Have you considered VY converting to WR?

With all of the hoopla surrounding the draft, and while I am still leaning towards a draft down scenario, I haven't seen much speculation on the above mentioned position change. A LA Matt Jones.

Most of the people knocking VY are citing problems with being able to be a running QB in the NFL, throwing motion, no Zone Read offense in the league, and steep learning curve for QB's. The people that are Pro-VY counter with his freakish atheleticism, leadership, elusiveness, strength, size, and running ability in the open field.

So imagine for a minute that he did make the tranisition to WR. Easier to learn one route then everyone's routes. With his great speed, atheleticism, body size, stength, and running ability it would seem he could do well at this position.

Granted it is HIGHLY unlikely that he would EVER consider it, or many others for that matter, and understanding that it would not happen now because of draft position, but I still thought it would be fun to raise the question. But even if it never happens, you could have one hell of a gadget play with VY running a route after pitching back to a RB with an strong arm or end around to a "Randel-El" to catch a team buy suprise. If nothing else a fresh spin on a already well covered topic. :stirpot:

If we wanted to use the #1 to convert someone to WR, it would be Reggie Bush. He has the size, speed, and hands to be as successful as receivers like
Steve Smith or Santana Moss.

1. He doesn't want play anything but QB.
2. He is a Top 3 QB propect so he doesn't have too.

Why would we use the 1st overall pick on someone who we'd force to change positions? That would be like drafting Carr in 2002, then telling him we were converting him to FS...Not gonna happen...

Plus, Young has proven that he can pass the ball...He has good accuracy and good arm strength...Matt Jones had neither...

Wow! How about re-reading the thread, the title is "have you ever considered VY converting to WR."

It was known Matt Jones would be a WR before the draft. I am in no way saying that he would want to convert to that position. I was saying hypethetically down the road, what do people think????

I KNOW HE IS A TOP PICK IN THE DRAFT
I KNOW HE DOESN'T WANT TO PLAY ANYTHING BUT QB

sorry for trying to get anyone to talk about any freakin' thing other than VY and Bush, and who we should pick and why. I believe I used the words "imagine for a moment". Sorry no one you guys didn't pick up on that. Let's go back to arguing who should be selected by the Texans with the first pick! :brickwall

My bad bro...

Anyway, I don't know about Young at WR...The thing that set Matt Jones apart from other QB-turned-whatever else projects was that not only did he have an insane size/speed combination, but he also displayed that he had great hands...I'm not sure Young does, but I don't have any evidence as to whether he does or not...

After 2004 when there were doubts about Young's ability as an NFL quarterback, Scouts, Inc. or whatever the ESPN Insider draft authority considered Young a 1st round WR/RS prospect if not a QB. If you have ESPN Insider you can still pull the pre-2005 scouting report up. Given his performance as a passer this year (he did as well as a college passer can do), I think this tells volumes about his potential for the NFL.
You don't change a guy's position when he's a QB who is good enough to be a 1st rounder at the most athletically demanding position in the game AND has performed as an elite passer.

If someone decides to make VY a WR instead of a QB why not make Matt Leinart a RB since he did make the winning TD against Notre Dame?

Qbs get paid a whole lot more. he would be giving up a lot of money. Not to mention that Vince would be more of a pass catching TE than Wide Reciever. We already have Andre Johnson, with Bradford possibly leaving we need another deep threat (big play) reciever, (such as Terry Glenn.)

The only thing I know about that was that Nick Saban wanted Young as a WR at LSU because he saw Young catching the ball for fun during recruit evaluations.
