GBN Two Round Mock

here you guys & gals go http://www.gbnreport.com/2005projection.htm this is a free site visit often they really stay on top of things & have a lot of useful information. Underclassman are included in this 2 Rd. Mock (these are only prospects that have indicated interest in various sources of investigating what their stock would be if they declared for the 2005 draft, the actual deadline is still a couple months away) to give a pretty interesting rough draft of teams needs with possible available prospects.

with all the crying about the Texans offensive woes they have us selecting the top tackle in the draft Alex Barron (i don't think he'll still be available) and passing on Antrell Rolle (i'd be pissed). Then in the second round underclassman Orien Harris DT Miami (that would be cool). Overall this would be a great start to the draft for the Texans & demonstrates if underclassman are projected the 2005 draft will be another great year for NFL teams.

Well with the way they have other things working, I would much rather see them go Rolle in the 1st and Baas in the 2nd to play center.

If the draft feel for the texans in that manner i would be pretty excited..My choices would be rolle, spears, and then Barron, but would have zero issue with any of them. need to learn a little more on Harris in the 2nd but even the texans drafted say spear in the 1st i still would not complian about a 2nd DLman even one round away.

I just hope that Derrick Johnson and Cedric Benson don't end up on one of our AFC South rivals' teams.

Couldnt you imagine Tennessee with Bulluck and DJ... :thud:

I can't see us passing Rolle if he fell to us. Dunta, Rolle and Glenn would make a serious trio to cover the Manning boys or any team with a good 3 wr set. Under this scenario, Winston Justice looks good in the second round if we are going to address the LT.

Would you go for a LT at this point instead of a potential center like Baas--someone 326lbs that "needs to add some size for his frame" and supposedly has a mean streak?

By the way, how long do centers usually take to develop? San Diego is starting a rookie 3rd rounder and he is doing pretty well.

I would much rather have Baas. Justice was suspended the entire season for pleading to misdemeanor charges. He flashed a fake gun at someone during a dispute.

Breakdown of draft positions of starting NFL LTs:
1st Round = 16
2nd Round = 4
3rd Round = 4
2nd Day = 3
FAs = 5

Breakdown of draft positions of starting NFL Centers:
1st Round = 2
2nd Round = 6
3rd Round = 7
2nd Day = 10
FAs = 7

Looking at these numbers, I can infer that the NFL believes Left Tackles are born, not made. And centers are made, not born. If you think there is a guy that can play LT, you have to take him over the center.

I know it's been said before, but drafting tackles is the safest pick a team can make in the 1st round. Of the past 28 Tackles taken in the 1st:

Starting LT's = 12
Starting at another position = 8
Injured = 3
Reserves or out of league = 5

If there's one position the NFL knows how to scout, it's tackle. I want the Texans to continue to draft defensive players because I'm very concerned about their veteran defenders lack of production this season. It's difficult for me to believe that players in their late 20's & 30's will turn it around and be better next season and seasons to come. But, I'm more concerned about David Carr's ability to withstand the punishment he's receiving. How long before the concussions start? It's all downhill from there. I can't see the Texans being able to bring in a vet LT because they're rarely on the market and extremly expensive when they are. If they can find a legit Division 1-A left tackle in this draft, they have to take him. No more projects, please.

I think you probably have two left tackles to choose from in the first round if D'Brickashaw comes out. Alex Barron seems like he is the better choice of the two because he is bigger and stronger. D'Brick looks very small compared to NFL left tackles. If Barron fell to us I really wonder if we would pass him up.

Drafting defense in the first round is becoming less likely with this current offensive funk.

hey Lucky
where can I find a breakdown like that? or is that out of your head

also what is the average contract for a top 15 LT?
I would hate to get stuck with a tackle with a huge contract, when the kid from Midland-Lee is coming out next year
I think that Eric is as good if not better than anyone coming out this year
without that injury, he would be a top five pick and Barron and D'Brickashaw would be way down the list
but I do like the name "D'Brickashaw"
maybe if the kid from Syracuse had a catchy name, we could look at him
"Adam Terry" sounds so plain
how about "SirDon" Terry or "Keyunta" Terry

Loper is better than Ferguson and Barron, he just isn't a media star

does anyone remember when the coaching staff introduced Big Dan to the team before the season started? how often does that happen?

and who brought that to everyones attention that Loper was introduced? yep...that was me...mad props, very mad props

i'm about to burn one for you right now
hail to thee...

antrel rolle? Lt?

dont let the ranking of our pass defense fool you. the reason its so bad is the lack of a pass rush.

but you guys insist on a cb in the first or a safety like davis?

we just got robinson. glenn has a few more years to go. marcus coleman just signed an extension and i think the texans are pleased with earl and the progress hes made. i think a pick in the first or second round on a db is a bit wasted. we have more important needs. (though i do see a need to upgrade faggins, i just dont want them useing a more important pick to do it.)

we do need help defensivley ,and i think the texans will address the front 7. look for a de or a mlb. someone who can improve our run defense and our pass rush. as things stand now our secondary is not our most pressing need.

as far as a Lt like barron. great player nodoubt but our need is the interior line...unless you guys are in favor of moving wand over to guard or center (yeah right).

(draft)

1. de (walker's future replacement and a revolving starter to keep the line fresh)
2. ilb (cya foreman)
3. wr (bradfords out)
3. cb (nickle package db to replace faggins...and maybe someone to groom till glenn departs)

(free agency)

1. center (mckinneys gotta go)
2. tight end?
3. an unheralded guard or 2 much like spears (tackle) was when we got him (hopefully the result is better.)

not to mention if we get a center to replace mckinney he serves as "quality" depth at all 3 interior spots.

maybe its a bit to early for all of this draft talk. i was kinda wanting some opinions...

and i will freely say i have no idea who will be available in free agency. needless to say that has a huge impact on who we draft

The draft info came from researching drafthistory.com. The status of the players came from NFL.com.

The franchise tag for o-linemen (average salary of the top 5) was about $7 million.

The transition tag for o-linemen (average salary of the top 10) was about $6 million.

I don't think a team can go into a draft and have decisions influenced by what player may be in the draft the following year. They have to take the best player for their team now.

It's supposed to be a weak crop of TE's in the draft this year. That being said, I think Indy will let Marcus Pollard go. So there's one FA tight end, more than likely.

I am done with O-linemen in FA. Draft a OL high this year. If you think the weakness is inside then maybe someone like David Baas (C/G). http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/playerprofiles/og/davidbaas.html
I have no idea what we are going to do about LT, but it's a problem.

The weak link on the DL is Walker, but he has a large contract. :thud: Marcus Spears seems like a great pick, but then we would pretty much just eat the Walker contract.

Too many problems. If we can trade down, get extra picks, and still get who we want, then I'm all for it.

thanks for the resources, man

as far as drafting philosophy goes, that was just me speaking as a fan
Loper is still better than Ferguson or Barron

if we drafted Dylan Gandy on DayTwo after getting Baas DayOne we could leave David at guard... :hmmm:

Walker is definitely not playing up to his contract, BUT he is exactly the kind of player that I can see responding very well to being challenged for his position by a rookie.

Ahmad is staying via his lips to his phone through a cell phone connection to me this past tuesday, but word has already gotten around about it..

Any other questions about who's thinking of declaring or anything else draft related let me know

I'm surprised that he's just disappeared off the GBN 2 round draft. I thought Brooks was projected as a possible top 10 pick and that it's not uncommon for players who are in this position to change their minds and come out. Just a thought.

thats a good point Mistril48, possible oversight since he's still rated as the 13th overall best prospect regardless of team needs. the only thing holding him back evidently is Derrick Johnson the #1 rated linebacker in the draft. the money differential is sizeable between a top 10 pick & a top 20 pick, also Chowder is seriously considering coming out early.

Not to mention the fact that Glenn is gettin up there in years , I dont see passing Rolle either.
