to get the QB against a 350 monster? Will the rookie Babin know all of his assignments? Can Dunta shake off his preseason struggles? Can Glenn hold up with his hammy problems? Can Coleman convert to Free Safety? Can Wand handle a full 4 qtrs of pressure? Can Pitts convert to RG? Can Davis stay healthy? Will the playcalling be better?

We are still a young team.

Yeah, it will be young against young. We have a lot of similar questions but we've seen very promising answers. The national press completely dismisses the team however so much of it has gone unnoticed. Should be an exciting game. But don't worry, if the unthinkable happens and the Chargers do indeed get thumped, I shall return to eat my prediction.

Chargers 31-13

We are still a young team.

If anything, the defense is getting old. The infusion of youth with Babin and Robinson was timely and sorely needed.

Aside from the two rookies there isn't a starter on the defensive side with less than 5 years experience. We have three defensive starters over 30 and several pushing 30 with anywhere from 6-8 years experience.

The defense is not young. It's primarily a veteran unit with two rookie starters.

CHARGERSWILLWHOOPU said:

Igor? Isn't he the sidekick for Dr Frankenstein?

The Chargers are now on the clock for the 1st Pick in the draft. Let the trade rumors swirl

Young as in they've only been together for 2 seasons there nitpicker. Young as in 8 of 11 defensive starters were not at those spots significantly last year.

My main concern is chemistry on both sides. There are a combination of new players (Robinson, Babin, R. Smith, Wade, Bruener), players in new positions (Wand, Pitts, Coleman, Wong, and for that matter Babin), and guys coming off injuries (Walker, Glenn, Payne and Baxter, if he starts) who will be starting. This list includes 5 of our front 7, as well as, 4 or 5 of our 7 blockers (if you include FB and TE as blockers) and 3 of our 4 in the secondary. Those are extraordinary numbers when you think about it.

That is why I refer to this season as a "transitional year". After this season and moving forward, I think our roster will only see a couple of changes yearly (as long as Capers is here).

All of this trash talking and it's only Thursday.......God I love Football!! Come on Sunday,Sunday,Sunday,Sunday,Sunday,Sunday,Sunday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's definitely a valid point. However, (correct me if Im wrong) hasn't Pittsburgh been running the 3-4 for forever now? San Diego on the other hand, is in its first year of the 3-4 which could change things a little. And I'm still wondering about their 272 lb defensive end.

Anyway, can't wait for all this blabbering to end so it can be decided on the field.

its nice to see that you guys have confidence...i mean, we're favored, we're playing the worst team in football last year, and we're playing a team WHERE THE PLAYER THEY PICKED DIDNT WANT TO PLAY FOR THEM!

cmon guys, nervous?

Chargers fans a lil cocky "you say ?" But thats cool with me sunday is only 3 days away and than i guess we'll see. but just a lil note the chargers SUCK !!! Oh yea i'm serious.

Come on back and gloat then. You are right about Carr but you forgot to mention the heart of the other 52 men on the roster. This team is ready.

-you have no recievers (even Dwight is out)
-your quarterback had the worst rating in the AFC last year
-your coach has verbally stated that his team has significant challenges to overcome this season to the media
-your team has perhaps the most incompetent owners in all of professional football
-your defense is laughable, Jammer is the only stand out
-your draft in 04 was weak
-LT is your only offensive option but he alone is not enough to win
-the staring rookies on our defense (Babin & Robinson) are first rounders - your rookie starters on offense are who? is a 7th rounder from where? at right tackle (big difference)
-your team is playing in the loudest stadium in the NFL against a team that has a very good record in season opening games

And you think a win and 31 points is possible...

It may be but it is not probable.

I think that you are still inhaling some of the smoke from those fires that were out there last year.

Please come on back - we'll give you a nice warm Texas welcome.

I do like Rivers though. He's got heart.

I've just interposed my responses. . .

-you have no recievers (even Dwight is out)--I'm not so sure you'll agree after Sunday. . .

-your quarterback had the worst rating in the AFC last year--Even so, we we're 6th in the AFC offensively, the Texans were? Oh yeah, dead last, on defense too.

-your coach has verbally stated that his team has significant challenges to overcome this season to the media--Well, he does tend to state the obvious with panache!

-your team has perhaps the most incompetent owners in all of professional football--Truer words have seldom been typed! You should have heard what an imbecile Alex Spanos came off as during a mid-game interview. It was horrifyingly embarassing.

-your defense is laughable, Jammer is the only stand out--I hope your coaches think so. Most analysts think our secondary is coming up. Our linebacking corps is deep and talented. Oh yes, and the Colt's first offense (incl. Manning) failed to get more than 3 and out each time they took the field. But of course, preseason tape is just that.

-your draft in 04 was weak--According to who??? The lowest grade I saw was B+. Our second rounder will have an impact (mostly against your o-line and RB)

-LT is your only offensive option but he alone is not enough to win--Gates is great, but I will agree with you to the extent that Brees has to step up or we're done.

-the staring rookies on our defense (Babin & Robinson) are first rounders - your rookie starters on offense are who? is a 7th rounder from where? at right tackle (big difference)--Our vets, Oben, Goff, and Fonoti will have zero problem with them. That you can take to the bank, however, I will reserve my comments regarding Hardwick and Olivea for Monday.

-your team is playing in the loudest stadium in the NFL against a team that has a very good record in season opening games-- 2/0 is hardly a streak of utter domination. You don't hear me recalling the total whupping we handed you last time as indicative of anything here do you?

And you think a win and 31 points is possible... --definitely

It may be but it is not probable.

I think that you are still inhaling some of the smoke from those fires that were out there last year.--Nah, just a contact high from the entertainment industry here in LA

Please come on back - we'll give you a nice warm Texas welcome.--Promise to be gentle. . .

I do like Rivers though. He's got heart.

Should be a great game! Good luck after Game One, Texans are good folks.

I don't think we will have a problem with Tomlinson. As a matter of fact, I believe the Texans will win this game by 10 points.

Doom Capers said:

Ok. I see the point that LT is a great if not the greatest RB in the league. But the chargers can't run the ball the entire game. It seems that the starting QB is going to have to step up. Oh wait. It's Drew Brees huh? Sorry. 27-10 Texans lol:

okay --- i'll avoid smak, cuz i'm all smacked out today..... so here is the truth about the Chargers..... compare what i say with what you observe in the game on sunday..

1) Tomlinson is virtually unstoppable.....

2) OL --- chargers fans have been ripping the OL to pieces for a couple years now.... but what it really comes down to is that OL can be separated into 2 catagories... run blocking and pass blocking.... the chargers run blocking part of it gets an "A".... the pass blocking part gets an "incomplete" at this point.... i'm happy to say that the chargers didn't give up one sack this preseason in 4 games.... we acquired Oben (starter in superbowl for Buccaneers) to play left tackle..... Fonoti is brilliant against run, getting better vs. pass...... our Center is a rookie --- yes, he is a rookie, but a very talented rookie (how many rookie centers were drafted at the top of the 3rd round? it's rare)... so then we have Goff who's known for being very good run-blocker and average pass blocker... Then we have Olivea (rookie) as our right tackle... Olivea is the biggest question mark..... sure he played perfectly in his 4th preseason game, but the game before that he was havnig some trouble... so as Texans fans, you'll want to mainly keep an eye on the right side of the chargers OL regarding getting any pressure on the QB... because Oben holds his own....

3) TE --- Antonio Gates is fantastic.... he never played a down of football in college, just played basketball... dropped off the radar in last years' draft.... so after he learned to play football last year, he started playing around the 9th game of the season --- then proceeded to improve quickly, then lit it up at the end of the season..... he's dominant in both phases, receiving and blocking and he's our 2nd biggest star on offense... you'll see a lot of him matched up with your coverage LBs.... good luck..

4) WR --- mostly unproven...... Eric Parker is as consistant as it gets, but he's not particularly amazing in any phase..... he just gets open and makes great catches... he's not a burner, but he's fast... (he's not Andre Johnson though)... Parker's problem has been injuries, not performance...... Caldwell is our phenonom with low IQ..... he's got everything you would ever want except a brain... so he's been a slow growth player --- our offensive coordinator, brees, and Schottenheimer seem to think he could be a pro bowler this year since he's finally "gotten it" in training camp this year ---- but us chargers fans would like to see him "get it" during a regular season game..... anyway, our WRs are mostly unproven, so you could expect to win this battle, but down count on it 100%... they will make some plays here and there..

5) Drew Brees is not the problem and everyone here in SD knows it..... He was never the problem...... his OL gave way too many pressures last year, thus the revamping of OL this offseason.. Brees won't go deep on you, but he seems to be the chargers greatest sack alluder of all-time.... he just senses pressure somehow and always manages to slip away... he doesn't take off and run for many yards, but he certainly knows how to avoid the pressure.. He has a little bit of accuracy issues when throwing over 25 yards...

6) The reason for the chargers terrible year last two years is because of the hideous defensive coordination of Dale Lindsay (who was fired after the season).... it was plain as day --- we have good talent on defense buy this Lindsay dumbass got his first chance ever to be a DC and he completely failed... by the end of the season, still the players were saying "who's got that guy, and who's got this guy, where i am i supposed to be on this play"..... schott took Lindsay's power away and had to friggin micromanage the damn defense in the middle of the damn games in the 2nd half of the season..... Thus the hiring of 3-4 master Wade Philips...... YES!!!!!!!!!!!

7) DL ---- you wont find one chargers fan that is unhappy with our DL.... serious bodies there...... basically 3 defensive tackles.......

8) our LBs are considered the deepest, strongest part of our team ---- yes, the chargers lead the league in sacks during the preseason, but that was just preseason.... we'll see what happens during the regular season...... Donnie Edwards is the leader on defense and is just plain great......

9) CBs ---- a couple of 1st rounders, Jammer and Sammy Davis --- we like our CBs a lot, but Dale Lindsay had them so confused, it was a catastrophy last year until Schott micro managed he damn defense...

10) Safties --- Terrance Kiel is awesome..... Wilson is average, but overall we like them a lot.....

it all comes down to the Defensive Coordinator.... That is the reason for the bad season last year...... our offense was perfectly fine other than weaknesses in pass blocking which have bee addressed this year in offseason..... the defense brought this team to the dregs.....

special teams are excellent in all phases except for one --- kick off distance.... Kaeding will kick mostly to about the 10 or 15 yard line, so expect to get some good field position in this way.....

good luck..... i still think the Bolts win by 10 or more, but hey, it's a game, anything can happen....

the only problem i see for our defense is sammy davis against andre johnson corey bradford is a non factor going against quentin jammer he will be shut down... but davis played well at hte end of lat year and the pre season so we will see.... my prediction 27-21 chargers i dont see davis having a big game with all pro jamal williams and donine edwards clogging the middle... you say igor olshansky as if he is some small rookie scrub... take a look at htis guy he is a monster.... you think brock lesnar or david boston is big... look at this guy....... with ben leber.... the guy who sacked david carr for a safety in 2002 blitzing and coming off of his blind side i predcit lots of turnovers for you.. our blitzez come from every where.... if you do manage 3 touchdowns it will be because of andre johnson beating sammy davis and setting up runs for davis.... if he doesnt beat davis..... texans are in for a long day.... and for someone who said 125 for tomlinon possibly 200 plus not likely..... its more like 125 definitely 200 plus possibly

i agree with number 6 boy oh boy did lindsey suck.. .i mean he had jr seau marcellus wiley rodney harrison donnie edwards ben leber raylee johnson jamal williams quentin jammer prolly forgetting somebody but more than enough capable players on defense and would play weak *** zones instead of coming after the qb and then last year wouldnt blitz when the pass rush wasnt effective what an ***** he was i was callin for his head in 02 shoulda brought in bill arnsparger and replaced him with him instead of him just being an advisor...
oh and stan humphries was our best sack alluder... he just slung it 40 yards into tony martin's hands while gettin knocked the fug out lol

I am just amazed that Bolts fans feel it sooooo important to insert their own propaganda on an opposing teams message board. They have a hard time understanding *cough cough '12b' cough cough* that this team is only in its 3rd year. How long have the Chargers had to put a winning team on the field? If memory serves me correctly - I know that it is longer than 3 years - and even with that the Texans still had more wins last season then a team that has been around the NFL for decades. Just awful.

And should you be surprised that the Texans were last in a majority of categories - no. It was expected. Especially with as many unfortunate injuries and lack of depth that they had. Everyone knew that winning 6 games last year was a stretch for Houston. I just see your argument as wholly over hyped and ignorant - maybe the climate does something to people's brains in California.

The comments from Charger fans include this. A) LT B) an unproven Igor rookie and C) cast off veterans that were going to be cut anyway but Panos & Co decided to give draft picks away for them - akk emm **Oben** (clear throat)

Very impressive.

Well Tomlinson is. Not so sure about the rest.

You talk like your changing our minds or something.

We came here to chat since a few of you came to our board to chat. Sorry to intrude. Any way "cough cough", injuries are part of the game, we had them too. And as far as your three year excuse goes, you could apply your logic to every losing team in the NFL beside the Texans, it makes no sense. Conversely, your coach took his last franchise to the playoffs in two years.

Excuses are like something everyone has and they all smell like, well you get the picture. Notably, you don't hear me making ANY excuses.

You guys are all welcome here. It's nice to have a team come in as underdog peading their propaganda as to why we should be scared. It sure beats a good team coming in with their fans stating the obvious. Hope is nice. Even for the hopeless.

good game Texans fans...... your team looks good.... i really like your offense..... as what usually happens in games, turnovers make a big difference.... Schott is the all-time turnover ratio leader in the nfl and makes it priority number one every year and never stops talking about it.... it's his #1 preaching and as usual, schott's team won the turnover battle.....

i think your team is on it's way to a decent season..... good luck..

Good Game I Thought I Would Be Talking A Whole Lot Of Smack. But My Team Did All The Talking For Me Great Game. Prolly One Of The Most Exciting Of The Year

What was that Vinny??? I missed that. Anyway, the Texans played a hell of a game. I won't gloat because we had 4 takeaways and won by only a touchdown, that is not so promising. It should have been a rout.

Your defense makes outstanding open field one-on-one tackles. Babin was very impressive, minus the cheap shot on LT. Had LT been injured, I think he might have been barred from SD for life.

You manhandled our D nicely in the first half, but once we made a few adjustments and schemes for the second half, I think we showed our mettle.

All in all, a good gutty back and forth game. What football is all about. Good luck with the rest of your season.

Oh yeah, and tell Carr to dump the Prince Valiant haircut!!!

Cheers!
