HoustonTexans.com Mock Draft

Rookie
Ok if any of you guys know me then you will know that I'm not happy with that mock draft. I agreed with it up until it got to the Bucs. Why? Because they're gonna take BMW so technically I also didn't like what they did with the Vikes. What do you guys think bout that mock?

Nobody knows what the Bucs are going to do. Its all speculation.

did someone say speculation :woot I love speculation & do it all the time, here is proof-

1. Vikings- Mike Williams Williams (6-4 5/8, 229) ran his 40s in 4.58 and 4.59. remember this is the Moss pick the Vikings make sure they secure clousre to that transaction with an equally electric talent without the off field baggage. the 49ers are more inclined to trade down than any team because of many needs, new player personnel Scot McCloughan & coach Mike Nolan. when Moss came out of Marshall he was a skinny 6'3 3/8" 203 lbs. he did have superior speed 4.39 but he carried 25lbs less.

2. Miami- Ronnie Brown The complete package of skills, blocking, receiving, speed & power Ronnie is just what the Dophins need to balance the offense from the vacum Ricky Williams left. Brown (6-0¼, 233) ran his 40 times in 4.48 and 4.51. 19 reps. lots of upside with little wear & tear to the body, generally rated as the top RB in the draft.

3. Chicago- Braylon Edwards Very polished, great size, speed & hands (6-2 7/8, 210) ran his 40s in 4.48 and 4.50. A proven talent who shows up when the pressure is on in big games, the Bears despertately want Braylon and will add value to a savy Crennel who's focus will be on 3-4 guys anyway.

4. Cleveland- Derrick Johnson Speaking of Crennel he does what was done to the Browns last year swaps places & still bags his #1 guy to begin his new era in Cleveland. Johnson is 6-3¼ and 243 pounds. He lifted the bar 21 times & runs a 4.54 40.

5. Tampa Bay- Cadillac Williams Gruden trys to throw smoke screens to aquire Williams but the Vikings are not fooled and make the trade to secure thier pick, Miami is smart & takes the #1 RB Ronnie Brown so the Buc's settle for accomplished Auburn tailback Carnell Williams (5-10 7/8, 217) 40 times of 4.50 and 4.51 and deceptively strong 19 reps.

6. Titans- Antrell Rolle Do you honestly think Floyd Reese will pass on the top CB when this is dire need? I don't think so and replace Rolle with Rolle (6-0 5/8, 197) ran 4.49 and 4.52.

7. 49ers- Aaron Rodgers What the heck they still get their man & pick up another high pick (#18) in the process. I won't bore ya'll with QB measureables suffice to say Aaron is generally regarded as the #1 rated QB in the west coast offense, he will be tested early like David Carr was but comes & has a similar background in Tedford.

8. Texans- Cedric Benson 5-10 3/8 and 225 pounds. He lifted the strength bar 18 times. In the 40, he was timed as low as 4.51 and as high as 4.59. I think the Texans love this guy & why not is this not the type of franchise back Casserly has coveted since signing on as GM? he is a workhorse back and along with Domianck Davis together they should alieviate alot of that pressure David Carr has been feeling. with DD injury report/track record & Cedric's durability & talent for finding seams in a zone blocking scheme I feel trading up to aquire Benson is justfied, if it spoils some draft party's oh well in due time you will get over it believe me.

9. Washington- Troy Williamson Two inches shorter than Moss 6'-1 3/8" the same weight 203 lbs & speed 4.38 he gives the Skins a big sized speed package to stretch the defense which has been collapasing the running game & shutting down the offense. he will have to improve his route running and not take plays off, like somebody else we all know but he should add exactly what Gibbs is looking for in a WR.

10. Detroit- Shawne Merriman (6-2, 274) is quite the impressive 4-3 DE or eventually could be converted to a OLB for the 3-4 should the Lions change schemes along with the rest of the NFL. He has the speed 4.69 and 4.65 & quickness 4.24 in the short shuttle to be a playmaker for the Lions. this should really bolster thier defensive front and easily the BPA.

11. Cowboys- Adam Pac Man Jones (5-9 5/8, 183). He ran his 40s in 4.38 and 4.41. the Cowboys are going to grab the best CB available, along with his return skills he could be play a big part in turning around a battered secondary, they may try to pull a switch with Detroit for Merriman but don't think Detroit will blink except for a lot of bling. Terance Newman, Roy Williams & Adam Pac-Man Jones would be nothing to sneeze at.

12. Chargers- Alex Barron (6-7½, 320) for his size he is exceptionally fast 4.86 and 4.83. He has excellent footwork & long arms 38¼ inch arms but needs to get stronger (19 reps) which I'm sure he will as a pro. I thought the Chargers blew it last year by not taking Gallery because I had faith in Brees (which was proven out) but the trade & pick worked out, now they use that pick on protection for thier investments.

13. Arizona- Alex Smith I'm not exactly sure what the Texans would have to give up to move into Arizona's positon, maybe our 2nd (still think it would be worth it) but Green can still snag his heir apparent to Josh McCown here with the 13th pick, and address RB & CB latter being both positons are deep in this draft, I think this an excellent move for the Cardinals. Alex will do exceptionally well in the desert, he will be running that offense and throwing to weapons like Fitzgerald & Anquan Boldin.

if we move up and take benson i will be very disapointed.

duly noted on record

why would you be? an interesting approach that I agree with is that Cedric Benson represents the best value & surest RB talent in this draft if you want to discount that fact

here is a average of points accumulated per position and see just where Cedric falls http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=nfl+draft+history&ei=UTF-8&fr=sbc-web&fl=0&x=wrt
see the part where Benson is clearly the #1 rated RB, if he falls to the #8 spot and the Texans can work a deal, just consider the possibilites.

to be honest some of the picks on that draft dont make much since.
49ers GOOD
Dolphins GOOD
Browns I think Cleveland will go Derrick Johnson or Shawne Merriman. Dilfer will be their QB for next year or 2.
Bears GOOD
Tampa to me will go C. Williams. either him or M. Williams i dont even think Benson is in the running. to me its Caddilac Williams.
Titans Pac-man is the pick by far. He has other qualities that titans could use. I dont even think Rolle is in the running. They will trade down if Johnson and Pac-man arent on the board.
Minnesota GOOD.
Arizona will go either Rolle or Rodgers... I have heard a source say he believes Rodgers has in the inside track on that pick.

Despite my campaigning for us to not select Barron, he still won in a landslide and is the 13th pick in our mock:thumbdown ...My email made the feedback section, though :thumbup ...

Cedric Benson. The same guy that said that he'd rather win the Heisman than beat OU. (He averaged 2.9 ypc vs OU.) Uhhh....no thank you!

Could we please have a few more options with our picks. :loser Oh wait, nevermind, NFL teams only get to choose from four players. :slap:

I think people should just get over this. Being mad at Cedric, would be like getting mad at a US soccer player for saying he would rather win the world cup, as MVP, than beat Mexico. It just doesnt make alot of sense to be mad at him for it.

It's not the same at all. The World Cup is a team win, and is actually the pinnacle of team achievement in that sport. Yes, MVP is individual, but you can't win that individual award without your team doing something pretty special. The Heisman has no such requirement.

The implication here is that if Benson had to choose between winning the Heisman and winning the OU game that he would sell his team out for the individual award. Of course, such a situation wouldn't necessarily arise, but it is still a point of concern.

Take into account that for him to actually win the Heisman he would most likely HAVE to BEAT OU ..... Think he knows this when he makes this statement ? I think so :hmmm:

irrelevant. the statement is clearly one or the other, not one leading to the other.

If you listened to him explain that comment it sounds a lot better. He grew up wanting to play football and winning the Heisman trophy, he didnt grow up wanting to beat OU. At least he is honest about it. Don't think that he didnt want to beat OU because he did.

I think it IS relevant because prior to the loss to OU he was the FRONT RUNNER for the Heisman and had they won that game he PROBABLY would have continued to be . He knows a loss to OU completely spoils his chances to win the award ....
In todays game winning that specific award your team has to pretty much run the table ..... how bout the QB from Purdue .... Kyle Orton took over the front runner position after UT's loss to OU until he and his team fell apart late in the season . Orton was also a projected early first round pick at that time , Now Orton has dropped from a sure first rounder to a possible 3-4th round pick.

Note: Jason White (OU) winning last year despite a loss LATE in the season was overshadowed by the very good numbers he put up and the fact that the other contenders for the award also had losses on their resume .

an action always has a reaction .....

If anything the pick of Benson would be a waste because you use your first pick for a definitive starter at your weakest point.

Houston has no problems selling tickets so they dont need a hometown hero unless its johnson to fill a glaring need at LB.

we will probably go OLBsince that appears to be the most readily available position to us at 13 unless we want a top tier defensive playmaker then we trade up. It would be great to get Benson if DD had never done a good job at RB. then Benson would be the guy we look at this year. right now our most glaring weakness is our pass rush. followed by poor O line play. then it would be our front 3 on defense.

drafting benson let alone trading up to draft Benson would put Cass and Capers under heavy scrutiny because of that we couldnt draft the defensive help and depth needed in this years draft, so if there is an injury to one of our defensive starters we are back to 2003 again.

He grew up wanting to play football and winning the Heisman trophy

nothing wrong with honesty, and of course the heisman has allure. can't fault him for admitting his priorities, but i can decide if he is a player i want on my team or not.

I think it IS relevant because prior to the loss to OU he was the FRONT RUNNER for the Heisman and had they won that game he PROBABLY would have continued to be...

the question clearly divides the choices...cedric benson getting the heisman or cedric benson helping texas beat OU. the only oprative word is 'or', essentially this or that. it is a hypotheticaly absolute question, so that whatever is chosen is completely absent of the other choice. if he wanted an inference to tie beating OU with winning the heisman he could have expounded. he sure didn't have a problem with explaining his answer, so there really is no other way to take it. i would even go as far as to say whoever asked the question was probably trying to bait him into answering something like you've proposed and was probably taken back by his candid response. they were looking for "well if beating OU leads to the heisman then looks like i gotta beat OU *insert fake laugh and smile*" instead of "the heisman has been my dream, beating OU hasn't".

We could argue this point till the end of time ..... problem is , neither did he beat OU or win the Heisman .
