Houston Texans 2025 Training Camp

Marks is a 3rd down back. He's never going to be RB1.
We'll have to agree to disagree. I do agree he's not a "power" back. But if Caley installs more gap/spread to the offense, I see Marks as a perfect fit for this offense. I may be totally off base on this, and he doesn't have near the speed, but what came to mind is a Tony Dorsett style runner. If he was a step faster, he may have gone higher in the draft.

Just to add to my Tony Dorsett analogy, I read, at first Landry tried to fit Dorsett into the Cowboy's conventional offense and it wasn't working. He then changed the blocking scheme and told his OLmen to just straight on block and hold, letting Dorsett choose his seam and accelerating through it. This is Marks' forte.

Never say never..but I'm with SB on Marks. I see him as a 3rd down back. He's undersized for lead back but I'm always open minded. Let's see what the young man does in the preseason. Should get plenty of reps in those games.

He's 5'10 207.

He's the same size or bigger than guys like James Cook, De'Von Achane, Jahmyr Gibbs, Aaron Jones, Bucky Irving, Kyren Williams, or Christian McCaffrey.

I don't know that he's got the goods necessarily to be a full time RB1, but I also don't know that size would be his downfall.

Play that Stroud's shoulder was injured in the Jets game. A hard fall onto the elbow, especially with the arm extended, can classically transfer the force to the shoulder and lead to an A-C joint shoulder separation, especially in a quarterback who might be bracing for a fall during a tackle/sack.

.....II hope that all this converts to the expected improved performance. I still remain guarded that strength and speed was Stroud's last year's problem. If you're willing to give Stroud the benefit of the doubt...........that the offensive line and the play calling was a significant problem, I still find it difficult to get past the type of shoulder injury that would have best been treated with surgical reinforcement.....

....When an NFL QB sustains a significant A-C joint separation [type III or greater] in the throwing shoulder, conservative rehab in the long run is not the an advised route. This is why I have such great concern for Stroud and his medical team making the decision to avoid surgical stabilization....
Stroud - going into training camp - with shoulder issues!!!

Thought he was smaller than that. Thanks MW.

Marks is basically what James White was with the Pats.

This is certainly how most people see his role.

I agree with MW that we have to see him in action before we know what his capabilities are. But along side a passing game with CJ, I can envision a complementary running game designed around a scat back. Maybe 25 carries a game and 5+ catches. A three down back. Your RB2 would be a power back, workhorse.

Kyren Williams and Bucky Irving are both smaller than Woody and had similar college production/testing numbers.

LZ could’ve almost hit copy/paste on Irving’s writeup for Woody:

Irving:

Woody:

Like Nick always says, “Get the player in the building and lets see what he can do.” And like what DeMeco says, “If you were the man in college then be the man here.”

Don’t settle.

RBs have such short careers, I think you always need to bring guys in. Even if just late rounders.
I’m not disagreeing, just find it ironic we’ve got Mixon, Chubb, Ogunbowale, & Pierce. Pierce is going on year 4 right?
Most quote the 3 year life span, but most recent stats record closer to 2.5 years. Ogunbowale is 30 years old, Mixon will be 29 in 3 days, Chubb is 29, and Pierce is the baby of the group at 25 (although despite his age, he has not been effective any time recently). And Marks comes into the NFL pretty old at 24, to turn 25 later in the season. RB peak is usually quoted before 26 years old........if they even peak.

Interestingly enough, research indicates that the peak age for elite running back production is concentrated between the ages of 22 and 26. Only a small percentage (around 3.89%) of peak seasons since 2010 have occurred at age 29 or older.

In my opinion, there is lots of optimism..............that should be much more guarded than the evaluation review in this article.

We’re in the beginning stages so Doc lets us enjoy the start of training camp first. Let’s not be a spoiler and guess what every team is dealing with these type situations as well.

You must think Marks can become Devin Singletary.

I don't see, or compare him to anyone really. What I'd like to see is a player who has the footwork and patience behind his blockers, with the vision to see the crease and the decisiveness, explosion and acceleration through the hole and into the 2nd level.

He showed this at Mississippi State and USC. Mississippi State is in the SEC, so he faced the nations top collegiate talent.

And in his 5 collegiate years, he missed only one game. It would certainly be nice to see this durability with the Texans.

You could add 4 premium type players by drafting

Rd1
Rd2
Rd.2
Rd. 2 after using a rd 3 and rd 4 picks to move up into rd 2.

Caserio is loaded for bear and if the OL isn't fixed this year then you can expect Caserio to invest heavily in the ol next draft. I really like the center from Florida, Slaughter.
Some have Slaughter in round one but I have him top of round two at the moment. He is a stud. I would be okay with getting him and too offensive guards. I also want a defensive tackle that can shut down the middle.

Players report today. First practice tomorrow. Lets do this!

All these questions and more will be answered in due time. We will know a ton more in a week or two.
Yeah but who wants to wait? We can talk about it now.

Slaughter should be in the Texans range late in rd one then. I'm not sure that they are going to be able to find 3 starting IOL in one draft
