Okay, so I lied about not doing any more mock drafts this year. There are several rumors of teams wanting to move up. So, I thought I'd have a little fun & see what might be possible, but not very likely, if the Texans wanted to move down.
I'm assuming that Dareus, Miller, Peterson, Green, Quinn, Jones, Fairley & Amukamara have all been selected & the Texans are left with their choice of Aldon Smith, JJ Watt, Cameron Jordan or Kerrigan.
Kerrigan can be taken later in the 1st round & I'm not sold on taking Smith this high either. While Watt & Jordan can be legitimate NFL starters & would give the Texans a solid rotation player on the D'Line, it's my opinion that they can use them as leverage to trade down & pick up more picks. That is the purpose of this mock.
Trade #1 - New England really wants Cameron Jordan & makes a move when he drops to #11.
New England sends picks #17 (1st) & #33 (2nd) to Houston for the #11 (1st) & #73 (3rd) picks. That's 1530 points for 1475 points.
Trade #2 - Arizona didn't take a QB in the 1st & fearing a run on QB's in the 2nd, trades up for the first pick in the 2nd round.
Arizona sends picks #38 (2nd) & #69 (3rd) to Houston in exchange for pick #33 (2nd) & #138 (5th). That's 775 points for 617 points.
And our draft looks like this.
1) Marvin Austin (DT) Surprise, surprise. The Texans are known for taking the road less traveled & this time is no exception. Austin will play the NT position in Wades hybrid 3-4. Hes not your typical NT, but hes big, strong, quick & very athletic for a man his size.
2a) Bruce Carter (OLB) Hes not an elite OLB, but hes definitely solid & fills the weakside OLB position.
2b) Quinton Carter (FS/SS) Im sorry I keep repeating myself, but this is my guy.
3) Chris Carter (OLB) Outstanding pass rushing OLB.
4) Pernell McPhee (DE) Extremely strong, stout run defender, good lateral pursuit & reliable tackler.
5) No Pick.
6) Jeron Johnson (SS) This guy brings the wood. He hits like a ton of bricks, but has soft hands for the pick. Hes a ballhawking SS.
7a) DAundre Reed (OLB) Very athletic, but needs coaching up.
7b) Loyce Means (CB) This is my sleeper pick.
LOL! This mock should be called the Carter family reunion. I looked at trading down one more time in the first round to pick up another 3rd, but couldnt see any teams ahead of Chicago that might be interested in moving up. I felt I had to stay ahead of Chicago due to reports that they really like Austin & might have taken him before us. Okay, let me hear it.
