While the owners and players continue to fight over whether there's an agreement on the ongoing labor mess, I have a simple, more pressing question for you Texans fans.

Has Battle Red Day run its course?

What prompted this question was a tweet by @NickScurfield of the Texans which indicated the good guys will wear red jerseys and white pants for their Week 8 Battle Red Day game vs. the Jaguars.

First things first. Why Jacksonville - again?

Maybe it's because Bob McNair still thinks the Jaguars "hate it" even though the Jags beat the Texans in their last Battle Red meeting, and at least one ESPN reporter views the annual ritual as 'a little hokey.'

I doubt the Jags players, or any other players for that matter, quake in their Nike's when they see the Texans emerge from the tunnel in their red uniforms. It's not like the uniforms invoke super powers.

The Texans are 7-5 all-time while wearing their red jerseys (4-3 under Kubiak) and are on a three game losing streak wearing red (losses to the Jags and Titans in 2009 and Ravens in 2010).

If you're doing the math, there is only one official 'Battle Red Day' per season but the Texans have exercised the alternate uniform policy twice per season four times since the first Battle Red Day against the Panthers in 2003.

I don't think its run its course. Its a fun once a year tradition that the fans really get into, I see no harm in it. I need more Battle Red Day t-shirts too. :fingergun:
 
When bulls see red, they see fire and get fire in their belly. We're on the wrong end of the red. I'm sorry to say this, but when opposing teams and fans see the ketchup bottle uniforms, they are just left laughing.:mcnugget:
 
When has there ever been any indication that Battle Red Day had run it's course. I haven't met a single person that doesn't like it.
 
The red jerseys should be the home jerseys. The blue jerseys are drab. I don't even own a blue jersey, anymore.
 
I like the idea of Battle Red day, but it hasn't been used in any inspiring way. It offers no real value when you schedule it months in advance when facing the least significant team in our division.

You want to make Battle Red day special? Make it a tradition where our team's owner arbitrarily declares it when we play a must-win game or when facing a real rival. It's like a call to arms, or like hitting the turbo button. I could get into that.

I am on the opposite end. I love the blue jerseys. They are a very classy, serious look to them. I dislike the red jerseys. Looks kinda high school for me.

I kinda like that idea. On a Weds the week before, McNair takes out a full page in the chronicle and sells the next game as a must win and implores everyone to get up for Battle Red day!

I think the NFL requires teams to declare all of their home game uniform combinations prior to the start of the preseason.
 
Now that I think about it, there's a lot that could be done with a Battle Red call to arms signaled by McNair. Since it's an unscheduled alteration of the uniforms, the league would probably only allow it once a year, but that would make it more fun. Houston fans would be expected to show up in war paint, be rowdy and extra loud. Reliant would be a zoo. It would be used to create anxiety for visiting teams. The press would eat it up: "Are the Texans going to declare Battle Red for the game on Sunday?"

But no, we're going to use it as a gimmick against Jacksonville.

If it attracts attention, I think they'd be open to making one exception a year. It's the same reason we finally got interleague play in baseball.

Cool idea, I don't know for sure about having to notify the NFL of jersey combos. I seem to remember a game where they caught everyone off guard with the red jerseys.... It may have been something else though. :thinking:
 
I like the "battle red" days. I do think we should use it on other teams...not just Jacksonville most of the time. I sm not sure why this has been so in the past......
 
Seems like I can only remember 2 games where Battle Red had any real meaning.

1. The 2004 game against the Jags.
2. The 2007 game against the Broncos.

Every other time, it seemed like a lame marketing attempt.

This is exactly what I want to see happen. He could liken it to Sam Houston rallying troops after the Alamo. It would be a citywide unification every year.

Plus, this young franchise could use some tradition.

This "young???" franchise could use some WINS........something that must come BEFORE it can develop a tradition........a POSITIVE tradition at least. We already have a LOSING tradition.

Hi, I'm Hervoyel ("David" IRL) and I don't like Battle Red day. It's just one of a seemingly endless stream of contrived promotions designed to take our thoughts off of the fact that team has sucked for most of its existence. It embodies the worst qualities of our pre-fab expansion franchise and the sooner they quit making a big deal out of "Battle Red Day" and the three times as lame opening day "Liberty White" day the better.

We use it on the Jags over and over again because traditionally (meaning in our first 4-5 years) this is one of the few late season home games where we have any chance of pulling out a win. The Texans still think we have the best shot at winning that game so they try to pad their Battle Red Advantage Stat (TM). When they play someone who is actually tough on a consistent basis we get our ass handed to us (Ravens).

Must spread the rep. Stop trying to SELL us meaningless things. Try GIVING us something valuable...........Like WINS.
 
I like all 3 of the jersey's. Like a lot of you guys, I'm not that big on the rah-rah attempt. Go out there, win all of your home games and at least of your road games and you'll see more rah-rah in Houston than you have in nearly 20 years. Get your 1st playoff win in a red jersey then we can have a battle red day.:cowboy1:

Steel blue
Battle red

Seems like logic to me no sense in changing things what do u want a extra two games in white or blue ????

Texans wore the blue shirts in the Green Bay Sunday night game.

The game they surprised people with the red tops was the last game of the season against J-ville in 05. They had already done battle red day with the Colts early in that season.

On second thought, I believe it was the Titans game in 04, the 1st time they wore red twice in a season, that they surprised everyone.
