Even though OSU losing will probably hurt Texas in the long run I couldn't help but root for U of H. Congrats to them and their fans on the win.
I would like to address some U of H guy that called into 610 today stating that Texas, A and M, etc were scared to have Houston in the Big 12 for a few reasons. One he named was recruiting. I think he called out the fans too stating that we would not want U of H in the Big 12.
Maybe I should preface my response by saying that the Cougars have always been my 2nd favorite team so maybe I don't represent all UT fans. Personally I have always wanted U of H in the Big 12. I miss the Cougars of old and would love to see them be a national power in the Big 12. Honestly, the Big 12 needs it and Texas needs it.
Living in Austin and being a Horns fan it's hard to get real excited by expecting blowouts every week. Almost every week it's not if Texas will win but how they will look and how many points they will hang on some weak opponent. Most seasons it seems to always come down to 1 or 2 competitive games. It would be great if the Big 12 were like the SEC.
I wish the NCAA would relegate teams from major conferences like they do in European soccer. Basically if you finish in the bottom 2 or 4 you drop to a lower league and you promote the top teams from the lower league to the top league. Since teams like Baylor cannot compete they need to be relegated to some weak conference and bring up teams like TCU and Houston.
Baylor dropping would be good for their fans and fans of the major conference. They would have a chance to compete and we wouldn't have to look at them as a practice game every season. If they finish at the top of their lesser conference then they can come back up for a season to prove themselves the following year.
This would probably never happen however it would give schools like Houston mired in these lesser conferences a chance to play for something of real meaning (finishing at the top of your conference gets you promoted to a major conference, which in turn gives you a shot at the NC the following season).
