I hear Capers say good things, I hear OL coach saying it is improving, but hear posters who were there Saturday that OL stunk. So which is it they are improving or they are not improving. Thanks

I attended practice last night and Wand played well against all comers as far as I could tell as contrasted to an embarassing play captured on tape and repeated by local channels from the previous practice where Peek put a Bull Rush on him and knocked him, and knocked him backwards and flat on his butt. But from what I could see, Wand redeemed himself last night.D-ReK said:According to Keith over at HPF.com, Riley replaced Wand last night as the 1st team LT and did a good job in run-blocking but wasn't too good in pass protection...This is definitely disheartening to me because I was hoping Wand would solidify LT this year, but there's still time...Maybe the temporary(?) demotion will light a fire under him...

You don't see quite as many big fat guys at Center as you will at Guard. Smaller (if you can call it that) guys are able to hike the ball and come off their blocks better than big overstuffed linemen types. I wouldn't read to much into the camp O-line battles until we go full live contact. Lineplay is about contact and how you deal with it. Obviously, feet are important, but we will see Wand's progress or lack of progress once Denver comes to town.sulli60 said:Its too bad the center is considered the quarterback of the O-Line it would be a perfect place for a bulldozing run blocker like Riley. It has to be next to impossible to be offsides when your snapping the ball. He'd probably hit his belly with the ball everytime he tried to snap it too.

Im all for giving them another shot.. but I dunno if Carr will recover from another bad year.
eriadoc said:That's my concern. So many people bash on Carr like he needs to make progress, but psycholoically, I don't see how he can get much better when he knows he has time to read to AJ and then dump off. Even on the plays where he does have time, he's probably so spooked, he doesn't react well.
Wolf said:What I am reading is defense has the edge against the OL. I was reading about Weary getting beat by TJ or wand/riley getting beat by Peek/anderson etc.
well the good thing is that OL has some fllm to watch and learn..
nunusguy said:I'm startin to feel sorry for poor ole Seth Wand, he justed got trashed on Channel 13, again ! This time rook TJ made him look like a fool like Peek did
the other day on some video 13 played. But what was different on this incident, Seth was out there explain & apologizen to 13 about screwin up.
You know how the media likes to shape opinion - I'm thinkin channel 13 will be getting one of those polls before long where they ask who should be the LT: (A) Wand (B) should it be Riley (C) should it be Pitts,(D) or another ? But before I let 13 get its way, I want to see atleast a couple of preseason games with all the principals on display befor I make up my mind.
Wand has been going against Peek (they are both first team, Capers is experimenting with Riley on first team every now and then) in training camp, and Wand held his own on Monday's practice against both Antwan and Robaire.Runner said:Anybody think that they have Wand playing with the second team just so he can go against Peek?

i agree with you. i think the line will know where each one of them is and have a better pickup of blitzes and d-line switches. i also think they are playing with a chip on their shoulders because of all the negative media and fan comments about them.buddyroe said:Last year the Texans changed from man blocking
to zone blocking and there where blown assignments,
coupled with injuries they looked pretty bad as a whole.
With a year under their belt in the new system and
good health they should be greatly improved.

We haven't even played a game yet.Tailgate said:The latest quote from Carr on the O-Line:
(On getting hit less this year compared to last year) Yeah, I think that its just a matter of what Ive seen so far in practice. Usually, we have three guys running through or we have guys that arent accounted for because the protection is asked to be helped to long or just one of those reasons. I think we havent had nearly as much as we had last season.

Ibar_Harry said:Yes, Vinny, he said based on practice of this year vs last year. He's a company man and to his credit he won't pan the offensive line.
