Here to discuss our week one game.

Should prove to be interesting. Starting the year we have Willis McGahee, who needs no introduction. Stiff arms like no other, exceptional elusiveness and incredible power allow him to dance the perimeter or pound out the middle of the line. We have first year starter (heck, he will be starting his first game against you guys) JP Losman, and the excellent tandem of Moulds and Evans running routes with rookie Roscoe Parrish filling the slot. Moulds and Evens need no introduction I am sure, but Roscoe and JP might. In minicamp many players and coaches were astonished my Parrish's explosive speed, clean smooth seperation, effortless redirects, soft hands and great field vision for YAC. JP has been in the film rooms and weight room since last season ended. He is a fixture there, being told by coaches and trainers that he needs to go home. Players were surprized at his command of the huddle, defensive reads and smart changeups, and calling out the coaches in minicamp for an error they made from the playbook.

Defense is largely unchanged. While I do fear aging our average age on D is only 27, not too shabby. Considering we are coming off last season in second overall defense, I think we are set.

It appears as if you picked up some nice depth at receiver, offensive line, defensive back, and linebacker. Defensive end Travis Johnson should be a great pickup for you guys... I suspect he will become one of the elite linemen in the league. Carr appeared to get over the curse of 1 game winners and won a few consecutively (3 pairs of games if I am not mistaken). Like I said last year, I think Carr is ready to explode, and look for him to do great things as well. Any other interesting moves this year?

I think you guys will have some problems with our secondary. I suspect our defensive line might have some issue with your offensive line, but it is a terribly close matchup. The battle in the trenches really hinges on how Edwards fills in for Big Pat. I am not looking for any stellar numbers on either side of the ball for either team. JP needs to find a groove, and he will be a bit rough in this first game I suspect. The Texans corners are fantastic, and coupled with Moulds and Evans with a rookie QB should provide some excitement for you guys, as I do suspect JP will make some rookie mistakes, and Moulds and Evans might be able to pull off some stunning plays.

I look for a close game, and I am excited our first is with the Texans. I came by here last year at the end of the season to offer my best wishes to you, and again I am going to extend the olive branch. I was just interested in your take of our chance first meeting next year.

Have you seen our offensive line play? They seem to take pride in getting beat by a four man rush.

Good post though. Thanks for the Bills insight, and sorry about Everett. :ouch:

It's awfully early to start diagnosing the game. But I think the following will be some key matchups:

Antwan Peek vs. New Left Tackle

Peek is a project of ours that will be getting his first chance to start this year at the ROLB position. He is an explosive pass-rusher but needs to show that he can be an all-around player...If your new LT lacks foot speed expect that Losman will get a rough welcome to the NFL. On the other side we'll hope to see second year LOLB Jason Babin show that he can get to the quarterback more consistently.

CBs vs. Losman

Both Dunta Robinson and our new CB Phillip Buchannon have shown that they can make opponent QBs pay for errant throws. Depending on the pass rush (see above) these guys can make Losman pay if he gets 'rattled.'

OL vs. Bills DL & blitz

The OL is the biggest question on the team this season. The line had a poor year last year, particularly in pass protection. As of yet no new personnel has been brought in at the OL, instead the staff is hoping that a year together, scheme changes, and the further development of young players LG Pitts and LT Wand will be the answer.

ILBs vs. Bills Running Game

We've replaced both ILB positons with new starters Morlon Greenwood and Kailee Wong (moved from ROLB.) Their success in stopping McGahee and Henry (for now) on 1st downs will establish the tone on 2nd and 3rd downs. ROLB Peek will also need to show that he can perform against the Bills' strong rushing attack.

Never too early to start diagnosing what should be a good game. If the Texans new special teams duo can keep up with the Bills' stellar return game it should be close. Buffalo was stampeding inferior talent late last year but Pittsburgh let them know they weren't quite an upper echelon team. I'm glad we get Buffalo early because Losman will be much more error prone. Either that or he'll rely too much on his athleticism when he has an avenue. I suspect this will be a matchup of two teams on the rise wanting to make an early statement. Look for the Texans to show a lot of 7-8 man fronts and Dunta blitzes to slow down McGahee and rattle Losman. Ball control will be crucial, and this game should be won in the trenches. I can't foresee a lot of big plays down the field. This will be one of the better week 1 games unfortunately could come down to Brown vs. Lindell. :soldier:

Someone tell me if I'm wrong, but in all the saved games I have...Peek is lining up opposite the Right Tackle. Wong was on the Left Tackle.

And for the Bills game, I expect Capers to issue blitz city on Losman. Keep applying pressure on the "rookie" quarterback, and a bad throw is bound to happen.

You are right, but this season Peek will be taking over Wong's position that is why he stated it that way. We should beat them if we can handle their defense, because their offense is just as inept as ours.

My concern is filling big Pat's shoes. Seems to me like we might have some issues with the pass rush. That is why I say, it should be close.

I'm not an a-hole troller, I am a football fan who is looking for realistic, insightful conversation... but thanks anyways :homer:

I concur. He might get a bit trigger happy or rely too much on his legs. I think if he stays in the backfield and uses his mobility things should happen. However I am terribly concerned about his getting flustered and jumping the gun on the rush. I am quite sure he will be blitzed heavily (heck, I would cover the guy heavily with blitz packages just for the reasons I mentioned above), and I personally will be terribly interested in seeing how he deals with it.

Peek plays the weak side, or Right defensive side, against the Left Offensive Tackle. Babin was over the Right Tackle all year last year at the strong-side lb spot.

There were a couple games in the middle of the season when they had Peek sub in for Babin and left Wong in at ROLB in some situations.

yeah, the biggest question for the Bills will be Losman. first start in the nfl. i'm thinking he'll probably struggle this game, but its got to be done. i'm sure the texans will put alot of pressure on him and he'll probably have a bad game. he'll probably improve throughout the season, but Bills fans have to be patient. its not gonna be another rothlisburger situation, where a rook QB comes in and plays alright. i know he's not a rookie, but he is starting his first game and he came out of college a little raw. should be interesting to see how he progresses. he does seem pretty tough for a QB, which is good.

as for the texans, the Oline will be the bigest question starting the season. they should improve this year, but one just never knows. also, keep an eye out on guys like peek, buchanon, and greenwood. all new starters. should be a faster defense, but still so early to really get a feel for them.

not being biased or anything, but i think the texans win. i won't give a score, but i think losman, starting his first game, will struggle.

also one last thing, keep an out out if Dunta Robinson and Antwan Peek blitz hard off the weak side. that could be a deadly combination.
