Well, let' review what this man has done for us thus far.

We have the best offense we have ever had, by far. Our defense isn't as good as years have been in the past, but we have more young guys with alot of potential.

He has brought us a style of practice that encourages leadership, endurance, and knowledge of the system. He challenges people every day. The fact that he sets up drills that encourages the players to pay attention and learn is in itself a big step to turning this team into a group of winners.

I thought this was the best quote yet:

(on his developing relationship with head coach Gary Kubiak) “I don’t know if Gary needs a lot of help. He knows exactly what he wants to do. If I can help him in any little way I want to help him, but trust me, Gary knows what he’s doing.”
 
I for one think Kubiak will do an exceptional job. First job as the MAN, and he's not about to get embarrassed. He has a winning attitude and comes from a winning team, so those skills don't stay in Denver when he left.

The offense will be better than average this season, more passing to open up the run, and DD if healty will get another 1,000 yds. And the D, the move to a 4-3 will finally pressure the QB, which in return will give the guys in the backfield a better shot at coverage.

This is the season that makes Houston a team that others will HAVE to strap thier helmets on when they play. The Texans were in alot of games last year, losing a few right at the end, in my opinion, seems like they tanked them for the #1 pick. Well if so, good, now we gotta make sure that the pick pays off.

2 years ago, they won 7 games, no reason not to think that 6 or 7 wins this season is not in reach....6 and I am happy, any more, Kubiak deserves to be mentioned for coach of the year.

I think that we shall see what he is goig to be like as a head coach when he is faced with some adversity, like things not going the way he likes, or having to get rid of the last of the dead weight from the first 4 years that maybe he does not want to.
I am excited to see where he is going to take this team.

I see kubiak one day being one of the top nfl coaches. I have a feeling that hes going to make a few unknown players into something big, maybe Chris Taylor is one of them. :redtowel:
 
First things first, let's make Carr into a household name.. And by God if we have a setback and only win just 1 game, God, please make it be Dallas !!
 
Regarding our offense:

Right now, we have the potential to be the best we've ever been (and I'm confident that they will, in fact, play out). What I don't want, though, is to assume such improvement on the offensive side of the ball as to become a bit unrealistic. The Texans goals on offense should be to improve by about 65-80 yards a game in total yards and by about 5 points a game. That's a solid bump under any measure. Eliminate turnovers, sacks and penalties and we'll also help our defense by maintaining drives longer and eating up clock.

I really like our chances of at least maintaining drives longer. That's where we'll probably show our greatest improvement. Cross fingers.

Not with Shanahan they wont, however that will happen if Plummer tears his ACL, and Cutler turns into Ryan Leaf
 
I see Kubes as a Jeff Fisher type of guy. Respected by team and fans as well as other teams. I hope he is around just as long.

Isn't that putting the cart before the horse? Annointing the offense the best we have had and the defense not as good as our best before even one pre-season game is nothing but an educated guess. I don't think we can possibly know until the games have been played.

I agree. I think we fans are on a learning curve too - we don't know much of anything yet, but we can see the process.

But we should watch the process unfold. Enjoy watching the front office build the team through acquisitions. Enjoy watching how the coaches reclaim players that have been held back, or watching them make stars into superstars. Watch how they build a winning attitude. It isn't about instant success - it's about the process right now.

It can be very exciting watching a team built to a success. As I've said before, I was a Spurs season ticket holder from their 20 win seasons to their 60 win seasons before I moved to Houston. Living through the failure and watching the turn around makes the championships pretty sweet.

I knew one of the Spurs VPs. I went to San Antonio for a game the season after the Spurs had won their second championship. He came over to talk to us, and he had on his second championship ring. I asked about it, and he said, "yeah, it's nice but we need one more. I have three kids and need to leave one to each of them".

Everybody would have laughed at such a comment in the late 80s early 90s. The next year he got his third ring.

Yeah, that's true.

But the fun of being a fan is that you try to predict what will happen..especially if you nail it.

I happen to think that Kubiak is a lot like Belichick. Both guys are very reserved and they think very hard before making statements on anything. They both under-dress to the point that they look like just an average guy out on the streets. They are both relentless in their work ethic, and they just don't care to make waves with their ego like Herm Edwards, Schotenheimer, Parcells, and other ego-trippers who are clowns when they camera is on.

Does that make him an instant success? I dunno...

But I think I see a lot of the same traits in Kubiak that I see in a guy like Belichick, and that gives me courage to say that I think he'll be a pretty good coach.

Like I've said, this guy could easily be the biggest head coaching steal of the entire NFL. But well see, huh?

I agree with you on this. I live with a die hard cowboy fan. He thinks the Texans are and I quote "****". I can always go back and say that they still have not beat the Texans. Bye the way I was at that game. Got tickets the day of the game. The best $300 I ever spent. I have faith the gary will get this team going in the right direction. I also know that we can turn things around in a hurry. Lots of teams have terrible years and within two years make the playoffs. The panthers won only couple games then they drafted (with the number two pick) a player by the name of Peppers. We all know waht happened then. Yep two years later they lost in the super bowl. Anyone remeber nipplegate?:drool: (Janet Jackson)

Out of curiosity what of our past defenses do you think is better than what we currently have? I remember our earlier years we had a pretty good D, but I think our current one will end up being better than any of our past ones, and I definitely expect our offense to be better than ever before, but that isn't saying a whole lot.

Well the linebackers were better, our cornerbacks were also better. We had more and better leaders.

The most improved part of our defense this year will be the fact that they aren't on the field for the entire game. Any offense at all would be an upgrade, but this one specializes in long sustained drives which should keep our defense rested and aggressive.

However long ago it was when we were in the process of acquiring Kubiak I was watching the geniuses on ESPN, can’t remember what show, but they said Kubiak was not coming to Houston. I was freakin devastated until Kubiak actually took the job. My best friend is from Denver originally so I’d learned many good things about Kub from a devote Bronco fan. It’s his first Head Coaching opportunity but he was my favorite choice by far. And I’m just so glad old Capers is gone… That was too much.

Kristie Rieken, of the Associated Press, reports Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak admonished DL Travis Johnson in front of the entire team as the player who had the most work to do before the team's monthlong break before training camp. The tactic appears to have worked, as Johnson showed up to training camp 20 pounds lighter and with newfound enthusiasm. Johnson said, "I had to step up to the challenge. I think I'm a lot better when my back is against the wall. When somebody challenges me and tells me I can't do something, that's when I step up and do it." The team hopes to see improvement from Johnson in the upcoming season as they switch back to a 4-3 defense.

That's a sad testimony to high pick like TJ.

"It wasn't hard because to much is given much is expected," Johnson said. "The money they give you, they kind of expect you to put that effort forth and lose that weight when they ask you to."

"I feel a lot better," he said. "My back doesn't hurt. It was tough last year because I had to put the weight on to play that defense. Now I'm starting to feel good."

Is this the first mention of this problem..........an excuse or a legitimate contributing factor??? If the latter, why have so many MB observers noted slow moving/poor hustle?
