Goodbye Sunday Night ESPN NFL Primetime

More changes for 2006...
Mike McCarley, vice president of communications and marketing for NBC, said, “They (NFL) came to us with a flexible scheduling idea. Sunday night was the one night that made sense for us.” Plans are for the network to begin with a 7 p.m. pre-game show followed by an 8:15 kickoff.

Another plus for NBC is that no one, including ESPN, will be able to air any NFL highlights until midnight or after on Sunday. “So people will be tuning into NBC for highlights,” said McCarley.

Wow it's going to be strange to tune into SportsCenter and not see any highlights. This should definately be a big boost to NBC.

What?! NBC is going to stop showing Lacrosse championships, Purina Dogshow, Poker?!!! What am I going to do now?!! Hehe...

Maybe they will get the ever popular Merlin Olson to be top dog. I liked Merlin as a player. But, he lacks a little enthusiasm as a commentator.

It seems as though NFL Primetime is the only thing affected. It usually comes on before midnight and goes into the next day our time (CST). I believe the verbage says that the news can show breif hi-lights but not extended hi-lights.
I don't think it's gonna affect us that much cuz the rule says that a hi-lite show cannot start untill mid-night in EST. We may have to wait 30-40 min tops to watch Boomer. I'll watch one show and DVR the other.

Can someone answer this though. Does the Hi-Light ban include the NFL Network?

Also, did anyone read into the "Flexible Schedule" stuff.
Does this mean that NBC will be able to pick/choose who plays on Sun night as of week 6?
If so that's kinda cool. No more games in week 14 with a 3 win team vs. a 2 win team.

That was the entire reason for the reshuffling of the game from Monday night to Sunday night. It is far easier to tell ticket holders, "Your game has been moved from noon to 7pm" than to say "Your game has been moved from Sunday noon to Monday night".
