At least Mario and the others had the balls to stick around and answer questions about their performance, even though they knew it would be negative.

What a coward. I lost a lot of respect for the guy when I read that.
 
Wow. Maybe Kubiak sent him home rather than have him explode in front of the reporters. From what I have heard he is a rather "passionate" guy.

Even still, he should have been a man and taken the questions. It was an embarrasing performance by the defense.
 
I was not aware that he wasn't there for comment. Hanging a player out to answer the harsh media critcism and the defesive coach leaving is a low thing to do. However, there could be more to this story that we are not aware of. As far as Mario having to take the questions, it goes with the territory of being the #1 pick. You take the negative when it's bad and you take the glory when it's good. 54 million dollars will make you smile and take a lot of butt reamings by the press, I'd stand there and get chewed out for that amount of money. :rolleyes: Hopefully Richard Smith was just so shocked in his defensive performance that he had to get a head start on game planning for the Indy game to save face.
 
Im not so sure about the game planning for indy part, but maybe there was something else in his life other than football that needed his immediate attention. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now, but it does seem suspicious.

I don't know what the circumstances are, but some head coaches want all questions to come through them. Maybe Kubiak didn't want Smith to be available.

Like I said, I don't know.
 
Yeah, he could have had something else more pressing to do or Kubiak could have sent him home, but it still looks bad. They stunk it up, it was his responsibility and he should have hung around even if it was just to say "we've got a lot to work on". That shows leadership and our defense desperately needs it right now.
 
Coach K probably sent him home because he didn't want the soundbite to be:

"Bleep bleep, bleepity bleep, next question you bleeping bleep."
 
I hope Kubiak sent him home because that would seem cowardly if he did so on his own just to avoid questions. Maybe John McClain, Richard Justice, or John Lopez will have something to say about it in their blogs on www.chron.com
 
My biggest complant is how we just let McNabb just sit back and pick our defense apart. :brickwall i dont recall many or any LB's blitzing. We cannot let Payton just sit back there, or ist's going to be real ulgy this week:hairpull:
 
I agree this is supposed to be an aggressive attacking defense but yet i can only recall 2 or 3 blitzes the entire game.

We got no pressure on the QB and if this happens against Peyton boy it's gonna be a LOOOOONNNNGGGG day for the team and the fans.

I don't know what's going on with Richard Smith and why he was nowhere to be seen but he really should have been available for media questions after the game. On the other hand if there was some off-field issues that need attention then I understand.

But really do hope that he was planning for Indy cause we can not have this happen again.

LOL, I was thinking the same thing. I could only imagine what the Houston media would have done to him after that game. It's bad enough the fans are ripping his head off, the media would have wanted his footballs in a sling, LOL. But I do think we are owed an explanation sometime before they leave to Indy. But then again, sometimes we are owed nothing....

It wasn't the loss that got me, it was the way we lost...

Who didn't have high expectations, especially after watching our boys walk over them in that first drive. It just got me we didn't continue it....

First of all, it's a complete leap of logic to assume Smith was cowardly and avoided the press when you have no idea what actually happened. What a freakin joke, and typical knee jerk reaction. Typical.

On the blitz issue, I don't know if it's true, but I heard someone say that maybe it is a standard approach to the WCO to not blitz a lot. I'd like to know more about how teams generally attack the WCO, and especially McNabb.

I agree here. I'd like to know how that attack normally works as well from someone who has a better understnading of the WCO than myself. I don't see Philly games very often and don't see how teams normally play to control their offensive schemes. Any light on this subject would be appreciated.

I almost started a new thread to say this, but I will post it here instead.
In the third quarter of the game, I felt as if the defense had given up. To me they looked beaten, and remembered thinking that Kubiak, or maybe Smith was going to lay into them for their lack of effort. I could be wrong. To be honest, I 'd had more than a few beers by that point, but I thought they were playing like they were defeated...
 
In his blog, it was said that Philly max protected. If this is so, then I am fine that we did not get pressure, but how in the heck did their recievers get open then?????
Didn't we have to do that, and we could not get open at all last year????

Perhaps. But until I hear otherwise I was not impressed with him leaving and I do not think it shows leadership.

We'll see after next week what kind of leadership he has..........

Win or lose, I expect a better showing from our D.

I thought that, too. Especially when McNabb kept having more and more time in the pocket with no pressure as the game progressed. It was like they were waiting for him to dump the ball off so they could react.

And yes - they played like they had already lost. And we weren't behind by that many points to be giving up already - they were definitely psyched out.

No doubt, man. But with our offense only taking up 9 minutes of the second half, I think these dudes were just beat down tired.

It all goes back to ball control, and more specifically, our o-line creating holes for a running back to go through. Establishing a consistent running game is so important for so many reasons.

That's my take, right now. I have no idea why he ducked out on interviews; maybe he had a perfectly good reason. In terms of his playcalling though, my impression was pretty harsh.

IMO (right now) we were just outcoached yesterday.

Still waiting to watch the tape of it tonight. Will post to either confirm or correct my impression then.
 
I have a short story to you people that one of my college professors once told me (true story). Once in a traffic jam there was a man who was swerving in and out, driving on the edge of the road, passing everyone stuck in the jam. An angry driver who was ridding out the traffic observed what the man was doing. Extremely disgruntled by what he was seeing the driver doing, he pulled out and started following the man. Once there was a point where the driver could not pass around anymore and had to stop, the angry driver jumped out of his car and started slashing the mans tires right there in traffic. The driver of the car jumped out of his car and started screaming “stop! stop! stop!” The disgruntled man started beating the driver and left him lying on the road in a pile of blood. The cops arrived and arrested both men. The disgruntled man had been sitting in the jail cell for about 2 hours when a deputy came to the cell to speak with him. The disgruntled man asked where the other driver was, and the deputy responded by telling the man was in the hospital. The disgruntled man asked the officer if he hurt the drive that bad and the officer responded by telling the disgruntled man no. The deputy went on to say that the man was at the hospital because his son was killed in a car accident!

The moral of the story is that jumping to conclusions about why people do certain things is not needed. No one here is a coach or management official for the team and to get upset about something you have no clue about can sometime make you look foolish. I am sure Kubiak knows what’s going on and if anyone should be held responsible for any loss it would be the head coach.

The defensive players couldn't apply pressure, we just lack talent on the defensive side of the ball. When Smith would call a blitz package, the Eagles had a nice screen toss waiting. I saw at least 2 times when the Texans were going to blitz and the Eagles called a RB out of the backfield for a pass. The Eagles had our number for whatever reason.
 
I could care less if Richard Smith didn't do an interview after the game. What pisses me off is how he called the game.

First off he played contain to much, or at least from how our players acted that's what it looked like. The reason I say this is because McNabb is not Vick, you give him enough time in the pocket he will do what he did yesterday. Talk about he's ready for any blitz we throw at him you're tripping. Here's my reasoning, in the pre-season I saw Williams drop into coverage, this gives us the ability to perform zone blitzes. You do that with Mario and blitz from the other side, McNabb would have hesitated to throw to the RB if he was on Mario's side and he would hesitate more often because he would have to worry about who dropped into zone. Hence the beauty of zone blitzing.

Second not utilizing all his weapons. We all saw the 3-4 front against the Broncos in the pre-season, yet this was totally absent yesterday. I mean why do you put that package into the schemes if you're not gonna use it. Putting pressure on the QB is not only a physical challenge, but also a mental challenge and giving him pre-snap looks that he is not prepared for is a big part of throwing QB's off mentally. I was expecting to see more exotic things from our D compared to our pre-season, but yesterdays game looked like the worst defensive performance thus far.

Thirdly and this has bothered me for a while now. What the hell is he really doing with Mario. We drafted him, because we needed a pass-rush, the assumption here is that he can potentially be our best pass-rusher, yet on third downs a likely pass situation, they shift him inside. Third downs are the most important downs because if you prevent the conversion you get off the field. Yet, the pass-rusher we drafted is moved to the middle, this is really off. If Mario isn't going to be used as a pass rusher on third down that means you have more faith in another DE to pass-rush, meaning you didn't really need Mario, this is what I think is making our DC look stupid. I don't seeing him move in once in a while, but to do it on every third down is just stupid. We didn't want a part time player in Bush, but yet we turn right around and make Mario a part time DE. C'mon now get that **** straight.
