Hardest Decisions Yet

Just wanted to point out that the decisions Mr. McNair is making right now are the hardest, most crucial decisions of this franchise's history!

Take Vince?
Take Reggie?
Trade the pick?
New head coach?
David Carr's option?
Casserly's roll in the organization?
Who does he trust for advice?

I have faith!

Bush was the savior before last night. And now Young is the savior BECAUSE OF last night.

I think both of them will be less successful in the NFL. Bush showed that he IS stoppable against a fast defense , and the NFL has a pretty decent defense on every team because of the talent level in the NFL. Likewise, Young will not be scrambling every other down in the NFL or he'll get be on injured reserve real quick. It's just a whole new ballgame in the NFL.

The history of the NFL is littered with great college talent that didn't "translate" into the NFL game. Conversely, the NFL has seen "dull" players like Tom Brady come from the last rounds of the draft only to make a huge impact in the NFL.

McNair hopefully will stick to Carr (ignoring the hype) and trade the pick (ignoring the hype) to bolster a team that he feels really is only a few players away from seriously contending. In my eyes, those "few players" are offensive linemen and defensive help in the LB and DL positions.

Hopefully we get Joppru back, too.

A voice of reason in the midst of all of this insanity in other threads. I've never been a draft Bush fan and have supported Carr throughout this dismal season. I've also watched VY for the last two years and never really gave him serious consideration as I figured he wouldn't come out for the draft this year - problem solved - trade Bush for draft picks, no need to spend money on a new QB and all is well.

Now that VY is considering the draft, we have a bit of a challenge here. This is where I throw reason and probably good sense aside, eat some of my words from this past season, and say, "Draft Vince!" He isn't a one game phenomena nor is he the answer to all that is wrong with the Texans - but he is one heckuva player, a playmaker, a strong leader (and goodness knows we need one of those), a motivater, and a probably money maker for McNair. He would definitely bring the media and the fans to the games and possibly give Carr a little performance boost.

I don't know if one team can afford Carr and Young - but it sure would be nice if we could and still pick up the defensive and offensive players we need. If that is even remotely possible, McNair needs to fork over the $$ and watch this team go to the playoffs next year. An off-season dream.

Unless we go for conversion - play Young at receiver for a year while he learns the NFL and Carr gets his LAST chance.

I've never been down with the whole get rid of Carr thing but after reading some post about trading Carr plus and getting the pick for Bush and getting Young and Bush I started thing this was a great idea... Is this really a possiblity?

The decisions McNair makes will most certainly pave the way to our future as a franchise.

It wasn't too hard to make those decisions before the team began its first season, but now that we've seen four years of those "first decisions," I am curious to see how McNair reacts in terms of his offseason moves and draft day decisions.

Make no mistake...if little or nothing is done for the O line, this franchise is doomed. No more magic dust/musical chair O line crud. We need fresh blood in there.

Some of you raise a good point. VY had about eight minutes to throw and/or decide to run last night. With our OL, he would have more like 1/8 of a second! Seriously, the kid is a stud. I do think people also forget how tough Reggie ran last night as well as his blitz pick ups. Both kids are going to do extremely well in the NFL.

As for McNair, you are right. These next few months will decide the long-term fate of this franchise. I would be excited if Casserly wasn't helping make some of these decisions...

Casserly says we're keeping Carr, or we're at least NOT drafting Leinart...which you can interpret any number of ways (we're not drafting Leinart, but McNair would surely draft Vince Young? If so, Casserly wasn't entirely lying on that statement....).

Anyways, I think both Bush and Young are great college players but won't necessarily translate into great NFL players. The defenses are not only faster and stronger due to talent levels, but they're betetr coached and smarter than college defenses. Young can't rush it every other down and stay of injured rserve for very long in the NFL. And Bush showed that while he can outrun even the fastest of college defenses...when he gets corraled by a defense he can't really bust tackles like Shaun Alexander, Larry Johnson, Domanick Davis, and even LenDale White his teammate who does a greta job of losing tacklers.

Great college players, but in my opinion they won't be as productive in the NFL until a few years into their careers.

Carr can be just as exciting as Young. He has beaten people with his legs in almost every game--getting the much-needed first down on his own--and he just needs better coaching around him. That's my two cents.

Trade the PICK and stock up on o line and d line or LBs. BUILD A TEAM around the star players we already have (Carr, AJ, DD, Mathis).

Yeah, I am very anxious about McNair being more in charge than it appears he had been in the past.

But...when the company is suffering, the great leaders get in there and correct what went wrong. At least he's actively involved and not sitting in a dark office looking out over the city with his hands folded behind his back. With Reeves as consultant, he basically gets the outside opinion that is much needed rather than taking Casserly or others "inside" at their word.

he seems to be playing all of this very well thus far.

Coaching will be a HUGE factor in the direction we go. I started out a Kubiak guy...but this Ferentz person is growing on me.

It's definitely our most exciting offseason, yet. Leading up to our first season was pretty crazy, but this just takes the cake. New coaching changes, along with a no. 1 pick in what could be one of the biggest drafts in decades, is surely a recipe for offseason enjoyment.

I've been contemplating the value of our no. 1 pick as it relates to making deals. Surely there is an offer that is too good to pass up. Not sure what it could be, but I'm sure if we got offered a team's no. 1/2 for this draft and next year's, we'd have to think about it.

Both Bush and Young are great looking prospects, and I think they'll be great pro players. But neither will be the one man that can turn this franchise around towards a winning season. We've got way too many holes to fill than that. And this is an opportunity to perhaps fill some of those needs with such a valuable draft pick.
